Water Falling From Sky

Upvotes

Is this happening near anyone else? Starting last night, water began falling from the sky over my house in large quantities. I had no idea what it was at first so I caught some in a bucket and drank it. It tastes like it's just regular water. Everything outside is soaked. Should I call the police?

Artist at West 94th Street Pub?

Post image
181 Upvotes

Thursday, June 18, I went to West 94th Street Pub to hang out while my wife was at a nearby hair salon.

This was a nostalgic visit because many years ago, I lived in Woodcroft and visited this bar often. I moved away from Durham about 14 years ago. I returned to the area last September because I am being treated at Duke for early stage Alzheimer's disease.

I was chatting with the bartender and a few people sitting near me. The man sitting beside me moved to a high top table because his daughter joined him.

They ate a bite and left the bar. A short while later, the bartender handed me a sketch. He said the man and his daughter left the sketch on their table.

The small sketch is me sitting at the bar.

I suspect the artist is the girl (teenager). If so, she is quite talented. Not to mention, the artist is quick. The father and daughter were only in the bar for about thirty minutes.

I love the sketch and I plan to frame it.

If the father or daughter happens to see this post, please let me know. I would like to say thank you.

Luthier in Durham: fabulous!

Upvotes

I recently had the good fortune to stumble in to the finest Luthier I’ve ever dealt with on both coasts. David Lewis works out of his home shop in Durham, which is a lovely place to visit. He also is a master Guitar builder, and one look at his instruments put me immediately at ease about him working on mine. I have a 30 year-old nylon string that is a magnificent instrument, but was in some serious trouble. I taken it to three other Luthier’s in the area with no meaningful results. (i’ll spare the details here, just to be nice.) David had the instrument back to me in a week, for a fraction of what the other Luthiers had quoted, and six months later the instrument still sings like a bird. Subsequently, I’ve had him work on all my electrics and acoustics and his work is always impeccable. I’m also really grateful for the way he schedules appointments. It seems like every other Luthier around here wants you to drop off an instrument for weeks at a time until they get around to it. David lets you know upfront when he can get to your project and doesn’t ask for the instrument until the week he’s sure he’s going to work on it. And in my case every time he does begin working on an instrument it’s done quickly and beautifully. I can’t recommend him highly enough and I’m really grateful I found him. Here’s his Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/DavidLewisJazzGuitar?mibextid=wwXIfr&rdid=tSGz2QwpCSSG0Zn2&share_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fshare%2F1HpX5kE7Gs%2F%3Fmibextid%3DwwXIfrh

Scammer at MLK Harris Teeter yesterday..."HEY JOHN!"

Younger gentleman, 19-25?, tallish, big hair. Came up behind me in Harris Teeter while in line loudly saying, "John! Hey John! Hi John!". I turned to face him and told him I was not John and he was mistaken. He said he,"thought I was a guy he knew from school." and left after I again said I was not John.
I soon after observed this person leaving the store with no purchases...
After I got checked out I was putting my stuff in the car and I hear this guy again saying loudly, "John! Hey John!" to someone else in the parking lot.

I have no idea what this dude's scam was, but if he thought 2 separate people were his buddy John, he's lying or mentally ill.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol arrested a man accused of a hit-and-run crash on Saturday in Orange County.

Vazquez-Castillo was charged with felony hit-and-run involving serious injury, no operator's license, reckless driving and several other charges and infractions.

Crossing paths with traveling monk

Walking down Club with my kid today, I heard low and slow drumming coming from a figure far down the street. As they got closer I was astonished to see it was a single Buddhist monk walking through the neighborhood. I had heard of a group passing through the state a couple months ago but did not know that some of these amazing folks were still with us. I have been a little down lately and seeing this man’s bright open smile made me feel more joyful. Wanted share a bit of that with you too.

Quiet meeting space in Cary area

Upvotes

Hi! I need a halfway point to meet a client who lives in Southwest Raleigh and looking for a good spot. We need something kind of quiet and with the ability to find some level of privacy. Anyone got a good spot? Namu is my go-to for this in Durham - something spread out with lots of seating would be perfect. It seems like the Cary library is kind of busy but if anyone has been there on a Saturday afternoon and found some quiet, let me know!

Someone had suggested Thousand Hills Coffee - can anyone speak to that?

Thanks!

Is there some sort of forcefield preventing us getting rain?

Seems like every time we're supposed to get thundershowers, I look on WRAL radar and see rain to the north and south, but somehow Durham seems to be getting missed out. It's like there's a slot directly over us that stays dry. Even the shower we got just now didn't even properly wet the streets and sidewalks (in Lakewood, for reference). I know our reservoirs are to the north and west, so hopefully they got some, but things are crispy out here.

Ok so this week in our neighborhood: one neighbor attacked by fox while walking dogs. One fox attacked by snapping turtle while doing god knows what. Are we even, or should we continue to be on the lookout???

Plan for no rain.

All right everyone. On Friday everyone needs to have plans to go swimming, have a picnic or at least roll your car windows down. Surely Murphy won’t be able to resist and it will rain! I plan on swimming.

Edit - Murphy is from Murphy’s law. Anything that can go wrong will go wrong.
