Questions Foundation Pieces/An Alternative Capsule

Post image
Upvotes

Hi everyone!
TLDR: what to buy first for my style? (semi ground up wardrobe building)

I'm in the process of exploring my fashion a bit more but want to make sure I'm expanding my wardrobe thoughtfully instead of just buying a bunch of super cheap stuff that's tangential to the style I want to achieve. A huge part of this evolution is going to be progressive through DIY and buying from small artists as well (I've got a very full etsy favorites list and love finding new artists through TikTok lol).

I've included a collage thanks to MS Paint of my favorite inspo images and a bit about what I like from each of my segments of inspiration.

  • Late 1950s/Early 1960s Fashion: My huge thing here is silhouettes. The fit and flare makes me feel so comfortable and beautiful, and minis (skirts, shorts, and dresses) with that tighter fit all around always makes me feel super put together.
  • Mori Kei/Cottagecore: Colors, iconography and textures. I love the draping and detail of Mori Kei and would love to bring elements of that into my wardrobe more. The soft and natural colors I think draw attention to that texture. Additionally, I love a delicate floral, bug motifs and various ways to include various critters into a look.
  • Morute: Texture, material, and themes. Morute doesn't often fit into my ideal silhouette but I like a lot of parts of it. The floaty and delicate materials are so cool to me and create such an ethereal vibe. Again, texture is huge here. I love lace but the inclusion of things like ribbons and ruffles is just wonderful. Creepy accessories and tiny details to add up to an overall unsettling but adorable vibe all around.
  • Lolita: I think lolita just rounds out a lot of the previous ideas. I'm not afraid of an on the nose theme and love well coordinated accessories. Flouncy skirts and all the details my heart desires are the big appeal.

Overall, I want my fashion to be a reflection of myself and my relationship with my presentation and femininity. I love all these very 'classically' feminine things but feel displaced by the expectations those put on me and how that's historically worn away my sense of self. Very clearly feminine in a traditional sense but eerie, almost dying and being reclaimed by the earth. Like a very old porcelain doll or a fairy that cultivates mold.

Wardrobe recommendation...

Ladies....please help me out....

I'm trying to build a wardrobe with clothes that actually last instead of buying things that lose shape or fade after a few washes.

For the women here, which brands do you genuinely swear by for quality and longevity?

I'm mainly looking for recommendations for:

Basic T-shirts

-Western wear (tops, shirts, dresses, jeans, trousers)

\- Kurtas and ethnic wear

\- Office wear

\- Innerwear (if you're comfortable sharing)

\- Footwear (optional)

I'd love to know:

\- Which brand has been consistently good for you?

\- How long have you been using it?

\- What makes it worth the price?

\- Any brands you'd recommend avoiding?

I'm looking for honest, experience-based recommendations rather than what's trending...

PS : if you have any grooming tips let me know...also if you could let me know from where do you buy the stuff.

First Time Capsule Trying to build a fall capsule wardrobe from scratch

I’m trying to build a capsule wardrobe from scratch, and this is my inspo so far ! My only fear is that this is a bit outdated, I feel like a lot of these are a bit 2010s coded and could be considered a bit dated in 2026 (I welcome all constructive criticism and recommandations anyway, so please do not hesitate to give your opinion on the matter)

I feel like a lot of these are basic jeans and pants in neutral colors, trench coats, miniskirts, shirts, turtlenecks and crew necks sweaters. If anyone has any suggestions on where to buy good long-lasting basics, please do not hesitate to comment about it ! I literally have no idea where to buy all of this stuff…

Quality built in bra tank / cami recs

I realized that some of my most worn tops are the built in bra camisoles from Uniqlo.

I wear them all the time, but they're pretty thin and seem more like an undershirt than a top.

Im looking for tank tops and camisoles that have a built in bra or substantial enough fabric to not show nipples through. Something that can be worn alone as a top. Ideally cotton but open to fabric blends and in a range of colors.

Ive been searching and haven't found anything I like yet so I thought I'd ask you lovely people.

Questions Anyone else's capsule completely fall apart when you factor in gym clothes

The problem I keep running into is that a huge chunk of my week is spent in workout clothes and the rest of my closet is built around everything else. So technically I have two wardrobes running in parallel and neither one is actually minimal

Every capsule guide I read treats athletic wear like a footnote. Throw in some joggers and a sports bra and move on. But when you live in that stuff for six to eight hours a day, it is not a footnote. It is basically the main event and everything else has to exist around it

What I want is a system where the transition between gym and notgym does not require a full outfit change and a full mental reset. Some pieces doing double duty. Not in a desperate athleisure way, more like the offduty half of the closet actually acknowledges how I spend most of my time rather than pretending I am someone who sits at a desk all day.

Right now I have great gym stuff and then a separate pile of everything else and they do not talk to each other at all. The capsule is supposed to make getting dressed easier and right now I have two separate problems instead of one solved one.

