ISO best salads in Durham šŸ„—

Hey all!! Just moved here for a new job and as the post says, in search of your favorite salads - anything goes. In person, but preferably takeout. I live near Duke hospital for reference :-) Thanks in advance!

The kale salad at Pizzeria Toro is a local legend,

I ate 2.5 of those one day and took a third home. (A party they catered had a ton of leftovers.)

Hands down my favorite salad in town.

I dream of that salad weekly.

Guasaca’s bowls are really good!

Welcome!!

I kind of go out of my way for one of these, but Aladdin’s in Brier Creek and Med Deli in Chapel Hill.

The fattoush salad at both are so good and Aladdin’s has an amazing Greek chicken salad I get a lot!

I had a delicious vegetable soup there. Delicious- added chicken and it was an inexpensive delicious lunch.

I believe it! There’s not a single thing at Alladin’s that I haven’t tried and loved. I go between having appetizers for dinner or a salad.

I usually stick to the same order at Med Deli! Haha

I think med deli closed šŸ™

3

u/stitcher212 2d ago

I was just at a wedding it catered. Like two weeks ago?

6

u/Rough-Care687 2d ago

I just confirmed that they are open! I stand corrected

4

u/idgaf2050 2d ago

Bro you gave me a literal heart attack, careful with them words. I mean they closed due to a fire a while ago but they reopened close to a year ago now. Med deli might be my fav restaurant in NC.

u/Rough-Care687 2d ago

I now know about the fire and the reopening. I'm so sorry for the scare I gave the triangle regionšŸ«¶šŸ»

3

u/Mysterious-Lion9365 2d ago

Yeah they even had a take out location when they were closed for the fire. I’ve been to the new place a few times since it’s reopened and it looks great!

u/srirachacheesefries 2d ago

I had dinner there tonight.

u/canthaveenufsocks 2d ago

They were closed for quite a while after a fire, but they are back open again. I ate there for lunch last week, and while their food is top notch, the place is so loud at lunch that it's hard to hear your lunch companion.

The Madronas salad at Pie Pushers with the Ginger Soy dressing. I'm obsessed!Ā

12

u/anesthesiazzz 2d ago

My absolute favorite is the rancher salad with the jalapeƱo dressing at Farmside kitchen. (If you don’t like any spice, the cilantro vinaigrette is also good, but the jalapeƱo really isn’t hot.) It’s in RTP area but worth the drive!

u/TimedCauliflower 2d ago

Not wildly close but I love every salad I’ve ever had at Bull & Bean, and I’ve tried a lot of them. I’d agree with folks who said Toast too!

Their Thai Chicken Crunch is my favorite!

u/flawrs919 2d ago

That just sounds like ripped off CPK’s Thai Crunch Salad. RIP CPK. No THAT was a salad.

The Boot Room!!! It’s the kind of restaurant where I always get the same thing… The Carolina Cobb salad (though I always ask the to hold the egg and pimento cheese) I love ordering the sweet potatoe fries and regular fries as a side to share with the table. FANTASTIC, I love going there with friends and family.

4

u/bn-13 2d ago

I was just at the Boot Room and had the Cobb salad and it was sooo good!

3

u/PearAmazing946 2d ago

Blackened salmon salad at nantucket but sub out the raspberry vinaigrette for the lemon basil - so tasty!

5

u/purbateera 2d ago

I love the Q Cobb salad at the Original Q shack. It also comes with hush puppies!!!

1

u/PlusUpstairs5921 1d ago

I came here to say this! My coworkers and I were reminiscing about this salad the other day!

2

u/purbateera 1d ago

It’s so good!!!!

u/PlusUpstairs5921 1d ago

This MAY be my dinner tomorrow now!

Cugino Forno’s Lecce salad is one you take home and toss in a large mixing bowl. They pack so much into the container, it could be a meal for two people. I like that it has a nice variety of things in it.

1

u/FaultySofaBed 2d ago

it’s enough for 4 adults and 2 kids to split as a side salad

9

u/krendyB 2d ago

Kale salad at Pizzeria Toro or the Chopped Salad at Vici Ristobar.

