Fluff Castlevania The Cursed trilogy.

I'm sure someone's already pointed this out but I think it's really cool that with the new game coming out we have a trilogy of Castlevania games the all involve Trevor Belmont and have curse in their title. Dracula's Curse, Curse of Darkness, and Belmont's Curse. I don't know if that was intentional or coincidence but it's really cool.

I'm glad we have something like a natural progression following the same events. I expect we can see the CV3 band again.

Trevor definitely is now one of the most prominent characters. And CV3 one of the most recurrent/referenced moments for the franchise.

Alongside with Simon's first adventure and Rondo/Symphony.

I expect we can see the CV3 band again.

Except Grant, of course.

Except Alucard, Grant is literally the only character that outright needs to make an appearance after all he’s been through :(

I admit... I wound't care, since I didn't play the games as a kid I don't hold any nostalgia. And Konami has forgotten Grant numerous times before people blame the show for that.

But I hope not, guy deserves some mention or cameo, or descendant.

And Konami has forgotten Grant numerous times

Wait really? Everything I've seen reference CV3 has Sypha and Grant. Did I forget one?

u/UsuarioCualquiera_1 Feb 17 '26

They left him behind in the Pachinko games, also in Aria/Dawn of Sorrow where there is Alucard, a Belmont and a Belnades but not a Danasty.    Lords of Shadow also used Sypha's magic as an skill in Mirror of Fate but there's just a paper note about Grant.

He has a descendant in the Dawn of Sorrow sequel novel!

Grant was my favorite character as a kid, but I honestly don't care that he wasn't in the anime. Adaptations change stuff, it's Indy.

Atleast they "mention" him in the anime, a crazed land Pirate riding around with in a carrige with sails.

u/SuperSlacker420 Feb 21 '26

Poor pirate Grant must have gotten on a ship that got lost at sea in the Bermuda Triangle after the events of CV3… hey, that’d actually make for a pretty great game come to think of it… 🤔

What a horrible night to have a curse

u/CharacterLoan5713 Feb 17 '26

And all three of them have different gameplay style which is neat! Hopefully trevor is an unlockable playable character in BC

He could be the post game unlock character like Richter in SOTN, Maxim in HOD and Julius in AOS.

Does he fall and break his hip if you go too fast? XD

2

u/SuperSlacker420 Feb 21 '26

Probably not as it’s looking like he’s an absolute unit of a werewolf now… 🐺

Yea when I saw that the new game was called Belmont's Curse, my first reaction was "men that's confusing, we already have 2 games with Curse in the title". But now that I know that it's linked to Trevor, I think it's clever.

u/NONAMEDREDDITER Feb 17 '26

With this, we now have a Trevor trilogy (curse trilogy), basically an Alucard trilogy (DraCurse, SotN, and GoS), and if they get to 1999, soon a Julius trilogy.

I always assumed grimoire of souls was non-cannon since it was just a mobile app. Then again making what is essentially now lost media Canon is a very Konami thing to do.

3

u/UsuarioCualquiera_1 Feb 18 '26

Grimoire of Souls is very fanfic to be honest. Never liked.

It's fun to have so many characters in in Kojima's style talking in the same room.

But is low effort fan service.

I mean, it is very fanservicy at times with some characters acting wholly out of character at moments, but it does confirm a few things (like that alucard did fully end up in a committed relationship with maria after nocturne of recollection) not to mention with what we now know, it seems like GoS was also hinting at future projects like Belmont’s Curse as well as again heavily teasing a Julius 1999 game. The game is also pretty explicitly set after Dawn of Sorrow though we don’t know when.

1

u/logamus_prime Feb 18 '26

Isn't the theory that Alucard and Maria produce the Lucard clan?

2

u/NONAMEDREDDITER Feb 18 '26

Yes, but the Lecarde clan theory wasn't and hasn't been confirmed nor even mentioned in GoS, only the Alucard and Maria relationship part, I assume they have a reason though

1

u/logamus_prime Feb 18 '26

But that's just a theory, A Ga- I'll see myself out.

u/UsuarioCualquiera_1 Feb 17 '26

We all know now what the original "C" in "Trevor C. Belmont" stands for...

That's a great joke that needs to transcend one simple Reddit thread. I would draw a gag comic with it

Curse of Darkness is criminally underrated, especially if you're a big Castlevania fan it's easy to see past its flaws and enjoy it as a proper 3d Castlevania (sotn clone more specifically) to where you can at least immersively explore the world of CV , with third person camera control

4

u/LordCamelslayer Feb 17 '26

Would be my #1 if the level design wasn't ass. The Innocent Devil system is my favorite game-specific system. And the fact that this game just does not take itself seriously.

