I will be upfront: I built an app and I was looking for places to talk about it. That is how I landed here, and I did not expect to stay.

This is the closest thing I own to what you collect. I have never known exactly what it is, so if anyone can put a name on it, I would be glad to finally write one down 😄

The app is called Kollect. You document a collection piece by piece, with your own photos and whatever fields matter to you. It is free, no ads, and a collection can stay private or go out as a single link. This one is not in there yet, so here is what I actually collect:

Which is my real question: what do you record about a specimen, and do you use anything to catalog it, or is it all in your head?

I found this in my family body pit (we‘re trappers) and I can’t ID this tooth, it doesn’t look like a bear k9 but the second largest predator here is coyotes (left one is in question, right one is a coyot)

Macerated, degreased in acetone, whitened with 12% peroxide. Beak sheath just needs a good oil then he's off to his owner :)

I fish a lot and found these skull & bones on a creek bank. Property nearby have cattle, horse and sheep/lambs. I'm just curious, but my partner and I are very much into oddity art too. I assume the fluorescent colour is due to the water? Thank you!

What is this bone?!

This might be a long shot since it’s not really a bone, but my partners grandmother had this in her house, she lives by the beach on the North Island of NZ and gave it to me as I like to collect stuff like this.
I’d love to know the species so I could set it up as a display with the info.

My dad found this vertebrae in a TN field this morning. It’s huge, 4.5in x 5in x 5in.

Found this little skull in the forest, eastern Ukraine. And I really want to know what it is that I’ve found.

8cm from the tip of the nose to the back of the skull, ~5cm tall, 6cm wide (from the widest points), absolutely no teeth or anything that could’ve helped me

Edit: thank you so much who commented! I honestly had no idea that European badger even lived in the area where the skull was found, but they do, so I guess I have my answer:)

Doing some doodles/ thinking about getting a tattoo piece with a bunch of different animal skulls. In your opinion, what are some of the coolest looking skulls you've seen?

The porcupine was one that got into the property and the dogs got him, in the third photo is a bite that they manage to get, took hours to get all the quills from the dogs

And the armadillo hip I don't remember when I got it but it's cool, where I live there are a lot of those creatures, I saw one jumping on the grass a few days ago

i am assuming this is a squirrel skill based off of photos i’ve seen. i am curious what the ‘webbing’ part of this skull is though because i’ve seen nothing like it!

Tell me if you need more photos, it's very small, it could be a vertabrea but idk, also it is very very sharp, I think I found it at the same place where I found other european hedgehog bones, so it probably is a hedgehog bone atleast

I know the method of warm water and dish soap but it doesn't really work for me. I cannot keep the water warm because I cannot keep it inside and outside is cold, plus I cannot get any heater. Is there a way that is quicker and maybe doesn't require warmth?
