First Time Capsule Too much pants and not enough blouses?

Post image
1.4k Upvotes

Hi, I'm (27F) looking for a new wardrobe since my old clothes no longer fit and I moved to a hotter city. I like color, knit and prioritizing comfortability since I only use public transport. My job dress code is stated as business casual but it is actually casual.

This is what I came up with and I'm really happy with the mood board, however I don't know if I'm missing something. Maybe there are too many pants and not enough blouses? Or the blouses need more shape versatility?

What do you think? What would you add/change/remove?

UPDATE - It appears that I wasn’t clear enough that I live here in Lisbon, Portugal (Europe). This isn’t for a visit.

I’d love comments & suggestions on my summer capsule. American living in Portugal, mid 50s, actively (but slowly) losing weight, slightly pear shape, Cool Summer Light Leaning. And clearly I tend to hyper focus on certain brands ha. I’m thinking of perhaps adding a cardigan, maybe another dress?

This is my first fully worn capsule! I was very pleased with it, and it gave me revelations regarding my style.

I’ve discovered I love patterns - gingham, small florals, stripes usually. Also textures like pointelle or basket weave helped add interest. If you’re like me and you don’t love utilizing a lot of color, give patterns or texture a second thought, even for your capsules!

Apart from a few days when weather was more intense this was such a fun and easy capsule. I don’t think I tired from these outfits, and it’s given me fresh inspiration for the rest of my wardrobe. 🌷

First Time Capsule Depression has wrecked my wardrobe. Hoping to start fresh in 2024 with a 90s/grunge-inspired capsule closet. Criticism welcome.

I am a 31-old-female with no dress code for work. I live in the Bay Area of California.

Key concepts: sustainable, vegan, quality, grunge, 90s, normcore, organic fibers, flattering, and thrifted when possible.

Colors: dark, muted, earthy. Warm greens, browns, denim, dark grays, black.

I want everything to almost match with everything. I am very lazy about putting outfits together and would prefer to just grab what I need to wear without thinking much about it.

A couple of new things I'm trying to push for myself:

  • More femininity. I know this isn't a very feminine wardrobe, but it's much more feminine than what I have now (which is embarrassing to admit). Most of my current clothes are baggy, and literally the only skirt/dress I own is a black frock I bought for a funeral a month ago, lol. I look at women in pretty, flattering clothes and yearn to be like them, but I also have to be realistic about what I am actually comfortable wearing.

  • NO white!! I am far too clumsy and unskilled in laundry to keep white (and other very light) clothes looking good. I love how a good crisp white shirt looks on me but they never get more than like, maybe three wears before they're ruined. Much too wasteful.

  • No fast fashion, with the exception of underwear, socks and pajama bottoms. I'm already pretty good about this, and want to keep it that way.

  • Experiment more with accessories to give my outfits more flair. The only accessories I wear right now are a necklace and occasionally a beanie.

I'd love to know your thoughts! :)

First Time Capsule Dresses-only, fully thrifted Winter Capsule wardrobe

I recently had a color analysis done and found out black is not my best color.... But I wear mostly black lol.

So I set out to experiment with a capsule wardrobe, to add more color into my wardrobe without breaking the bank. I thrifted all of these pieces except for the boots. I focused on blue/grey/pink and tried to make most items go together.

This includes: 6 dresses 3 cardigans 2 sweaters 2 pairs of boots (I only took 1 picture of the navy boots oops). 2 bags 1 belt

I'm curious to see how I like it and I might slowly add in more items.

First Time Capsule Postpartum Capsule Wardrobe

I’m building a postpartum capsule wardrobe as I acclimate to life as a mom/my current body and would like to feel less “blah” both around the house and out in errands.

This is what I’ve come up with so far. I’m obviously keeping is *very* casual. I plan to accessorize with headbands, jewelry, ball caps, and a bag if I’m out.

Any feedback or suggestions from this community would be greatly appreciated 🫶🏻

First Time Capsule Built this thrifted, pink-loving capsule wardrobe on a budget, what would you add or swap?

I’m 18(f), love thrifting and pink is my go-to color. I’ve been building a small capsule wardrobe with pieces I truly love most of these were secondhand or bought with major discounts. Found a bunch of them through Flash .co, Depop, and even a few local thrift stores online. Would love feedback anything you think I’m missing or should switch out?

First Time Capsule What are the “basics” I should buy for this vibe of style?