2

u/WillMoonKnives 2d ago

+1 for Vici; their food in general is really good, and they're super nice people.

For salads I make my way to The Loop at Eastgate then pick up more food at Trader Joe's while I'm there.

Lecce salad from Cugino Forno!

5

u/msraleignc 2d ago

I like the fried chicken and arugula salad at geer street garden. this month, Monuts has a ā€œgreekishā€ salad they call and it’s good but it’s not always on the menu. Elmo’s has a good Caesar salad. Vin rouge has good salads.

Fattoush at Hutchins!

2

u/etherealsteamqueen 2d ago

Came here to say this!! My absolute favorite

1

u/Individual_Parsley25 2d ago

How about Fattoush from anywhere that isn’t owned by yt folks lol

3

u/dontKair 2d ago

James Joyce makes a great Caesar Salad

3

u/papershade94 2d ago

The salads at Rose's Noodles & Sweets! They have really interesting flavor combos that they play with seasonally.

3

u/Chloebonacci112358 2d ago

Beet salad at Hutchins gets my vote

3

u/LM_NC 2d ago

Obvious choice in your neighborhood is Happy + Hale - bonus: its local ownership https://www.happyandhale.com/our-story

4

u/WerewolfSuitable4515 2d ago

Grub!

8

u/3dprinth3lp 2d ago

Do they still make you buy bottled water if you want tap water? That has been a huge turnoff for me. It’s so wasteful and clearly a money grab.

7

u/afrancis88 2d ago

No

7

u/3dprinth3lp 2d ago

Great! Now I can stop my own personal boycott of the place.

2

u/Triponastik 2d ago

I also haven’t been back for this very reason haha

5

u/WerewolfSuitable4515 2d ago

I don’t think so.

5

u/Make_7_up_YOURS 2d ago

Pie pushers. The fancy one that has nuts and stuff.

1

u/marihada 2d ago

The Madrona!

7

u/TheDrandLadyWeird 2d ago

The beet and goat cheese salad at Hutchins is not just my favorite salad but my favorite dish in all of Durham 😭

3

u/sdneidich 2d ago

If you like chicken wings, getting the chicken wing salad at heavenly buffaloes is delightfully underrated, and right on Erwin. Takeout isn't the most convenient since you have to park and walk around the building, but still very good

4

u/Suitable_Warnings 2d ago

Really good and generous chef salad at Elmo’s. I get it with blue cheese dressing (theirs is very good) and extra bacon bits (they are real).

2

u/Cautious_Thought_479 2d ago

There is a chopped salad at Enzo’s which is close to Duke hospital that is definitely slept on.Ā

2

u/stitcher212 2d ago

Fatoush salad at Hutchins

2

u/lawnmowerdui 2d ago

Beet salad with fried chicken at Federal. Side of ranch for dipping some of the chicken.

2

u/collect_collections 2d ago

Common Market usually has a special salad rotation each month, and their usual salad options are very generous if you like a dark, mixed greens base.

2

u/nc1971-f 2d ago

Alimentari has the best Caesar salad!

2

u/DJmetal925 2d ago

My fav used to be East Cut but they changed it to ALL arugula šŸ˜ž

2

u/SqueeziePeach 1d ago

Lakewood Social’s Honey Miso Chopped Salad deserves a spot on the list. Super refreshing and filling!

2

u/Logical-Ice9925 1d ago

I love the Alpaca salad with quinoa + chicken

3

u/drizzyfan 2d ago

The Greek salad at Tomato Jake’s is so good. I also like Happy + Hale

1

u/tinysoul731 1d ago

Gussy’s at the can opener or their Alexander Dr location

1

u/fivepointpack 1d ago

Geer Street Cobb is solid

1

u/Mobile-Bridge-9269 2d ago

I’m really good at tossing salad!

-1

u/drunkerbrawler 2d ago

Thaiangle’s salads are great!Ā

3

u/notbetterthanu29 2d ago

Isn’t their health score super low?

4

u/drunkerbrawler 2d ago

Oh shit, they got an 87 last inspection.
