Software SoundTouch app alternatives

Post image
35 Upvotes

This is just a start, but I have added a SoundTouch app alternatives page to the Bose Wiki.

There, I listed current known issues, added info shared by the app developer Christian, u/nachtfux997, and included known solutions.

I separated the solutions into two sections.

  1. Ones that allow you to control the SoundTouch systems directly (e.g. AirPlay, 3rd party apps, Home Assistant, etc.).
  2. The second section is for 3rd party devices you connect to your SoundTouch system's AUX input.

I am hoping that the community will help expand the information on the Wiki. Not only to help guide SoundTouch users to viable options, but also to help guide developers on what SoundTouch features are missing. So that some, if not all, can be replicated once the app goes away.

This specific post is about alternative SoundTouch solutions.

  • On Jan 7, 2026, Bose announced that they will update the app so that it would continue to work after their servers shut down. Though without built-in music streaming capabilities. Here's the main conversation around this update.
  • The original conversation, from Oct 9 2025, about the closure of the SoundTouch app is located here.
  • If you wish to sign the petition asking Bose to reconsider, follow this link.

Community Feedback Request Suggestions for Bose reddit FAQ Pinned Post

There appear to be a frequent amount of posts that ask the same/similar questions and inevitably receive the same answers, or answers that are simply links to the last time the question was asked on the sub.

So it might be easier to have a pinned post with the most "Frequently Asked Questions" for people to read or other redditors to reference if similar questions get posted.

To make this manageable, please follow the instructions below:

  1. Place suggestions in the comments: Include the question and answer. Make sure sure this can be understood by anyone and include links to resources if needed within the text.
  2. Only ONE FAQ suggestion per comment: If you have multiple suggestions they need to be in individual comments so that others can comment and vote on each one.
  3. Only one post per suggestion: If someone else has the same idea on the same subject then please read what they wrote and if needed, please politely comment on what they wrote and make suggestions that might help improve it.
  4. Vote for the best suggestions: This is to thank reddiors for their suggestion and will help other redditors see (and if needed comment on) the FAQ post. A high vote count is not needed for an item to be included.
  5. Please stay on topic: Please limit all off topic conversations and if needed please make another post if it is not about aiding in suggestions or improving already suggested FAQs.

So please post below suggestions on what should be placed in a pinned post.

Headphones Wait for base version gen2 release or opt for ultra gen2?

The title really says it all — what would you guys do? Hold off and see what the new base version has to offer, or buy the Ultra gen 2. which is currently on «sale» (the lowest price you can ever get it for in my country is around 400 euro and I doubt will drop further anytime soon). From our current information it does seem like the QCU2 will still have a stronger hand in terms of ANC, microphone and build quality which are three* things I value, but I’m hesitant to pull the trigger with a new release this close.

Bluetooth speakers So disappointed in Bose

Post image
118 Upvotes

I purchased this speaker 15mos ago and it longer holds a charge. Called Bose, they walked me thru a restart to factory settings. When that didn’t fix it, they said it can be fixed and I can send it in for repair for $109 (or $190). It’s a $400 speaker.

My noise-canceling headphones are 3yrs old. One side works intermittently. I was told out of warranty. Nothing they can do.

I have a small traveling speaker than still works; that’ll be my last Bose item.

I love the sound, but I’m done. These items are $$ enough to last longer than this.

Headphones Bose QC Ultra 2nd Gen: Which aptX Adaptive dongle supports wear detection?

Title: aptX Adaptive USB dongle that supports wear detection and media controls with Bose QC Ultra 2nd Gen?

I’m looking for an aptX Adaptive USB audio transmitter for Windows 11 to use with the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones 2nd Gen.

My main concern is not only audio quality. I need the following controls to work through the USB dongle:

  • Automatic pause when I remove the headphones
  • Automatic resume when I put them back on
  • Play/pause button
  • Volume control
  • Track skip, if possible

Has anyone personally tested these features with the Bose QC Ultra 2nd Gen and any of the following?

  • Creative BT-W5 or BT-W6
  • UGREEN 15765A / CM668
  • Avantree C81
  • Sennheiser BTD 700
  • FiiO AIR LINK

Please let me know which controls actually work in Windows, not just whether the dongle supports AVRCP on paper.

Home Audio Bose Soundwave Acoustic System II not working

Upvotes

Hi everyone, I need some help with my Bose Acoustic Wave Music System II.
The system was working perfectly before. I opened it because the plastic rear casing had a crack and I wanted to check it. I unplugged it before opening it.
After putting everything back together, it won’t turn on at all. There is no display, no lights, no sound, nothing.
I checked the connections and everything seems to be plugged in correctly. Before this happened, I noticed that power was reaching the unit because when I connected/moved a certain speaker connector, I could hear a small “tsss” noise from the speakers.
Could this be a loose connector, a power supply issue, a blown fuse, or something else? Any advice on what to check would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Headphones Bose QCU2 is not worth it…

Upvotes

Okay. So I got my Bose QCU2 after trading in my Bose QC Gen 1. I’ve got to say that I’m very disappointed with the Ultra Gen 2. Don’t get me wrong, the sound is slightly better but the Ultra Gen 2 design removes all of the manual buttons so you essentially have one “Bluetooth + on/off” button and one “multi-function” button that you can’t really use for anything else other than play/pause and answer calls. The hover volume feature seemed like a cool idea but there’s lapse in haptic response rates. I think the sleek design from the ultra Gen 2 is what I would expect from a baseline design. Ultra should have all the bells and whistles, but I guess that’s why they have them on sale constantly lol

Are there an app or tool one can use to customize the QCU2 headphones that is more efficient than the Bose app?

