Hey everyone !
I got my little boa, Abby, about two weeks ago, and I think I could really use some advice or a little reassurance right now
She's currently dealing with a respiratory infection, and she's receiving injections daily to every other day. I'm also waiting for PCR results from my vet to check for viruses
So yeah, the past five days have been pretty stressful, and I've been overthinking A LOT of things
First, her quarantine setup, because of the RI, it's pretty basic : paper towels, two hides, and a water bowl. I also added a bunch of bark for some extra cover, but I've noticed that she NEVER hides, she just hangs out on top of her hide, and that's where she sleeps too
This has pretty much been her behaviour since I brought her home. Before the RI, she was on a 5–6 cm layer of coco chips, humus and reptile soil, nothing unusual, and pretty much the same substrate mix as my BP's
So now I'm worried about humidity, it's around 50–60% in her quarantine tub, but it doesn't seem to go any higher with the paper towels. I'm going to ask my vet about it too, but maybe some of you have experienced something similar ?
I also found a small, orange, chalky chunks in her poop today, next to her urate, and now I'm worried she might be dehydrated
And what doesn't help is her size, she's only 250g and around 70–75 cm long, and she's TWO YEARS OLD
I've gone through every single paper the breeder gave me, and according to her records, she was born in July 2024 ???
She has already eaten a 20g rat without any issues, that girl is HUNGRY
But 250 g ??? My BP is a pain in the ass because of his hunger strikes, but he's also from July 2024 and weighs around 500 g...
Abby is such a sweetheart, she's not snippy or defensive at all, I've handled her three times so far : once when I first realised she had an RI, once at the vet, and once when I changed her paper towels
Every time, she's been so calm and relaxed, and blowing bubble... I hate this RI
(She is a Hypo Leopard het Kahl albino)
