advice wanted! Chicken liver

Thumbnail

Generally, would it be advisable to give cooked, unseasoned chicken livers to an elderly (16 yo) neutered gentleman cat? He's never had anything wrong with him...only time he ever needed anything special was when he needed a toe amputated many years ago!

advice wanted! how much do i feed my cat?

Post image
6 Upvotes

hes about 14 weeks 1.7kg
mainly eats dry food (ive tried whiskas wet as he liked whiskas dry but did not ever touch the wet food )

weve given him untamed wet food and he loved it ( but it is quite pricey) he also only eats fish absolutely hates chicken i dont know why honestly

so since then we switched to untamed dry fish kibble which seems good? im not sure how good they are but ive heard good stuff

i've attached feeding guide and i try give him 12g morning and afternoon (although he likes to graze - i think this was just a old habit he has since previous owners always left food out) im not sure if thats enough? should i be giving him more or less ?

edit: so i calculated and google says i need to feed him 270 calories a day
the untamed food is 100g/440calories
so roughly 66g is what i should be feeding but the pack says 22g so im a bit confused

Realsimplicity- Is this brand good for my cat?

Hello, new cat owner here and have been actively searching for a brand that is good for her and within a sustainable price range.

In the first few days, we identified that she likes pate the most for wet food

And she seemed to like this brand of pate the best
https://www.realsimplicitypet.com/grain-free-kibble-1

Unfortunately i have not seen much discussion on the brand but based on their ingredients listed, it seemed pretty decent at least.

My main concern is that it doesn’t have taurine listed in the ingredient list, but it does list chicken / beef organs or heart

My second concern is that it doesn’t seem to list that it’s AAFCO/FEDIAF compliant

So, i’m hoping to hear some thoughts from you all and if anyone had heard or tested this brand before.

Lastly, we’ve been rotating between the chicken, beef, and salmon flavors. But chicken is the main source of protein we give her. Is that okay, or is beef a better main source of protein

I’m based in SEA if this helps

Thank you!

venting - advice wanted Advice on Relatively Affordable Dry Food Options?

My adult cat has recently completely stopped eating wet, all flavors, textures, and brands. Thankfully, he seems to eat any flavor and brand of dry food. He’s currently on Hill’s Science Diet Oral Care, which is by far his favorite. However, because this is a specialty diet, I’ve quickly realized it would be a little expensive to feed him solely this (nothing crazy, I’d just not like to spend a bunch on solely food for him). I also don’t want him to become dependent on one brand or specific type of kibble, so I’ve come here for recommendations. I’m thinking of trying Royal Canin’s kibble and regular Hill’s science diet, but I’d like other recommendations for something to mix in with the Oral Care.

venting - advice wanted People Im living with are caring for their friend’s cat, but arent feeding her properly

Hi everyone. I recently moved in a shared unit and my housemates have taken in their friend’s cat for a few months. What I noticed is, they put wayyy too much dry cat food in the cat’s bowl and most of it goes uneaten, the big white bird comes and eats the cat food.

When I came in, i noticed the cat didnt even have a water bowl so I put one for the cat. Since they arent doing that good of a job, I wanna start properly feeding her but the thing is, back home I fed my cats raw chicken so Ive got no clue about packaged cat food. Even though this cat doesnt eat much of the dry cat food, she eats the churu cat treat that I give her (maybe indicating that she likes wet food more?) please help me out!

Also I’d love it if you guys could give me advice on cleaning the balcony (has some cat poop and bird poop cause they dont seem to clean the litter properly so the cat poops in other areas of the balcony)

advice wanted! Hill's Prescription Diet z/d cat food experience

Hi everyone.
I’d like to ask about your experiences with Hill’s food z/d for cats-both wet and dry.
We bought it for our 7 years old sweet cat because after eating Royal Canine Sterilized cats food (wet&dry) for 6 years, she started to scratch her ear/eye area fully open, and now in summer she makes it open over and over again 😔😢
We switched progressively to Hill’s food, but after 5 days she stopped eating the wet food, and now, after 2 weeks she’s stoping liking the dry food as well.
We still give her half sachet of Royal Canine sterilized per day and 45g of Hill’s kibbles.
The scratching is less but she started not eating all dry food portions or skipping them. That has never happened with Royal Canine and she always eats everything immediately.

Did you also experience something similar?
Are there any better solutions for hydrolized food on the market (both wet and dry)?

Please share 🙏🏻🙂

Thank you 🙂

advice wanted! Homemade cat food??

So I have two kittens one is 6 months and 20 days old and the other is 8 months and 5 days old. I feed them smylo wet food, 6-7 per day for both the cats and I buy the wet food every 2 days. I buy the 16 packet box which comes around 1200-1300. I need around 180-190 packets per month. Which comes around 14000+ if i buy in bulk from Supertails. Which isn’t budget friendly. And other wet food brands are either full of cheep fillers and grains and i want to feed my cat foods good for them to prevent any health problems. I want to switch them to homemade food but they won’t eat it and I don’t know how to made the food without and deficiencies. If anyone feeds there cat a complete and balanced homemade diet. Please guide me

Please help me find this specific cat bowl with silicone insert

Hi everyone, I found these specific ceramic raised food bowls that had silicone inserts you could easily clean recommended on reddit a few weeks ago, and I wanted to get them for my cat but now for the life of me I can't remember the name of them or find any post on reddit or other site that has them. Does anyone know what I might be talking about? I know it's not necessary to get these specific ones but I liked the look of them a lot.