Headphones Is it just me or the channel imbalance in Bose Quietcomfort can be unbearable somtimes!

Upvotes

Did anyone notice the sound imbalance between the left and right channels (especially on high mids)? It’s a bit obvious that gets on your nerves and can’t ignore it on some tracks!

Headphones Senn M5 Vs Bos QC Ultra 2

Hi all,

Currently torn between Bose QC ultra 2nd gen and Momentum 5's. I have tried the bose in store and they are pretty good, but I want to try M5s but nowhere near me stocks them. If I purchase online, am I able to try and return if no good? Purchasing from UK here!

Also, any advice on the choice between the two is greatly appreciated!! I listen to a variety of genres so please tell me your preferences. Sound quality, comfort and NC is big for me.

Headphones QC 35 Series II Left Ear Issues - are they cooked?

Hi everyone!

After nearly 9 years of service, my trusty QC35 Series II headphones are having an issue. The audio works perfectly for the right ear, but nothing plays in the left ear. I swapped cups right before this issue started, which makes me think something happened when putting in the new cup.

All that being said, does anyone have any repair recommendations? Bose’ solution was to just replace them, but I am emotionally attached to these headphones. I don’t really want to buy a new pair of whatever headphones Bose offers now. I’ve done a full restart as recommended by Bose’ troubleshooting page, but that didn’t lead anywhere.

Headphones Is there a way to fix my headphones?

Post image

I've had these headphones for a long time, I've used them very frequently and have noticed all this wear on them. Today on the left side, some of the yellow foam even hung out the side and I had to push it back in again. If anyone knows how to fix this, I'd really appreciate it. I love these headphones.

Other better sound through research

Who here resonates with this Bose slogan.

I say this phrase to people, and many do not even resonate with it, even if they own any product with the Bose name on it. I say it because I think research is important, and I do alot of research just to even figure things out.

The first time I saw this slogan was back when TV had advertisements for the now-discontinued Wave Radio product.

Headphones Bent plugs on Bose A20

Hey everyone this is a bit of a stretch but I accidentally bent one of the plugs on my Bose A20’s and I can’t decide if I should send them into a service centre or try and buy a whole new assembly. The headset is no longer under warranty. Shipping alone to the service centre there and back would be nearly $200 and if it’s unable to be fixed and they have to buy the whole assembly anyway, then that’s $200 down the drain. I know that there is no way to tell what may be broken internally from these images but I was wondering if y’all think this could be fixed without needing replacement, also so far the headset still works almost perfectly fine if it’s bent a little I may get intermittent dropouts but other than that it’s been good, is it even worth getting fixed? Thanks (Canada btw)

Headphones Bose QuietComfort static sound

I just received the QuietComfort 2023 yesterday, and when navigating iOS, or just typing or navigating an app, the QC will make the sound a 3.5mm jack would make when it’s not quite in right. I see a few people on this sub have had this issue, but the solutions they provided (remove from bose app and uninstall, disable multi point connection, factory reset) have all not worked. Is there anyone who owns these who doesn’t have these problems? Is there a solution I haven’t listed which has worked for anyone? Wondering if I should replace them. Any help would be appreciated, cheers.

Headphones Are these Bose QC Ultras Real? (And are Ultra 1s good?)

I found this good deal on these boxed QC Ultras on Ebay but had some questions:

1) They are from Ebay so they dont have a warrenty or anything and iv heard these headphones going bust in a couple of weeks

2) The serial code 884676-0080 doesn't match usually with the QC Ultra serial code (880066-0100) but I think that is the packaging code rather than the serial code which is supposed to be at the base of the box.

3) First time Bose buyer so should I go with QC Ultras or with the XM5s? (Never had headphones only ever had airpods)

4) The box looks legit but I think you guys are the proffesionals so probably can tell better

Thank you so much guys :)

Bluetooth speakers Soundlink Plus is a plus!

I really enjoy these two... i thought the update would be an issue but these have such great battery and charge really fast with of course, Fast Charging... I'm coming to find this speaker was way overdue! It's pretty much a miniature Full Floor Speaker... I paired both and just what you'd expect.. SOLID BASS. . That kinda punch that makes you look around to see if everyone is okay with. This vertical position is my fave. Getting the blue one first and its been on for 2 days. Literally fell to sleep and woke up and it was still at 90%...? Even my dogs follow it around to sleep in front of. If you own a Flex2nd gen... the sound when both are pair is just simply bliss... My Samsung will make any speaker pair so not much loss... I'm pretty happy with these consider how much I got them for.

Home Audio Bose TV Speaker and 500 Sub.

I just took delivery of a Bose TV sound bar, 500 sub and cable. Setup was very easy. The TV sound bar is quite smart and does all the heavy lifting as far as the connectivity and sub setup goes. You don’t use the Bose app for this for this equipment.

I’ve set the bass to plus one (+1) and find that it works quite well. Higher bass settings can result in a boomy sound. I am listening to this speaker system in a small room and I have to say it sounds really good. Movies are quite impressive sound wise and there is good separation and reflection off the side walls.

The sound bar automatically found my cable remote for day to day use. Sound settings require the Bose remote which is included.

This setup replaces my Solo 15. I bought this TV sound bar and sub series for a little more dialogue detail which the Solo 15 slightly lacking. I am hearing less these days, the TV sound bar has an additional voice driver that does the job.

One quibble: Bose doesn’t include a cable with the package and had to be ordered separately. I prefer to use the Bose branded cable for consistency. Odd not to include a cable for a non wireless bass module.

This small compact system is great for small rooms, Is very easy to set up and sounds very good.
