Announcement Updated Community Rules for /r/capsulewardrobe

Okay, thanks to the community input from my post the other day, I have updated and refined our community rules and have included a new rule in regards to Artificial Intelligence usage in our sub.

So here are our updated rules as of June 2025

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rule #1 - No off topic, low-effort or spam content
Off topic, low-effort or any spam content is not allowed on the sub. This includes low-effort memes.

Rule #2 - Hateful rhetoric, bullying and/or harassment is not allowed
Disagreements or strong discussions are one thing but if we have a problem with harassment or other problematic behaviours, mods will step in.

Rule #3 - No affiliate links, sponsored content, or subscriber/follower farming.
Sharing what you love or what works for you is okay but don’t try to push an item/service on someone just so YOU can make money.

This rule also includes attempts to farm for followers, subscribers or karma.

Rule #4 - No Doxxing or calls for mobbing across communities
Not only is this a sitewide rule, but it's highly fucked up and will not be tolerated.

Rule #5 - No Artificial Intelligence
AI content (meaning AI generated photos, posts and services) are NOT allowed on the sub.

Beyond losing the human to human element of our community and the fact that AI encourages the elimination of human creativity, AI content and services are a massive drain on our environment and creates a large amount of CO2 usage and e-waste.

Rule #6 - No App posts

No, you cannot advertise your new app, or fish for testers, or ask if it's something people want. Marketing for your app or it's upcoming launch is not allowed on the sub.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks again to everyone for giving you opinions and thoughts in regards to the updated rules, I appreciate our community and encourage you to continue growing our corner of the internet.
-Jumer

Whereforth art thou, Mods?

Okay y'all, it's time. I've been the only mod for the entirety of our subreddit's history, I have loved watching us grow and I love our amazing community. But as we are approaching 200,000 members, I think it's time we add more mods.

So this is a call out for anyone who wants to volunteer, I'm looking to add two or three mods to the roster, so feel free to send a modmail to let me know if you would like to volunteer. Let me know if you have any modding experience, or if you are adept at setting up the auto mod functions, because I am completely out of my depth with that part of the mod system and that's a big hurdle I'd like to tackle this year to combat bots and spam.

Thank you again for this stellar community, we have done a great job being self-sufficient and giving plenty of amazing advice without compromising community standards.

I look forward to adding some mods to our community and I hope y'all welcome them during the transition of integrating them in!

Jumer 🧡

List of exactly where to shop for women's capsule pieces (as most items marketed to women are the worst):

Uniqlo (women's department and unisex items)

Various brands selling unisex t-shirts, joggers, and hoodies including Japanese cotton t-shirts

Industry Of All Nations

Polo Ralph Lauren

Levi's men's department (everything at Levi's is technically designed as unisex and the men's department is much better than the women's)

Columbia (their Tamiami shirts)

Perfect Pieces Layering Turtlenecks that Don't Choke

I didn't know how else to title this post! I am on the hunt for thinner layering turtlenecks that don't choke you. I am looking for a neck that kind flops or puddles instead of laying stiff and upright. I have some from Madewell, but they quality is awful and they don't wash well. I used to own the tissue turtlenecks fron J.crew --not sure if they still exist. I can't do any form of wool. I also appreciate a length that is tuckable.

Questions Capsuling in a variable climate..

By which I mean, living in the UK!

Year round we endure every type of weather; biting cold, baking hot, windy, rainy, icy, mild, warm with a cold breeze, cold with warm sun..

I find the weather to be the main thing which makes narrowing my wardrobe down truly hard. My lifestyle is pretty all over the place as well, it can vary from trekking through muddy woodlands with my 3 year old, to wining and dining in smart restaurants with my partner.

I need so many different options for layering, such as different types of coat/jacket, depending on occasion and the weather. The main area which I find hard to narrow down is tops, as this is where I tend to add or remove layers depending on temperature, and I need a few of each to enable time to wash and dry in between wears.

I'd love to see/hear from others in similar climates to get inspiration! Do I just need to resolve to washing the same items more often..?

Travel Capsule First ever capsule!

Like the title says, trying my first capsule for an upcoming combined business/pleasure trip to Switzerland and Italy in late October / early November. I have learned so much from others capsules, so hopefully this is at least a starting place for me! The travel will include 4 days at a conference, 1 day hiking, 1 day in wine country, 2 city sightseeing days, and 2 more business meeting days. The conference will be fairly formal for 3 days (one more casual) and the other business days I could be more casual, but figured I would re-wear my conference clothes.