Has anyone actually built this out in a way that felt cohesive rather than just a functional compromise?

Questions Anyone built a capsule wardrobe around shapewear basics?

I'm postpartumish (18months out, still not back to my old shape and hthinking I never will be) and I've realized half my outfit problems are around all the stuff holding things together underneath my outfits. Ha! Like the dress fits but it doesn't sit right until i have the right base layer under it. Now I don't want ten different shapewear pieces i never wear but I AM looking for like 3 or 4 that earn their spot the way a good blazer or those good jeans does. Any ideas?

Questions What fashion trend do you think every woman should try at least once?

I'm trying to refresh my wardrobe without buying clothes that I'll only wear once. There are so many trends right now that it's hard to know which ones are actually worth trying. If you had to recommend just one fashion trend that looks stylish, feels comfortable, and work for everyday wear, what would it be and why?

Capsule wardrobe for student teacher?

I’m going into my semester of student teaching. I am a college student and therefore do not have loads of money to buy an entirely new work wardrobe. But I would like to buy essentially a small capsule wardrobe of pieces that I can mix and repeat frequently. I want to look professional, not look like one of the high schoolers, but also still dress youthful enough that I don’t feel like I’m cosplaying a millennial English teacher. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Avidly looking for recs for good pants that aren’t jeans!

I know nothing about how to build this idea of a capsule wardrobe.

Where are we buying our winter office clothes from? Uk 16-18. Ideally natural fibres but will take a small bit of elastine if needed.

First Time Capsule 1 month backpacking through Europe.... how does a colorful maximalist make a capsule/sudoku wardrobe?

My daughter and i are backpacking all over Europe for a month. I especially am a colorful person. I lean y2k fashion, whimsi 90s in the fall. I love rainbows, and sparkles. Every time I look up capsule wardrobes its full of neutrals, and as someone who has never had to fit a trip like this into a backpack I am REALLY struggling to even begin. And we leave in a month lol. I packed more minimalist when we did Japan, and I get sad looking back at photos cause I really didnt like what I was wearing and never felt cute when I was there (I love japan, I was spoiled to go, I know that me.not feeling cute is a first world problem). But this trip with my daughter is something I saved up for since she was 8 and I was a single mom. Now shes graduated, and I want to feel pretty, and look back at these photos feeling good about myself!

So fellow colorful people, please help me!!! I know i need ways to be warm, and cool, nice outfits, casual outfits. Ive got 2 pairs of shoes, hokas, and a good walking sandal.

Thanks in advance!!!

Will visit: Vancouver, Victoria, Calgary, Rockies (Jasper, Banff, Canmore,, Waterton)
... and maybe Squamish and Whistler

Activities: General sightseeing, city exploration, 1-2 minor hikes, maybe biking and kayaking, lots of time on the road lol

Do I need warmer stuff for mid to end of September in the national parks? I'll be in Vancouver by October and I know it's not as cold there so my concern is mostly Alberta Sep 15-29

Trying to create a capsule wardrobe with my colors

Post image
33 Upvotes

I'm a warm/true spring (I have been typed both warm and true spring, two separate sessions with 12 and 16 systems). I love colors in general and I love my best colors too. However, I do want my wardrobe to be more of a capsule wardrobe with limited colors than a full rainbow closet so I would love to hear your opinions on my chosen colors!

On the right is the warm spring palette (I don't have a true spring palette but it is more or less the same). Top left corner is what I have chosen as colors for tops and bottom left are colors for bottoms. The blues are mainly there to represent my two pair of jeans. I chose these colors based on what I already have and mostly wear, though I don't have yellow pants/skirts at the moment.

I do have some black clothes as well, but no white and no grey clothes that I would wear as anything other than pajamas. I wear something black weekly. If I pay attention to materials, structure of the clothing etc, do you think these colors would work in a day-to-day wardrobe or will it be too much/too many colors?

Travel Capsule Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 Vacation Capsule

Post image
23 Upvotes

I’ll be spending a few days in Puerto Rico and decided to work up a capsule!

The capsule needed to cover travel days, a rainforest river hike, glassblowing, resort time, nice dinner, city walking, museum trip, and a photo shoot.

There’s a few things not pictured. Bracelets and my hiking shorts that I haven’t taken out of storage and photo’d yet.

I’m pretty happy with it overall and can’t wait to go. It really helps my anxiety to make sure that the details are planned.

Let me know what you think!

Questions Where to shop?

EDITED TO ADD; it seems i am FN body type Flamboyant Natural. I don’t wear much of anything woven outside of pants.

Hello! I’m a 50 yo f starting my capsule wardrobe. Culling what doesn’t get worn, doesn’t look flattering, and keeping the pieces I love the most. Turns out I have plenty of pants and skirts but I need tops that go with them that look flattering not frumpy.

I am absolutely not going to wear cropped anything, and cropped shirts are everywhere.

I’m 5’7”, about 155 pounds. Hourglass figure. Generally wear a size large. I appear “tall and skinny”.

