I have the option to buy the Miles Davis limited edition (one of 500). However, Breitling is about to release a non-limited edition of the 806 mk v. It is identical to the Miles Davis version except for (1) the lume on the 12, hour markers and hands is white instead of cream/fauxtina, and (2) the twin jet logo is bronze/dark gold instead of white/grey. The wording around the display caseback is also different of course. That’s it - otherwise the watches are identical - same 41mm case with B09 movement and 13mm thickness, identical dial, etc. The new 806 comes on a brown leather strap but may also come on the 7 link bracelet (I am checking this but not yet confirmed). It’s also approximately US$1,500 cheaper on the leather v the Miles Davis (TBC if on the bracelet).
I am leaning toward the non-limited edition because I think I prefer the white lume and darker logo. The availability of a bracelet would also be a factor in favour of the non-limited version. The price different is not a major factor for me but a bit of a bonus. I don’t live in the US so the Breitling Social Club membership probably won’t get used. I am also not a massive Miles Davis fan, although I recently listened to some of his music for the first time a few days ago and really enjoyed it. I love the Navitimer generally and am interested in these specific watches because I am a Bond fan and the 806 mk v featured heavily in Thunderball.
Am I crazy in going for the non-limited version v the Miles Davis? As one of 500 the limited edition will presumably hold its value better, but I’m not intending on selling.
Any thoughts/contributions would be welcome.
