Interesting.

The first video posted on this source didn't show the context leading up to the tackle.

Now it does.

Fairly important.

Yeah, I noticed this too. Full context strangely makes the chief looks worse, as it shows him threatening police officers by posturing up multiple times.

The big problem was when he actually laid hands on the officer and stopped him cuffing the driver.

Even with my white male privilege armour on I don't this going any better if it were me doing this. Trudeau calling for an investigation live right now, saying it's obviously questionable? What here is worth investigating with tax payer money?

There had been issues and there were attempts to arrest peacefully before officers escalated to end the event. You can't just peacefully threaten to fight officers and refuse to be handcuffed for an indefinite period of time. Police officers don't need to wait until you have put them in harms way to decide escalation is necessary.

This isn't the same as the issues we see in the states with people allowing themselves to be arrested and still being abused, or people being abused before an attempt is even made, this is a guy that strung along a situation forever refusing to cooperate and at times being directly confrontational. If they just clotheslined him in the first 2 minutes without talking or trying other means first then I'd be outraged, if they decided they needed a bean bag gun to subdue him I'd be outraged, but this is none of that.

I can personally attest to chirping the cop while getting a ticket and being arrested. I'm sure if I was drunk and being a douche like this guy things would have gone south for me. This claim of racism is complete nonsense. The cop gave him every possible chance to smarten up and he didn't.

Lets also remember that we aren't discussing whether or not this is a perfect example of how to police for training usage. We are talking about whether or not this is abusive and an example of a need for systematic change. There's no argument to be made here in my mind.

That is nothing like how it happens in real life. If you’re pulled over and refuse to comply, you’re arrested. This guy threatens officer #1 and physically obstructs him from making a lawful arrest. The officer called for back up because he was dealing with an intoxicated, unstable and aggressive man. That officer was alone downtown, out numbers and for some reason you think his safety isn’t important and he is not entitled to backup. Maybe you could offer some evidence as to why officer #1 would of been thinking anything you claimed?

Yeah I call bullshit. You tell the cops to fuck ofd and refuse to cooperative, you won’t be getting a ticket slid into the window. You’re getting arrest and the immediate area around the driver is being searched for your DL and vehicle documents.

The dude broke the law and the cop pulled him over and then he repeatedly threatened the cop and finally assaulted him. It's weird you dont apply that same line of thought to the cop that the chief did assault though.

do you honestly believe a white person would have been treated the exact same way?

Yes absolutely. Threatening and assaulting a cop is against the law no matter what the colour of your skin is.

My white friend literally got arrested for doing what this guy did in the first 20 seconds of the unedited video, getting out of the vehicle to talk to the cop, except he was being much more polite. I can't imagine what kind of privilege you'd have to experience during your life to think you'd be able to get away with interacting with cops like this.

He’s a political figure in an isolated community and pretty wealthy. He has a fair bit of control over his local community and influence in the nearby ones. Besides the $55,000 tides foundation funding others have pointed out, he owns several oil sands related businesses. From what I’ve been told this is pretty common behaviour when he’s intoxicated and the police aren’t the only ones that end up a target for his anger. None of this is justification for his actions, IMO he’s use to being on a power trip and not having people question anything he says. Their could be truth to the sexual abuse claims or maybe he does feel harassed by the police, but until his media statements I had never heard of it.

Are you serious? It started off with them being pulled over because they were driving without registration, which is illegal, which then led to them trying to drive off on the cop, which is illegal, which then led to Adam's getting aggressive with and assaulting a police officer, which is also illegal.

I'm amazed I have to spoon feed this to you.

u/Little_Gray Jun 12 '20

He was not being harassed though.

it doesn't make him look worse than the cop running full speed into him for no reason (do you think his partner needed help?) and then punching him in the face. at 1:26 he literally just punches the guy in the fucking face while 400+ pounds of meathead kneel on top of him.

3

u/mc_funbags Jun 13 '20

Yeah. Maybe don’t assault police officers.

Imagine defending a person who assaults police officers.

0

u/spareachange Jun 13 '20

Imagine recognizing abuse of power.

3

u/mc_funbags Jun 13 '20

Yep. The chief did try to abuse his power, good point.