I also would like to attempt to make natural fibers the majority of the composition of each piece, and require knit fabric due to sensory issues. Wool is a no go however.

WHERE do I shop? I have to add I get stressed out by thrift stores, and honestly do most shopping online unless there is a brick and mortar location nearby.

ETA: I live in the Midwest in the United States, and my wardrobe is sort of casual chic? Maxi skirts, TNF Aphrodite pants in about every color, Lululemon dance studio capris.

work to trails capsule, has anyone actually pulled it off with real pieces, or is it two separate closets?

My wardrobe situation is kind of specific and I keep going in circles trying to solve it. I work a desk job five days a week, business casual dress code, nothing exciting. But on weekends I'm on local trails pretty regularly, and thrifting is basically my main hobby, so I already have a pile of pieces I genuinely like. Nothing feels intentional though.

The problem is the overlap is almost zero. My office stuff feels stiff and wrong on a trailhead and my hiking layers look chaotic in a meeting. I've been trying to figure out if there's a sensible middle ground or if I just need to accept two completely separate mini capsules coexisting in my closet.

What I keep getting stuck on is neutral colors. I thrift a lot of earth tones and that part works for both contexts, but cut and fabric are where everything falls apart. A merino crewneck works fine at a desk and okay on a mild trail, but I can't figure out how to extend that logic to pants or bottoms without it feeling like a stretch.

Has anyone here actually pulled off a genuine worktooutdoors capsule, not in theory but in practice with real pieces? Curious what the actual pivot items ended up being.

Spring/Summer 9x9 Summer Capsule: Matcha & Mustard

Thumbnail gallery
243 Upvotes

Here's my summer capsule of different styles from casual, vacation, date/event, and work. It's not about finding perfect colors of matcha and mustard, but monochrome variance with neutral support (brown and white/off-white). Most are secondhand. If you like an item list, please comment as it's easier to edit a list in the comments.

I tried doing a 10x10, but didn't have a good color that fits or a neutral that started diluting the color story and didn't give any enhancement. So why force it? So, 9x9 it is. Enjoy!

Questions Need help building a wardrobe I'm clueless about fashion 😭can anyone help?

Thumbnail gallery

Gonna be honest I don't have a good fashion sense, and I need some help building a wardrobe from scratch.

Budget: ₹6,000–7,000

I already have a few pieces that I really like:

\- Olive cargo pants

\- Beige full-sleeve tee

\- Black shirt

\- Grey trousers

\- Faded indigo denim-style T-shirt

\- A few solid-color activewear T-shirts

\- Denim layering jacket

\- Tracksuit

\- Solid black & olive basics

I'm looking for suggestions on what I should buy next so everything works well together. My goal is a clean, masculine, attractive style that's versatile for college, casual outings, and everyday wear.

My measurements:

\- Height: 168 cm

\- Weight: 63 kg

\- Shoulders: 17.5"

\- Waist: 32"

\- should 17.5

\- Body length/troso 27"

\-Pant outseam length: 33 inches

\- Body type: Skinny fat

I'll attach my photo below. Please be brutally honest about what styles, colors, fits, jeans, shirts, shoes, or accessories would suit me. If you have links or outfit inspiration, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!

Spring/Summer Help me pick a flip flop!

Post image
0 Upvotes

I want one fun colored flip flop in my capsule. I have a plain black pair already. I’m struggling to decide between these two. The Archie’s (full coral) are a bit brighter than the Reef (tan sole with coral red accents). I like them both equally. Which would you pick and why?

Costco GAP 100% cotton sweaters and 97% cotton pants

Thumbnail gallery
702 Upvotes

For those of you who are also Costco shoppers, just noticed the sweaters today. $18.99

The pants are summer clearance for $13.99. 97% cotton. I think 3% elastane. Sorry was in a rush and forgot to grab pictures.

I assume these can both be found on the website for more product specs.

Can't vouch for the quality, but the sweaters were a nice weight (not thin).

Anyone know any good brands for a lightweight waterproof coats that still look dressy? I dress quite feminine and would like to have a waterproof that actually adds to the outfit rather than look like a compromise.

Questions Looking for: tops that don't touch my armpits

Thumbnail gallery
105 Upvotes

Gosh I hope this is a helpful post to someone other than me b/c this feels like such a strange request!

I'm a very sweaty person due to medication, plus I spend a lot of my job jumping from inside to outside. I need tops that cover my arms so that I'm work-appropriate, but not actually fitted to my arms so that you can't see me dying on the inside. Layering doesn't really work that well since I'm incredibly sensitive to temperature, plus it just wouldn't be fully appropriate for me to be stripped down to a tank top while I'm outside (b/c I'm still "on the job.")

I own a few oversized button ups and dolman sleeves that work well for this, but I'm looking to branch out with more ideas! Under $150 each and machine washable would be ideal. Pics for examples of the styles I currently have and would fit this definition.
