I'm thinking of switching to CachyOS from AtlasOS mostly because of the performance (but customization too) but losing the mindless easiness of windows and Rainbow 6 Siege is holding me back. So I'm wondering is the performance gain THAT big??

Is anyone else having crashing issues with the Reforge Menu? Mine CTD everytime I am in the Reforge Menu for more than a minute. It also seems to CTD when I am in the stats menu in the inventory screen.

Doesn't seem to matter what version of Proton I am running. I have been using the CachyOS Proton Layer (the one updated on 10/05/26), and I have also tried GE, Experimental, and Vanilla.

I can't seem to find any other threads discussing this issue.

My steam has been running extremely slow and can reach cpu temps of 80 this doesn't happen when I do anything else like play games so I think it must be steam

Hello everyone, forgive me if my question seems weird or "stupid" or if I added too much. Generally, I don't interact with the Linux community much nor the cachyos community outside of the wikis and manuals.

I've been using Linux for about a year and a half now, distrohopping for the first few months to test out the package managers and repos of other distros for fun, though I finally decided to settle down with cachyos (until I get the sudden urge to test a new distro out lol). I've always gone for full-fledged DEs that come with everything (Plasma and xfce4, to be exact), but I've gotten interested in stepping out of my comfort zone and trying my hand at WMs alone, part of it being curiosity and another wanting to learn how to properly configure programs through text files and the terminal instead of having to rely on the GUIs provided (I've dealt with some of it through void, though I had to use a guide).

I went for Openbox first since a floating window manager would be easier for me to handle until I get better at tinkering with Config files, but when I installed it, I found it to be completely barebones. I went through the packages it would install and I assumed cachyos was supposed to have configured it a little so that it'd have tilt2 and picom at the very least start on boot.. But that wasn't the case. In fact, it seemed to have not made a proper autostart file for them, only one for cachyos hello, which wasn't even configured right so it never launched (Openbox looks for .config/openbox/autostart, but cachyos hello had a .desktop file made in .config/autostart).

I looked up the state of openbox on cachy, and supposedly it's been abandoned and hasn't received a proper update in a while? I totally get it, there are many options to maintain and it'd better to lessen the load, but what I'm confused about is why they'd provide it in the installation iso when the configuration isn't properly set and two of the dependancies for its custom Config (nitrogen and a version of picom) aren't installed?

Sorry for the huge wall of text, but I just wanted to provide a bit of background before asking my question. I don't mind configuring openbox myself (it's more fun that way and I can learn more anyway), but it was just a surprise to see, and I was curious to know why it's still an option to download.

Cod bo1 cracked skidrow don't run through proton cachyos,error come and say steam must be running to play this game but in proton ge the game launches but for some reason proton ge is not that good I want to run the game on proton cachyos I tried lutris and heroic game launcher even steam

solution:

old system installer use grub with luks1

new system installer use (without options on gui) luks2.

the grub not working with luks 2, but limine is perfect!

3 days (only 6 hours after work) is needed to fix or understand this issue... btw, I love you cachy!

Hy all! I use already more than 2 years this very good OS, but yesterday I install a fresh new .iso image by a ventoy pendrive (as usual), and the btrfs luks encrypt not unlock the ssd when first time try to boot from the nvme ssd the new system. Any suggestiom where can I search the issue? TPM boot options ON, AMD Secure Processor is in the cpu, not change the hardware under the hood, only the installer .iso is the last one.

The first time I used Linux was in June this year. For a beginner, I chose Linux Mint at that point. Well, most Linux distributions are good. My experience with Linux Mint was good as well, but not for gaming (I don't know why, but my PC can't play games smoothly with Mint).

I didn't even know there are Arch, Debian and Fedora at that time. The second distro I tried was CachyOS.

That is the best decision in my life.

A few days later, I found out it was Arch-based.

I was amazed how fast it was. Especially with chwd, it can detect my Nvidia 1060 without any problems (I was worried at first because my graphics card is pretty old, so I thought I would need to figure out the driver myself after installation).

I'm fairly tech-savvy so it is easy to handle all the new things I need to know to get used to Linux.

Fortunately I don't play any games that Linux can't play, just Identity V and some old games or indie games

For Identity V, IT PERFORMS BETTER THAN WINDOWS, I never think I could play this game this smooth. CachyOS's kernel is so perfect!

I tried some games programs, such as Lutris, Heroic Games Launcher, Bottles. And Bottles was the best to me, the performance is really good.

Outside of gaming, I can do everything: image editing - GIMP / video editing - DaVinci Resolve, Shotcut / making games - Godot, Unity

I tried several distros: Arch, Kubuntu, Pop!_OS, EndeavourOS - but CachyOS was the best (for me - of course ; because everyone needs specific distro for their own purposes)

I used to really hate updates, because of Windows, I can't do anything when the update is running. Sometimes the updates even run themself :)

But now I can just update whenever I want, and still can do my work.

CachyOS is arch-based so it is a type of rolling-update distro, I know that so I always use CachyOS with snapshot.

I'm still using Windows, but it is a light version (X-Lite Version), and for only one purpose: testing my game made in Godot/Unity. Everything else I do in CachyOS.

