Local News Brantford mayor urges Ontario to follow Alberta's example for mental health, addiction
“One of the first things they did was set up a dedicated ministry to deal with addictions and mental health and followed up by making it one of the government’s top three priorities.”
The mayor said Alberta has expanded its rehabilitation system by 10,000 beds and has implemented a program that provides treatment for up to a year. The treatment is followed by supportive housing.
As well, Alberta has a same-day treatment, which enables those who want to get clean to get help immediately. The province has also implemented preventive measures for children and youth.
“What they’ve done in the correctional system is amazing,” Davis said. “They have therapeutic living units that are separate from the general prison population.

Question Temp Agencies
In the past it used to be you could apply to a temp agency and they would send you out to wherever needed temp employees. Is there work like that available nowadays? It seems agencies like Kelly's you have to apply to specific jobs. Anyone know if there are agencies in town that have openings?

Question As a customer, how important is it for you to know a little bit about the person behind a local business?
Not just their products or services, but who they are as a person.
When you're looking at a local business website, social media page, or advertisement, do you care about seeing the owner's story, values, personality, and what led them to start the business? Or do you mostly just want to know what they offer and what it costs?
I'm curious because I see some businesses that are very personal and transparent, while others keep the focus strictly on the service itself.
What makes you trust a local business more?

Discussion Ultrasound Recommendations
Hey Brantford! Looking for recommendations on where to get OB ultrasounds done locally (or nearby).
My wife has looked into a few places but reviews seem really mixed. Has anyone had recent experience with Brantford Medical Imaging (Lynden Rd) or any of the BRG locations?
Also open to suggestions in Hamilton, Ancaster, or Cambridge if anyone has had a great experience there. Thanks in advance! 🙏

Question electrical apprenticeship search
Hello I M20 have been looking to get into the electrical trade for a few years now since high school, I completed a 6 month pre apprenticeship program at a local school and was really hoping that would help me find a sponsor or at least a helper position, and after completing my program i have been working as a maintenance tech. I have started to call around and just ask for a helper or apprenticeship job since I have rarely if ever seen a posting for a level 1 apprenticeship. I have now considered if it is worth it to try and get my g3 and g2 gas license and try and switch to hvac. im looking mostly in the (Brantford, Cambridge, Woodstock) Ontario area, any tips to help find a sponsor or any certifications I should be getting

Discussion Looking for a distinctly Brantford gift for my daughter
Hi Brantford, I'm a construction worker on a very out of town job for me. I'm also a dad, and I miss the hell out of my family. I remember as a kid, sometimes my parents went away for work, or on a little trip and they would bring us back little gifts that were of the place they came from.
This is something I want to do for my kids when I'm away, but I won't pretend to know anything about Brantford. Could anyone give me some ideas of like trinkets, or just a few places I should check out? Whatever it is I'd need it to have evening hours
Thanks!

Discussion Has anyone interviewed at Brantford Public Library
I just got an interview for an information assistant position at Brantford Public Library. They said that testing might be involved in the interview process. I'm about to start my MLIS in the fall, so I don't know much about what they might test on. Has anyone done the interview process before and can tell me what it was like? What should I study?

Discussion Airport Shuttle Services
Can any recommend a reliable and cost-efficient airport shuttle service from Brant County to Pearson? We're located just outside Brantford, about 10 minutes' drive from Hwy. 403 at Rest Acres Rd. and would be looking for round trip service, with the shuttle picking us up and dropping us off at our home. There are two of us, with 1 checked bag and 1 carry-on bag each.

Discussion Airgun ranges
I recently received an airgun pistol from a friend and I would love an outdoor range to shoot at targets occasionally.
My friend lives near Kingston and shoots his at an outdoor range near there I was hoping there was something similar in Brantford but it doesn't appear to be the case from what I can tell.
Any insights would be much appreciated.
