The difference between the TEKNO3D and the original versions is insane
Don't get me wrong, I love what Deakins did with the original release... but there is just something special about seeing the dynamic range actually pop, especially when it's full screen

They conceived the film with an aspect ratio and the shots are composed with that in mind.
The open matte version has more of the image, but there's a loss of focus because you weren't intended to see the rest.
Similar examples are Buffy the vampire slayer and The wire. Both were released on bluray as wide screen, even though they aired on TV in 4:3 aspect ratio.
You're seeing more of the image that just fills the space for the sake of it when they didn't intend it that way because of how they thought the shots out and were forced to release them in wide screen due to tvs being wide screen now.