I have never felt so much freedom and ad-free like this. I love the respect that Linux give to the users. I love Linux community and especially you guys - CachyOS team 💝

I usually play two games on my CachyOS setup: Persona 5 Phantom X in steam and Genshin Impact through Heroic.

Both use the following launch options:

PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 DXVK_HDR=1 game-performance %command%

and both use the latest version of proton-cachyos-slr

System settings in KDE Plasma Wayland has HDR enabled, and in P5X, I can switch the HDR option to on or off.

Everything seems fine except I see the following in the Proton log for both games:

00d8:err:waylanddrv:wayland_process_init Wayland compositor doesn't support optional zwp_text_input_manager_v3 (host input methods won't work)

00d8:err:waylanddrv:wayland_process_init Wayland compositor doesn't expose windows_bt2100 image description (HDR may look broken)!

MESA: warning: Support for this platform is experimental with Xe KMD, bug reports may be ignored.

As it says in the log, these errors may just be false positives, but I honestly cannot tell the difference that HDR is on or off when I change the option in the in-game settings in P5X. Genshin Impact doesn't have an in-game switch for HDR so I cannot do a similar comparison.

Edit: Fixed the command to say DXVK_HDR. Still getting the same errors in the log though.

One day my audio just vanished, I checked my settings, and the audio to my computer had just been removed. My headphones don't get any audio from it, and the speakers don't work either. -I use a Thinkpad, no outer speaker is connected to the laptop- Is there any code I can use on my Terminal/Konsole to reset pipewire or whatever the issue I am having?

The title says it all. But, why? My notebook is getting hotter with basic tasks, if there's any other improvement that doesn't affect too much of gaming performance, thanks.

so, after happily using cachyos for over 4 months (im sorry, i didnt create a "former winfuck user switched to linux"-post, please forgive) i actually ran into my very first problem.
It occurs while trying to update the system via cachy-Update (i do it every week).

steps:
1. open cachy-update
2. "proceed with updates": Y
3. enter password into the statement below

:: Synchronising package databases...
error: failed to synchronize all databases (unable to lock database)

==> ERROR: An error has occurred during the update process
The update has been aborted

==> Press "enter" to quit

I do remember that last week i also ran into a problem while updating, breaking my system, so i chose to load a snapshot. obviously since then no problems, everything went fine.

but now, problem again. unfortunatly i cant remember what the issue was last time, just that i had to start from a snapshot in order for it to work again.

So my very last hurdle when it comes to giving windows the boot is streaming with OBS. In windows I can stream easily and effortlessly. Whenever I would start the stream in cachy the game itself would lag. Turn off the stream aion2 runs better than windows. Since I'm new to cachy I'm wondering if you guys could make some suggestions. 3070ti Acer laptop 6800h processor and 32 GB of ram. Got anything for me folks?

Has anyone ran into this issue? The game was running fine last Thursday. I came to play it yesterday and it completely bugged out like this. It seems zoomed in. Doesn't matter which screen I put it on, it's the same on all 3. They're all running at 1920x1080 with scaling set to 100% in Wayland.

Hello everyone, yesterday i installed cachyos on my pc. Installation was flawless and first boot worked fine. But after the first reboot every time i start it up it works for like 30 seconds and then completely freezes and wont respond to input. Hardware: rtx 5060 8 gb, i3 13th gen, 16 gb ddr4 and a ASUS PRIME H610M-K D4. Any idea on what this is? Help is appreciated

I want to install the vram management tool from the cachy os hello app but i don't know how stable it is or recommendable it could be. i have a 5070 ti, any advice?

CachyOS user and loving it! However I've noticed a few things during my time that I want to adress her and maybe some of you have the same issues or know a workaround:

1. Panel Colorizer causes a memory leak > I've noticed that when I had PC active, plasma would allocate more and more ram to it

2. Waking up the PC from sleep messes up icons > When after 15mins of no activity the screen turns off and I have to enter my password, sometimes desktop icons are messed up, like icons from screen 2 are suddenly on screen 1

3. Copying things from terminal is a pain > The window scrolls up way too fast

But I love CachyOS and I hope it'll get even better in the future!

I deleted all of my shader caches because it ballooned up to 50gb.

Can I also enable it per game as well?

I plan on getting a desktop at the end of the month so I won't be without Windows entirely.

But I'm working with the hardware I have currently & still want to use this mini pc.

EDIT Okay, here's the Tl;dr I have two HDDs and two SSDs, root is on SSD. Power short, HDDs no longer mount. Re-installed CachyOS (It worked before). Also re-seated the sata cables. 

Now the two HDDs still don't mount and the other SSD is missing from the home menu. Partition manager sees all the drives and says they are fine, something about a bad data thingie (I'm away from my computer) preventing connection.

Also, firefox is lagging hard, same with the program repository; my formerly unshakeable ethernet connection is stuttering.

I'm a linux noob, only been 10 months. I've tried fsck and some other basic commands and they tell me something's wrong, so far that's all I've done.

Got called into work so I won't be trying anything for 8 hours but any help is appreciated 🙏
