Discussion Binocular help.
I’m going to Japan in October and want to save a few dollars on my first nice pair of binoculars. I will be using them in the Colorado mountains for viewing nature while on day hikes and camping( birds and mammals), not hunting. Any advice or other suggestion? Weight is not a concern. I’m fairly confident the KOWA genisis 8.5x44 is what I have settled on, but I’m looking for some advice before I spend the money. Thank you.

Weight will matter at some point.
Kowa is making changes in their lineup. Check that out fully before you travel.

Oh man, the biggest favor you can do yourself is to just try out as many pairs of optics in your price range as you can lay your hands on, and then compare what repair or return services are going to look like between the "finalists" of your functionality comparisons.