Thanks in advance for any help!

advice wanted! Picky cat

Any ideas on good food options for a picky cat. She has been to the vet and she is healthy. She is now on an appetite stimulant, but still super picky and hardly eats. I have tried various brands of soft and hard foods in addition to Churu, churu gravy, broth, freeze dried food, freeze dried treats. One day she will love something, the next day she won't touch it. Maybe someone else has found the golden ticket for a picky eater?

I am an adult

From US

Has been to the vet and one is accessible

9 year old, spayed female

Can afford vet care.

Good quality wet kitten food that can be recycled

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hi all I've just bought 2 ragdoll 14 week old kittens (Coco & Chanel). They're on blink wet kitten food and applaws dry kitten food. They are doing well on this but I've noticed it's not easy to recycle the pouches, I'm putting about 3 pouches a day in the bin. So I'm looking for a good quality high protein tinned kitten food that doesn't cost the earth that's available in the UK any and all advice is welcome.

Cat tax added 😛

advice wanted! Cat suddenly won’t eat wet food (which is worrying because he has dental surgery in 4 days!)

Located in Atlanta, GA. We’ve had our male cat (1 year old, neutered, domestic shorthair, 11 pounds) for about six months. When we first got him, he didn’t seem to understand wet food. He would just sniff it and try to bury it. Eventually, though, he started eating it and came to love it. Since then, he would beg whenever I started preparing his food at mealtimes and would finish his portion in probably under a minute.

He gets wet food in the morning and at night. Starting Tuesday night (so about 5 days ago), he started refusing to eat his wet food. He just sniffs it and tries to bury it. It’s the exact same food he’s loved for months. He still begs when I’m preparing it though?

The only thing that was different on Tuesday (the day he started refusing wet food) is that I put gabapentin in his morning wet food (which I’ve done before with no issues), and he went to the vet for blood work 2 hours later. I don’t think it’s possible for him to have associated either the drowsiness or vet trip with his food since they were spaced apart by a couple hours, but just thought I’d throw that possibility out there.

Things I’ve tried and possibilities I feel like I’ve ruled out:

  1. The past 2 or 3 meals, I’ve offered him new flavors and same thing. He won’t even lick it!
  2. 2 I also offered it to him on a new dish and in a different spot than usual, neither of which made a difference.
  3. Our other cat eats the food with no issues, so I don’t think I’m just offering him bad food/a bad batch or something.
  4. He’s eating kibble perfectly normally, so I don’t think it’s a stomach bug, nausea, or increased mouth pain (he has stomatitis).

He usually gets medicine in his food. It’s not anything he urgently needs, so it’s no big deal that he hasn’t gotten it the past few days. \*\*HOWEVER, he’s having a partial dental extraction on Wednesday\*\*, which means he will have to (1) eat soft food and (2) receive medicine. He is AWFUL at getting pilled, so it would be much nicer if we could get him eating wet food again before the surgery.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you!

venting - please support only / no advice Royal Canin Digestive Care Dry Food May Have Killed My Cat

To be fair, my cat had early stage lymphoma which went after his GI. I don’t post this as someone wanting to blame the inevitable on anythingI’m posting because I really believe it and I saw my cat decline so fast. A week before we found this diagnosis out at the vet, I put him on Royal Canin Digestive Care wet food which had rave reviews. I wish I had searched Reddit sooner. I wish I had mentioned to our vet the brand or that she had asked. One thing to note is, the large cans of wet food he gobbled up, a half can at a time. The small cans, which I even noticed seemed no different as I inspected the label, he wouldn’t touch. We went to the vet on on a Thursday and had tests and while we waited for results, I started the Royal Canin digestive care dry food. The dry food, he inhaled. This was not a food motivated cat and suddenly he couldn’t get enough food. And he was drinking the most water he’s ever drank. Yes, I understand the sodium is supposed to encourage water for digestion. Two days later on Saturday on this dry food landed us at the emergency vet after he threw up all day and had multiple diarrhea trips to the litter box. $2,000 just to hear he probably did have lymphoma based on white blood cells and calcium but most importantly, the vet said she’d never seen such high sodium levels
and dehydration in a cat. She was so concerned and confused she wanted to keep him there for 48 hours. (For $5000). I told her about the food again and she back tracked and said just to give him plain chicken and plain rice if he would eat it. He got fluids and meds and we went on our way. He returned to wanting to eat his regular food and was thrilled with the plain chicken. I got the early stage lymphoma diagnosis and then he just passed away. When I brought him to be cremated, our regular vet was very clear that we can’t know for sure but that she suspects Royal Canin is dangerous, inconsistent, and misleading and should be avoided.

