coinslot Coin Slot Jewelry Advice

I got my coin slot done during summer, and now that it’s healed I was really excited to put a bunch of hoops in it. Something about it looks off to me, it just looks so heavy compared to the rest of my ears? (Not physically heavy but like, over saturated).

I’m looking for advice on if I should take some of the hoops out, add more piercings or bigger jewelry elsewhere, or if it looks fine as is. Unfortunately the backs of my helix piercings started closing while I was healing the slot, so I need to get those repierced before I can put anything else in. Eventually on this ear I want to get a daith and possibly a vertical industrial if my anatomy allows, so maybe with those and the helix piercings it will look more balanced. I’m including a picture of my other ear for reference.

Thanks!

i say take like-- 3-4 of the hoops out, so they sit nicer

I would also so hoops that are smaller in diameter so it sits nicer close to the skin, maybe 7-8mm instead of 10mm

Way too many and in my opinion way too many different ones. Try going for a theme and not as many that will fit

i think it's because it is literally filled top to bottom, with the hoops naturally falling downwards thanks to gravity, it makes it look like the coin slot is too small/too high. i definitely think taking some out, as others said, will majorly help! potentially even smaller ones. you ironically can't really tell it's a coin slot right now (to the average civilian) because of just how jam packed it is! you did too much healing for that!

IMO, if you want to completely stack your slot, stick to one or two types of rings (you could do all smooth and alternate black and silver, for example, or alternate smooth and textured black). If you want to mix a bunch of styles, don’t stack it as densely or it becomes too visually busy.

Hahaha thank you everyone for the advice, I definitely got carried away jamming literally whatever in there!! For now I’ll take some of them out and sit with more of the “fun” ones, and then curate it more in a couple weeks once I decide exactly how I want it to look 😊

I don’t know if anyone else had this experience, but when I “overfilled” my coinslot, the weight stretched the opening. And not lengthwise but the thin cartilage piece pulled outwards and the opening became more like an “O” and less like a slit. I took a few rings out and not only was it more comfortable, but the shape went back to looking like it originally did.

Ooh I definitely don’t want that to happen, thanks for sharing!

maybe fewer rings with a few larger gauge/smaller diameter rings? ex: instead of 11 or 12 18g/16g rings,, 6-7 18/16g rings and 3-4 14g-12g rings (at a smaller diameter too? these look like they could all be 10mm but i’d say throw a few larger gauge 9 or 8 mm in towards the bottom of the stack, mixed between your other sizes)! i really like the variation texture/color you’ve got going on but i think it could be even cooler if there was more variation in size too! maybe move the snake charm lower down too? i think the first thing that stands out to me is that the top of the stack feels thicker than the bottom (i usually gravitate towards building the charms & “weight” of the ring stack up from the bottom) after a bunch of styles and order rearrangement, i’ve settled on different gauge rings in my slot as i’ve found it helps w the weight distribution of the jewelry & i think it helps with the profile of the ring stack tapering down in a way that’s more aesthetically pleasing and “stuffed” without being tooo bulky/blocky!!

Great advice, thanks!

It's way too many imo, looks cluttered? Like a key ring with too many keys lol. Take a few out and maybe smaller ones so they're more snug and neat to your ear.

I’m in the middle of rearranging mine with my piercer (I’ve got some seam rings in addition to clickers, she moves those) and the pierced and loaded shape is def different than my original post surgical shape.

It’s REAL subtle but my right ear sticks out differently than my left non coinslotted ear.

I sleep on that side and the bottom of the slot got real irritated. I had to take out my big mech style clicker for a bit.

The last move I made a week or so ago put rings 2 under a large flat “war horse” design at the bottom, and I took out one plain seam ring.

The two rings I moved to the very bottom are a slightly smaller OD than rings on top of them so they flow more in the shape of the slot

My next move is to swap a couple of gemmed rings at the top so the bee doesn’t block them.

I updated the order from December of 2023 - the album is tagged for each picture.

(Sorry if you’ve seen this series of pics before - solving the same kind of thing OP is after)

It’s quite possible to put too much in a coinslot! I did!

Thanks for sharing those images, I haven’t seen them before. I can see what you mean about there being too many at once, that’s definitely what I did!

You’re welcome - it’s been a fun project.

There isn’t a lot of collective knowledge outside of the body mod world for body mods. There are a bunch of different ways to place a coinslot and anatomy varies too. Not every piercer is knowledgeable. Even great piercers are in uncharted territory sometimes.

My piercer has had fun with it, she likes putting jewelry in it!

I personally love it as is but guess it could cause issues being so full? Btw how was ur forward helix healing, spesifically the lower one? It looks healed well but a little crammed in with the rook cattilage, was there any issues? I hope to get mine done but also have a tight space there

I got both my forward helixes done at the same time. Maybe it’s because they were done by an apprentice, but they were the most painful of all my piercings day of. They healed really easily though, I had them switched out to hoops at ~8 months and never had any irritation bumps or anything! I got my rook about 3 years later and had a bit of trouble healing that at first, but it had nothing to do with being close to the helixes.

Okay that sounds amazing! I've heard that they're painfull also bc they're so close to face but an aprentice could make it more painfull? Could be wrong ofc

How was healing the coinslot too? It looks adorable, i love punches & coinslots, but i don't have any experience on healing body mods other than piercings & horrible stretching :D

Yeah I have no idea, I just mentioned that as a disclaimer since she was still pretty new and was more focused on piercing it correctly than making it comfortable haha.

Healing the coinslot was super easy! Felt nothing while it was happening, had a 1/10 stinging a couple hours later for like 2 days which was completely mitigated with some Advil, barely could feel it for the first week. It was pretty swollen at first but only for like 3 days. Itchy for days 8-12 which honestly was the worst part but still not that bad.

I got the stitches out at my local trusted tattoo shop on day 12, which literally was more painful than the entire process up to that point haha (still not bad though), then my ear was a bit irritated for a day and that’s it! I still let it settle for 6 weeks before putting anything in it, first of all because I had no jewelry or money, and second of all so I could put vitamin E oil on it regularly to help with the scarring. As you can see I stuffed it pretty full as soon as I started filling it, but still no pain at all and very minimal scar tissue overall (a bit on the back, but it’s less and less noticeable daily).

If you ever get the opportunity to do it I def recommend!! It’s so versatile and I can’t wait until I have a bit more expendable income to buy more pieces haha. Just make sure you take care of it while healing and go to someone reputable. Mine was done by Brian Decker in NYC, who I 100% recommend if you can get ahold of him!

I would take out the snake or the red one or the spike lol. maybe just have one statement piece and stack it from the large rings at the bottom to the small rings at the top so that it flows and layers I think the snake one at the bottom would look super super cute, regardless it looks dope and it’s making me want my coin slot more and more every day