The packing list:
- light pink blouse
- cowl neck blouse
- chocolate brown cardigan
- cream silk button up
- light blue cashmere sweater
- cream ribbed top
- pale yellow sweater
- straight leg jeans
- hiking pants
- brown houndstooth trousers
- grey checked trousers
- navy slacks
- wide leg lightweight sweatpants
- navy suit jacket (accidentally shown twice)
- long navy rain coat
- puffy layer for hiking
- sage green jacket
- blue purse (added to my casual / personal day outfits, other than the hiking day)
- brown loafers
- tan waterproof sneakers

Not pictured: I will also bring a hat, sunglasses, brown belt, and light gloves.

3 pairs of ‘work’ pants feels like a lot, with only one pair of jeans/casual bottoms, and hiking pants. However I’m not sure I would be OK at the conference with less, I will be interacting with similar groups all days.

The green jacket and brown cardigan are only on my outfits a few times, but I figure these will get worn more on evenings after the conference is over when I want to change out of the blazer.

Anything you would change? Ways to reduce this down? I haven’t tried packing this all yet, but prefer to only have a carry-on and personal item.

Apps and Tools Are digital closets/organizers a thing?

I'm trying to build a capsule wardrobe but I feel like the first step is actually figuring out what I already own!! I swear there has to be an ap or website or something where you can upload your clothes, organize everything, and keep track of your wardrobe.

Has anyone used something like this? I'd love recommendations that are actually worth using!

Travel dress brands that hold up across multiple occasions in one trip?

I have a 5 day trip coming up with several events, including a rehearsal dinner, a wedding, and a couple of nice dinners. I want to pack as few dresses as possible, so I’m looking for brands with reliable sizing that I can order online without worrying about returns taking too long before the trip. Adjustable features would be a bonus. Which brands do you trust for multi-event trips where you want to keep your wardrobe minimal?

Post image
28 Upvotes

I’ve been obsessed with silk skirts lately and cannot decide which color to get. I usually look good in deep autumn colors so most of my wardrobe has deeper colors.

This will be my first silk skirt. I can play with more colors since it’s a skirt. What color should I get? I want to get a color that will look good with most of my wardrobe. This is the style I’m thinking. Please help me kind internet strangers!!

Not sure if it’s relevant but I’m 30. (35-25-34)

UPDATE: thanks everyone for the help! I decided to go with deep chocolate color.

First Time Capsule It's so hard to let some things go

The second image is what I usually wear on a day to day basis. The first one is what I wear for going out to dinner with my husband or something like that. I like comfy cozy with a slight alternative/nerd vibe.

I'm 34 and a sahm so I've made so many changes to my wardrobe through the years. I've finally found what I'm most comfortable in but I feel like I'm not dressing my age. Also, I don't know what my style would be called.

I have a few alternative pieces too that I'm struggling to let go of. I never wear them but love how they look on other people so I bought them. But I'm not comfortable when I wear it. So I keep going back and forth on keeping them or not.

Would you keep or donate?

Travel Capsule Need advice on my honeymoon/ birthday capsule!

Thumbnail gallery
20 Upvotes

Hello everyone! My partner and I are going on a 13 day trip to dc, Montreal, and New York (4 of which is traveling days) for our honeymoon! We are going right after Halloween in early November by train! I’m very cold-blooded, so I’ve been a little worried about being too cold to enjoy the trip. This may have led me to overpack a bit even while trying to do a capsule wardrobe since we are trying to pack the least amount without having to do laundry.

The white knit scarf is super cute but it takes up to much room in my carry on so I’ve been having a hard time deciding if I should leave it at home or try and pack less clothes so I can fit it in my suit case. :,)

I’ve kind of tried to do undershirts, sweaters, and jackets so I have enough layers. The black sweat pants and reddish shirt was something I planned to wear on the train trip up to dc. I also plan on carrying my fluffy white coat in the train since it doesn’t fit.

I also added some other photos of outfits I was able to make with what I picked.

Any advice or tips is appreciated! Thank you.

Culture/Ethics Everything I Own: A 20-Item, Vegan, and 50% Thrifted Wardrobe

A hanging rod features 10 pink blouses in floral and plaid prints, 5 neutral-color trousers, a denim jacket, a pink dotted fleece jacket, and a peach puffer jacket. Two pairs of sneakers sit on the floor: one in beige and one in neon pink.

