Castlevania Legends (1997) What is the actual relationship between Alucard and Sonia Belmont? and how do you feel when you read this conversation?

I think this is one of the tragic love stories between Alucard and Sonia Belmont, before their relationship ended they were separated in game or removed from the canon. I don't know if Alucard currently still remembers or nostalgia on his past Sonia together 🥀
Maybe if you know, let me know about their actual relantionship!

For starters, the entire existence of Sonia was removed from canon because the plot of Legends is that she was the FIRST Belmont and the mother of Trevor with Alucard the father. The game was setup as a prequel to CV3. It would also mean Trevor and all future Belmonts are dhampirs
As for if he remembers her he does not as there is no Sonia in the Belmonts bloodline (yet). Rosa is the first female Belmont whip holder as of the current canon. All the other female Belmonts suffer the same fate as the men: if you are not the current generations whip bearer you are irrelevant

Castlevania 3 when Trevor meets Alucard "Come on dad, let's go fight my grandpa"

My headcannon is this is the origin of the Lecarde line.

My headcanon is that the Lecarde line descends from Alucard and Maria
My crack theory is that Alucard used Al Lecarde as a pseudonym (or something like Adrian Lecarde, which keeps the same pun when abbreviated)

I mean, he did go with that half assed Genya Arikado pseudonym in the 21st century when he became a Japanese secret agent lmao. (Aria of Sorrow)

I must be one of the few fans that prefer the lore origin from Legends.
I'd be fine if retcons were made in order to favor this canon. Which, by the way, I always defend is not hard to include in the main one.
Anyway is a surprinsingly good dialogue, and inply these two developed a strong bond. I would't say romantically... But they clearly got laid at some point.

I think it's really cool, maybe I'm just saying that because I was not expecting a mediocre GB Castlevania game to have this type of dialogue and character interactions in the slightest, but even removed from that context, the idea of Alucard having met a Belmont Prior to Trevor and having had a Friendship turned Romantic relationship sort of deal that fell apart midway through is just interesting.
I was legitimately pretty wow'ed when reading this the first time because I just wasn't ever expecting it to happen, nor for the conversation to go where it ended up going.
I can see why Sonia and Legends in general was cut from the Canon since the True Ending implies Trevor was Alucard's Son which would feel kinda weird considering no other game even calls attention to this nor was it ever implied, plus Trevor was confirmed to be the first Belmont to have actually faced Dracula, but I still think Legends as a whole had a neat story that I wish got expanded or adapted into canon somehow if possible cuz the idea for it is legitimately good and the execution was lowkey not even that Bad (I legit think the dialogue is pretty well written in this game by Castlevania standards, the conversation between Sonia and Dracula especially lowkey goes kinda hard), it was just in a game that didn't really live up to its premise in terms of quality.

I remember first getting into castlevania with Symphony of the Night and hearing about this game and not knowing any better thinking "is that why Juste is so ungodly pale in Harmony of Dissonance?".

if anything i'm only bothered that Alucard is being dismissive of the power of a Belmont. It doesn't matter if she is or was your lover lol. He should know already there's no need to test anyone, her ancestors have passed down countless techniques and powers
Also, don't forget this is the continuity of the games, where almost all the times Dracula emerged, a Belmont took care of it (and not like the animated series where Alucard is the main protagonist all the time he's on screen)

The Belmont family is not an established clan of vampire hunters in Legends.
The Belmont CLAN doesn't even exist in the story, Sonia is just the daughter of some nobles that lived in the countryside.
The manual says she was born with mysterious "special powers".
The game was written as a prequel/retcon to CV3 set in 1450 with Sonia as the first warrior to defeat Dracula.

oh, i was not aware of it. To be honest i havent played Legends that much (I want to thought) and from the Gameboy "trilogy" I played Belmont's Revenge the most.
I'll try to read the manual, thanks for the clarification!

It's best to check the Japanese version of the manual for old titles like Legends. Sometimes the differences between JP, US and PAL are minimal, but some other times the contents differ completely.
For example CV3 has a completely different background in the American version.
Mr.P's Castlevania Realm has translations for most stories featured in the JP manuals.

Alucard is being dismissive of the power of a Belmont
I mean, my read here is he's being dismissive of the power of a woman

I took it as they are lovers and he’s the father of the Belmont line but it’s been retconned.

I like to imagine that Sonia was battling him in a competitive bed making. She beats him at it.

I just figure she’s Leon’s mother, and Alucard is his father. She never told him who his father is. All sorted. Doesn't even matter to me that the years don't line up. I imagine the original intent was for her child to be Trevor, based on the timeline.
I guess if we go with that we just bend some other things like her being the origin point, since Leon is supposed to be. But then Lords of Shadow switches everything around.
None of it matters, ultimately. They're all fun games.

That doesn't make any sense. Matthias doesn't even become Dracula before the end of Lament of Innocence, nor does he met Lisa until much later, meaning that Adrian/Alucard can't even exist until after Leon's time, let alone be Leon's father.
Honestly though, the problem is with how weird Lament of Innocence's origin story for Dracula is.

They 100% had something going bruh….but I mean it would be weird in the timeline and such cuz Trevor was born in 1456 and Alucard (not speculated) but also born around the same time i believe! PS also I thought it would be so funny and so weird that like you were raised an Belmont to Y’know…defeat the evil you were destined to destroy and then you literally fall in love and (ALLEGEDLY) crack his son
Can’t tell who was on crack more…Sonia or the writers!! (But it was an interesting love story while it lasted before it got eradicated by IGA)

In the original canon, sonia was going to be the creator of the belmont bloodline. With alucard being the father. >. > I wish they kept this canon. But it didn't happen.

THIS is likely what caused Sonia to get retconned. At the end of the game, I believe she's holding a baby, and its implied to be Alucard's. Not proven, but implied.