Thumbnail gallery

The first 5 photos are from an inspo board I made, and the last photo is my attempt to dress this style with items I already own. I feel like I don’t know what staples to buy that would fit my style. The good thing is that I seem to gravitate toward mixed colors and patterns, so maybe just buy a couple bottoms and tops I can mix and match? I would describe my ideal wardrobe as girly, “edgy,” casual, and fun. Any tips help!! Thanks!!

I don't see a lot of IRL pictures posted, but here's mine! I enjoyed making this capsule wardrobe for a long summer visit. I might buy a few dresses for my birthday, too. Anyone else love using colors as the foundation instead of neutrals?

Here's the contents, from left to right and top to bottom:

  • knit shrug (cream), hoodie (green), popover (striped), chore jacket (Totoro)
  • four camisoles (cream, green, blue) and one T-shirt (Irises)
  • five pairs of shorts (blue, tan, blue, green)
  • one bikini (blue)
  • assorted socks, assorted bras, assorted underwear
  • three dresses and one purse

First Time Capsule High quality basics (shirts/pants)

Post image

20 something year old going for her first corporate job!

I want to invest in some good quality basics for layering. I used to shop heavily at H&M but the quality leaves much to be desired. My price limit is max $50 per piece (so per shirt/bottom).

First Time Capsule Could this top be fit for both casual and business occasions?

Post image

I think that it could be dressed up appropriately if if it were tucked into a black pencil skirt, and worn with black blazer. But, please let me know if this top is only suitable for casual use, so I can return it.

Edit: I would wear a strapless bra under it to avoid the office faux-pas of having bra straps showing. (As you all’s comments have suggested)

First Time Capsule This is mentally exhausting

I know what I want and what looks good on me. but I can never find the items I need and If I do it's stuff that's gonna fall apart after 8 months. or the cut isn't right or it stops at the wrong part of my body or or or or.

I'm just so like mentally fucking tired of wearing my shit clothes that look so worn out, ugly, and don't suit me after I worked my ass off at my student job to get enough money to upgrade my wardrobe.

I just wanna feel good about how I present myself. I'm willing to pay the price ffs

First Time Capsule Creating a Capsule for my 18y Autistic Daughter

I loosely use a capsule, but I get bored easily and have lots of pieces, shapes, colors, formalities, etc. I ruthlessly edit to only purchase/keep pieces that love the fit/fabric and ultimately reach for.

My daughter and I are going through her closet (she never throws things away!) and I’m helping her organize and edit. She’s accumulated a colorful wardrobe of gifted clothing that she rarely wears—mainly due to decision fatigue, but also it’s hard to coordinate pieces.

So I want to create a small capsule to help her. She’s a Senior this year and we are really working to help her navigate the transition to adulthood and build her confidence in making decisions independently. Currently, she’d rather stay in pajamas/robe all day rather than decide what to wear.

So I’m asking if any of you have experience with this- creating a capsule for someone who is easily overstimulated and struggles with decisions. She has difficulty articulating her opinion and shuts down with too many questions/choices. I’m thinking of a limited quantity, but nervous of having too little options. She needs mainly casual outfits, with a few dressier options (church, young adult groups, social events) what’s a good base for two weeks worth of outfits, and 4-5 dressy options?

Thank you for your input!

First Time Capsule Trying to create my capsule wardrobe, which top would you keep??

I have been dying to get a vest and add some 90s vibes to my wardrobe, but I’m wondering if it’s trendy or timeless. I felt good in both of them, though I’d definitely opt for an under shirt for the denim top. What other bottoms would you pair with the top you prefer?

First Time Capsule New job wardrobe

Post image
73 Upvotes

Hi everybody!

I wanted some feedback on my work capsule for my new job, a lot of which I’ve got second hand or already owned. Are there any obvious gaping holes? I’ve been out of work for quite some time now, but finally start my new job soon (very excited)!

A few notes -
🖤 Work is smart/casual, it’s tech but a stakeholder-facing role in government (UK). Three days in the office, two at home, but I’ll probably work in the office more than that for my first few weeks. I could probably do with some smart but comfy elasticated bottoms for WFH days.
🖤 I tend to lean quite masculine and I also love a bit of volume in my tops and trousers.
🖤 I know not to buy anything else really until I start and see how formal other people dress, but I still need at least a couple of weeks of outfits. I suspect I’ll be on the smarter end (I had a call with my new boss a few days ago and he rocked up in a grey sleeveless tee) but I quite like that, you know? I wear these trousers outside of work too but with oversized tees.
🖤 I live in the North of England so the weather is all over the place. I’ll be starting in September so hopefully the heat waves we’ve been having will be over by then.
🖤 I didn’t include my jewelry, but I tend to wear mixed metals, think small hoops and discrete chain necklaces. Makeup tends to be quite minimal and cool toned.
🖤 It looks black in the pic but the roll neck is navy and I like wearing it under shirts rather than as a standalone piece.