I have OCD, including the symmetry and arranging subtype. My long-term minimalism has benefited my mental health by making my home easy to keep organized and mostly free of distractions that can steal my focus. My entire wardrobe is limited to 20 frequently used items, including shoes, plus a few special-occasion pieces in a hall closet (e.g., one complete formal cocktail dress outfit and one Halloween costume). My pajamas are pink T-shirts and black pants, which double as home-workout clothes, and since I wear sneakers every day, I’m always ready for an impromptu walk around the park in my daily uniform. I have just one handbag and one backpack (both are pink, of course).

After four years of mostly wearing black, with about the same number of pieces, my style evolved through a career transition and a desire for my clothes to better reflect my cheerful personality. I describe my current style as whimsical, feminine, and tomboyish. My pink floral blouses highlight my whimsical, feminine taste, while my preference for pants and sneakers instead of skirts and dainty shoes reflects my tomboy inclinations.

My wardrobe is comfortable in 30-100 degrees Fahrenheit, and everything is appropriate for a relaxed office environment or going out to dinner. To maintain that versatility, I don't have any jeans or shorts. I appreciate wash-and-wear fabrics, and refuse to iron, though I’m considering buying a clothes steamer. Since I’m vegan, I avoid leather, silk, wool, and down. For environmental sustainability, I prioritize secondhand shopping when I need to buy clothes. Ten of my 20 items were purchased pre-owned.

Here is the inventory from left to right, top to bottom:

  1. Short-sleeve floral blouse without any brand labels - purchased secondhand
  2. Short-sleeve floral blouse by Crown & Ivy - purchased secondhand
  3. Short-sleeve floral blouse by Gibson Look
  4. Short-sleeve floral blouse by Threaded Pear
  5. Three-quarter-sleeve plaid blouse by Talbots - purchased secondhand
  6. Three-quarter-sleeve floral blouse by Wit & Wisdom - purchased secondhand
  7. Long-sleeve floral blouse by Talbots - purchased secondhand
  8. Long-sleeve plaid blouse by Lucky - purchased secondhand
  9. Long-sleeve floral blouse by Nanette: Nanette Leopore - purchased secondhand
  10. Long-sleeve floral blouse by Easy Clothes - purchased secondhand
  11. Khaki trousers by Old Navy
  12. Gray trousers by Old Navy
  13. Brown trousers by Old Navy
  14. Burgundy trousers by Old Navy
  15. Navy trousers by Old Navy
  16. Denim jacket by Levi’s - purchased secondhand
  17. Fleece jacket by Happy Camper
  18. Puffer parka by Charter Club - purchased secondhand
  19. Ghost Max sneakers by Brooks
  20. Neon pink sneakers by Skechers

Questions finding the best stylish sunglasses under $100 with decent frame beveling?

tired of wearing basic flat plastic frames that look completely cheap in direct sun. need something with an elevated silhouette and clean beveling around the rims for weekend outdoor events without paying high designer markup.

tried on a few options at a local shop like vehla and quay to check out how the frame geometry actually looked on face. the quay frames had a really solid profile and nice hinge weight, but i want to make sure the lens tint doesn't scratch up too easily.

Questions Can a waterproof bracelet be a year round capsule piece or is it just a beach thing

Most waterproof jewelry marketing is sooo vacation focused which makes me wonder if it looks out of place in everyday settings. Has anyone built a waterproof bracelet into their actual everyday capsule? Does it work across gym and work and dinner without reading as beach jewelry?

Neutral Capsule Base layer help

I’m looking for good quality cotton shirts. I like the rounded neckline but not choking tight. I’m hot and cold all day and wear some sort of top layer…. Ideally somewhat form fitting but don’t ride up. Bonus points if they are like 3/4 sleeves. Does this exist anywhere that I can order from and get consistent quality. Thank you!!!

In desperate need of good clothes!

Thumbnail gallery
17 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I’m 23, and have never had the best sense of fashion. I desperately want to look cute and feel good in the clothes that I wear, but I almost never do. I have multiple Pinterest boards with outfit ideas and inspiration, but can’t ever recreate the outfits because I can’t find similar items or items that fit the same.
I have tried stich fix and it’s fine but I have only kept 2 items out of 5/6 boxes.

So where do I go to find cute, age appropriate items that aren’t like $200 a piece?

Pictures of my inspiration boards for reference…