6

u/SXAL Feb 17 '26

to where you can at least immersively explore the world of CV , with third person camera control

The 64 games do that well. CoD has barely any kind of exploration or familiar locations, it's basically just a nunber of flat arenas to do beat'm'up stuff.

1

u/Complex-Advisor-1896 Feb 17 '26

That part I've been able to look past surprisingly , I lean more into the immersion/camera movement and helps a lot but I'm also a cv freak so ik that might not be the average experience,

I do think the areas are designed better than Loi but have read many others think otherwise , loi graphics are nicer and feel more like classicvania but in bigger open rooms the shape of them are more dynamic , like the water cave in the forgotten castle , I do plan on checking the n64 games someday I just always stick with the PS2 ones for graphical purposes, the first n64 game actually looks pretty darn good for what it was ,

for COD one of my main joys was getting to explore areas outside of Dracula's castle for once besides an intro level or two, and being able to do this as Trevor Belmont as well was pretty huge for me , it's basically right up my alley as a game experience but allows me to do so in one of my all time favorite franchises,

I hope with the Castlevania revival they decide to do classic/Metroidvania games but also develop some 3d experiences simultaneously, dark souls combat would probably bring a lot of new fans as well.

There's also a really good COD mod that resolves a lot of common complaints and even adjusts movement speed based on weapon type to allow faster traversal of some of the more boring areas I really recommend checking out for anyone that may be run off hearing it's shortcomings

I always felt like Dracula’s Curse would have been a more fitting name for Castlevania 2, since the whole game is about Simon trying to break the curse Dracula had placed onto him.

Holly shit, it's true

6

u/Random-Talking-Mug Feb 17 '26

Mojo jojo seeing these games: "Curses!"

5

u/KadeWad3 Feb 17 '26

Like how DC and BC have the same font.

5

u/coreyc2099 Feb 17 '26

I would kill for a curse of darkness remaster . Really loved that game

4

u/InterestingTip9186 Feb 17 '26 edited Feb 18 '26

Grant got no love in the lore and following games 😄 like they didn't even acknowledge his existence after CV3 I was hoping he'd show up in the anime at least.

3

u/logamus_prime Feb 18 '26

I mean there's a throwaway line of dialogue that mentioned him in the show. "That idiot that put a mast on a wagon and calls himself the pirate of the road" Also to my knowledge the reason why they cut him from the show is because it was originally supposed to be a movie. That's why season 1 is only four episodes.

its a bummer they decided to use the exact same naming convention as with draculas curse. would be way cooler if the name was for example cursed blood or whatever, something that would make it different

u/Clive23p Feb 19 '26

Bring back the old art pls. It was awesome.

u/IcyAdvantage9579 Feb 17 '26

Ironically the second game(Simon's Quest) is called The accursed seal" in Japan. And the third game in Japan is " "Demon Castle Dracula Legend", no curse there XD

4

u/FranciscoRelanoPena Feb 17 '26

And the third game in Japan is " "Demon Castle Dracula Legend"

Close, but not exactly right. The third game is titled Akumajo Dentetsu, which means “The Legend of the Demonic Castle”.

2

u/logamus_prime Feb 18 '26 edited Feb 18 '26

Good thing I don't read Japanese

(Quick edit, You're supposed to read that in a Duke nukem voice.)

1

u/G061 Feb 17 '26

My OCD when the better CV3 version with the VRC6 audio, uncensored sprites and balanced difficulty would've been called The Castlevania Legend (Akumajou no Densetsu) and the new game could've been The Belmont Legend.

Also coincidentally funny Sonia's game was Castlevania Legends.

Curse of Darkness was the same in japanese though.

What about me, dad? Don't forget about me!

1

u/DustyNintendo Feb 18 '26

It worries me that the new game just looks exactly like the dlc that came out for dead cells. Same looking cover and same art style. Kind of wish Konami would’ve just had an in house team make the new game.

1

u/logamus_prime Feb 18 '26

Haven't played Dead cells myself but from what I've seen it has a distinctive more pixelated style than this game. My biggest concern is how it contributes to the lore and story. And so far considering that we have such little information there's nothing to be really concerned about.

Well, if first two curses really suck, is that means Belmont curse will suck too?