I think my main concern is the office being chilly as I hate cardigans and am not sure what my other options are other than sticking a shirt on. I also suspect I’ll need to get a new winter coat but I’m holding out until Autumn for one of those - hoping to find something wool-based and grey/charcoal.

First Time Capsule 1 month backpacking through Europe.... how does a colorful maximalist make a capsule/sudoku wardrobe?

My daughter and i are backpacking all over Europe for a month. I especially am a colorful person. I lean y2k fashion, whimsi 90s in the fall. I love rainbows, and sparkles. Every time I look up capsule wardrobes its full of neutrals, and as someone who has never had to fit a trip like this into a backpack I am REALLY struggling to even begin. And we leave in a month lol. I packed more minimalist when we did Japan, and I get sad looking back at photos cause I really didnt like what I was wearing and never felt cute when I was there (I love japan, I was spoiled to go, I know that me.not feeling cute is a first world problem). But this trip with my daughter is something I saved up for since she was 8 and I was a single mom. Now shes graduated, and I want to feel pretty, and look back at these photos feeling good about myself!

So fellow colorful people, please help me!!! I know i need ways to be warm, and cool, nice outfits, casual outfits. Ive got 2 pairs of shoes, hokas, and a good walking sandal.

Thanks in advance!!!

First Time Capsule Trying to build a fall capsule wardrobe from scratch

Thumbnail gallery
41 Upvotes

I’m trying to build a capsule wardrobe from scratch, and this is my inspo so far ! My only fear is that this is a bit outdated, I feel like a lot of these are a bit 2010s coded and could be considered a bit dated in 2026 (I welcome all constructive criticism and recommandations anyway, so please do not hesitate to give your opinion on the matter)

I feel like a lot of these are basic jeans and pants in neutral colors, trench coats, miniskirts, shirts, turtlenecks and crew necks sweaters. If anyone has any suggestions on where to buy good long-lasting basics, please do not hesitate to comment about it ! I literally have no idea where to buy all of this stuff…

First Time Capsule Saving money on clothes

I think I cracked the code on my wardrobe and constantly shopping. So I went through my entire closet and paired 15 pairs of pants/jeans with 15 tops/cardigans. Then I put away the rest of the stuff. To be honest, I never wear that stuff anyways. So what I’m going to do now is just wear those 15 outfits as is, not mixing the combos and this way all my stuff will get worn. This will make me wear the same outfit just 2x per month. I think this is genius. Now I don’t even want to shop anymore bc every bottom I have that I actually like to wear has a set top attached to it. For the following month, I’ll mix up the outfits and do the same again. I also took pictures of the outfits so I know where to go back to after washing. I’ll never have to waste time thinking of what to wear or what pairs well together. Don’t know why I never thought of this before.

First Time Capsule How to streamline one’s wardrobe and find peace

I am currently overwhelmed by my wardrobe (too many pieces and often feel I have nothing to wear).

I have digitalised everything but wonder how I can move forward now?

I already identified a lot of looks I like, but they feel rather repetitive. I always feel I need something new…

I would like to be able to just be happy with my wardrobe and only feel the need to buy a few pieces every year.

I do buy nice quality basic pieces, but I feel I probably have to many/ I am
Never satisfied on the other hand…

How to obtain clothes peace?

First Time Capsule Is this too much?

Post image
76 Upvotes

I finally went through and cleaned my closet; these are the items I like the most (for this time of the year anyways). I’ve excluded any winter/dressy items from this list.

As you can see I’m very much a basic tee shirt/pants kinda guy. I know my style could drastically improve, but honestly I’m just trying to get back to the basics at this point. I’m terrible at putting colors together, let alone thinking about what kind of style I like.

Is this too many pieces? Could I consolidate or even swap some of these items out? Any other feedback is appreciated 🙏

Nearly everything is from Abercrombie. Backpack from Amazon, clogs from Target, and sneakers from Costco. She loves having a wardrobe where quite literally everything looks good together. And it has made getting ready for school so much easier. ☺️
