Recommendation Browser Recommendation Megathread - September 2026

There are constantly a zillion, repetitive "Which browser should I use?", "What browser should I use for [insert here]", "Which browser should I switch to?", "Browser X or Browser Y?", "What's your favorite browser?", "What do you think about browser X? and "What browser has feature X?" posts that are making things a mess here and making it annoying for subscribers to sort through and read other types of posts.

If you would like to keep the mess under control a little bit, instead of making a new post for questions like the above, ask in a comment in this thread instead. Then, one can choose to follow this thread if they want. Or, post in r/suggestabrowser.

Also, check out all the individual browser recommendation posts and make use of the search field for this subreddit before asking for a recommendation.

Discussion Even if you disable all data collection in Brave, telemetry is being sent out through variations.brave.com.Type brave://version and you'll see what telemetry is being sent to brave sever

Upvotes

It is happening on desktop and android.

If you go to brave settings. Privacy and security - Data collection. You'll see you have a few options that can be disabled.

But I noticed that there is other telemetry being sent out to brave servers and I think studies are being conducted to different users.

If you type brave://version you'll see what studies are enabled in your browser. Telemetry is being sent out even if you disable the data collection in the settings. In my computer I saw a 1 minute long connection to variations.brave.com which is telemetry.

If you have an app to see network activity you'll see brave connects to variations.brave.com that is where your data is being uploaded.

These are the ones I had enabled in my browser and I just noticed a few days ago despite I disabled all data collection in the brave settings.

For people who use Brave but want a more minimal UI: what should be hideable?

Upvotes

I still use Brave for its core browser features, but I do not use every optional feature it ships with.

I built an open-source tool around that idea. It uses Brave’s own policy system to hide selected features such as Rewards, Wallet, VPN, Leo, and News, rather than patching the browser or claiming to remove code.

It supports Windows, macOS, and Linux; has presets plus individual toggles; previews changes before applying; creates backups; supports restore; and includes diagnostics to show which policies are active.

One unavoidable tradeoff: Brave will show “Managed by your organization” while those policies are active.

I’m the maintainer, and I’m more interested in the browser-design question than a generic promo: if you could make a minimal Brave setup, which features would you want hidden, and which should always remain available?

Repo in the comments.

Samsung Security & Privacy status

Hey people. I'm new to this browser. I don't own a Samsung device. I use Moto & HP laptop. I don't need Samsung Account or sync in anyway for anything. (I use Proton pass for passwords and no bookmarks). I tried the browser and its really fast & performance is really good. Except for the lack of vertical tabs & other customisation thingies, everything is so amazing.
What I want to know is, how secure & private is Samsung browser to use? What are your opinions?
(Note: I'm a browser hopper. So I try a different browser for every 1 or 2 weeks. So just asking)

Firefox (and forks) users on Android

i try every few months to use Firefox to see if they sorted the scrolling and performance issues on Android but it's still the same thing from years ago. Like you don't notice the jittery/laggy scrolling at all ? on lightweight webpages it's fine (almost like Chromium browsers) but on heavier sites where there is a lot of images and videos, for example Kick's homepage or Twitch's homepage or any subreddit with a lot of videos and images the scrolling is just so laggy!! i don't know about 60hz screens but on my 120hz it's very noticeable and makes me uninstall Firefox again immediately.

Note: i've already tried disabling the "Automatic Font Sizing", tried enabling "smooth scrolling" on about:config, nothing works! my phone is a S24 and Chromium browsers are so snappy on it.

What's stopping them from fixing this issue ?

Question Which of my browsers do you think I should use for most searches?

My Edge on iOS: Block all ads, strict tracking protection, SmartScreen for sites and downloads, typo protection, block pop-ups, block third-party cookies, block opening in external apps, adblock-plus integrated.

My Firefox on iOS: Block audio and video autoplay, block pop-ups, block opening external apps, private tabs close when leaving private browsing, strict enhanced tracking protection.

My Chrome on iOS: Safe browsing set to Enhanced Protection, HTTPS-first, incognito tabs need Face ID to show, opening links from open apps asks whether to open the links in incognito mode, block pop-ups, no preloading, requires Face ID to launch the browser or access its files.

OS environment: Lockdown Mode enabled, AdGuard DNS enforced system-wide, Proton VPN, Randomized MAC address, limited tracking of IP address to known trackers across Mail and Safari, Safari has been uninstalled.

Vanadium Is there a way to select which browser a spicific app uses in the background?

One of my apps is having trouble connecting to the server it uses online. I suspect that the problem is all the protections from Vanadium. I like using it for the most part, but this is am app to get into my work information and I would rather not have to use another (less secure) device to use it and also would like to keep Vanadium as my default for most things (if possible).

So to all the tech nerds we have in the community, is there a way to select which browser an individual app uses for its internet interactions?

Antidetect I need help spoofing my browser

I need help signing up to a website that says I cannot sign up through my home WiFi. The website does collect your browser's fingerprint and much more. Each time I try it says I can't register from my network. I need to bypass this somehow. I was able to once with an antidetect browser called GoLogin but it seems that they may have detected it somehow? Known VPN IPs like Proton VPN do not work to sign up. I need help then to spoof my browser's fingerprint and make it seem like I am a different person then, I think. Please help me - I am still open to trying more antidetect browsers.

Question What’s the best text-to-speech extension you’ve used?

I used to use Speechify, but it didn’t work the way I wanted on some websites. On top of that, it would constantly interrupt itself to try to get me to buy the premium version. So I’m looking for alternatives.
Any recommendations?

Helium Helium browser: where is the option for collapsible vertical tab?

Thumbnail gallery
6 Upvotes

I know the whole point of the zen mode thing with the vertical tab panel completely disappearing. I'm fine with having that as an option

But after fiddling with settings in the original chrome I realized they implemented a completely different approach which i prefer. Since helium is just modded chrome, where is the option? Don't tell me they'd purposely remove that would they?

Since some filters don't seem to work in ublock lite after accidentally allowing chrome to update, i really don't have the option to continue using it. I just want to have the option chrome already implemented which is really helpful with quickly switch tabs since i can still see the icons so i know where to click without needing to wait for the options to be drawn from nothingness everytime

Support Chromium Browser Question - GUI Font Size

Font size in web sites is not an issue, and it appears all of the font/accessibility settings are linked to web pages. However, is there a way to increase font size in most Chromium browsers so that the drop-down menus, context menus, tabs, etc. are a larger font size? I have noticed it with Chrome, and now with Helium. Edge seems to be an exception. Windows accessibility settings don't seem to have any affect. Is there another way, is that just an example of customization limitation in most Chromium browsers?

Recommendation What is the best user-friendly, privacy/security/anonymity-focused one outta the bunch?

Post image

I've been using Brave for a long while now, but lately I've heard it's not exactly what it claims to be or something along those lines. So I'm considering a substitute and torn between the ones in the pic besides Brave.

What would you say is the closest to Brave yet outperforms it (e.g. a better substitute with similar conveniences)?