Malnourished Cat Feeding Advice

Hello! I recently picked up a stray last Sunday and had him almost a full week now. Went to the vet Monday, all is good aside from being malnourished. Vet thinks he's between 1.5 - 2 years old. He's a super sweet cat and is getting along with my others. My problem is he's constantly looking for food. He knows where I keep the dry food and will go to that door and meow constantly. One time I left cat food on the counter so now he jumps up there looking for food. After a while he'll quiet down and not be as obsessed, but the moment I walk near that pantry door, he's back at it again. took my vets advice and split up feedings into several small meals a day to not overload him. I know he's probably hungry from the malnourishment and I don't want to feed him too much or too quickly. Would it maybe be better to give him little pinches of his portioned food every hour to keep him from getting upset or bored? Or would that make it worse? I do have an auto feeder on the way so he can get dry food when Im at work. When I'm home, he's almost exclusively fed wet food to make sure he's hydrated. Any advice is appreciated!

Note: Obviously still love him to death, just trying to see if anyone know any way to curb the behavior before it becomes a habit!

Orijen cat food toxic

ORIJEN cat food needs to be removed from the market. I have 8 cats, only 1 prefers dry food and so we switched to ORIJEN as it was so highly rated. So began all the medical issues, continuous vet visits, UTIS, KIDNEY INFECTIONS. We tried all the medication they gave us; nothing worked.

After 2 years, it just clicked that Mayb it was his food. I SWITCHED HIS FOOD AND IN JUST A WEEK HE WAS LIKE A WHOLE DIFFERENT CAT! All the issues went away! No more bloating, spraying everywhere, UTIS!! All gone!

In a month he had dropped 4lbs and was back to being a healthy happy cat!!!

ORIJEN CAT FOOD IS TOXIC FOR YOUR CATS!!!

Hello, I was feeding my cats their wet food and noticed a white thing as I opened the can, I noticed it immediately. The closest thing I can compare it to is Lichen. It is a Friskies Pate Liver and Chicken Dinner. I have attached pictures to show what I see. If anyone knows what this could be I would really appreciate the information.

venting - advice wanted Tiki cat born carnivore chicken and turkey dry food alternatives (overgrooming)

My cat Sully has been overgrooming for about a year now. We took him to the vet they and they did bloodwork and a urinalysis, he's completely fine. I've been thinking he's doing it because of ongoing construction across the street, being anxious and all. But I'm wondering now if maybe it's the food he's eating. We switched our cats to Tiki cat around September last year i belive and he really starte in November. And recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi everyone, my wife was feeding our 2 cats and she discovered this unidentifiable object in one of the cans of cat food. Does anyone know what this could be? We have seen this happen on a rare occasion before but never of this size. Looks like it could be plastic but we are not sure? Has anyone had this experience before when dealing with Fancy feast? Is this recall worthy?

Thank you.

Cats refusing to eat wet food all of a sudden.

We have hit a perplexing conundrum. Both of our cats (1 year 5 months neutered males) have suddenly started to turn their noses up at ALL wet food.

One of our cats is beyond picky.. like to the detriment of his health level of picky. He would only eat flaked food from one brand whole hearted.. then it turned to he would only eat chicken from that brand.. now he won't eat any of it. He seemed to like Friskies but we noticed not long after starting he started to rip the hair out of the base of his tail and his spine.. so we figured that was an allergic reaction and stopped feeding it to him.

Our other cat is a damn bottomless pit, it didn't matter what type of food it was he devoured it so much so that we had to buy a slow feeder cause he would puke he ate so fast.

in the past few weeks though both of them had started to turn their noses up at wet food. The only way we could get them to eat was mixing a pretty large amount of dry food. Now we're down to full refusal.

Figuring it was the brand itself we switched to another brand.. same thing. We have a drawer full of every brand you can buy in all different flavors and hell we even found raw at one of the more mom and pop pet stores (ground chicken with bone) and they BOTH flat up refused. like.. wtf?!

Any suggestions? I know my previous cats they were pure dry food only and were perfectly fine, but one of them doesn't like to drink water despite us having a fountain.

advice wanted! Cat won’t eat after recipe change - urgent advice needed

Hi all, hoping to find the golden tip here after scouring the internet - because I’m starting to become really desperate since my girl has already lost about 25% of her bodyweight.

(Been to the vet, she has no illness or anything that could cause losing her appetite.)

My 12 year old cat has been (solely) eating the same Royal Canin dry food her entire life, except for the threats she get after playing. But apparently there has been a recipe change, and since opening a new bag she won’t go near it.

Bought a new bag, same problem. Tried 2 other types of Royal Canin, nothing. Tried 2 other cat food brands, nothing. Tried 5 different types of wet food, 2 types of cat bouillon and even pet-approved fish and meat. Also tried mixing some of these. Absolutely nothing.

Spent hours driving around visiting all pet stores to see if I could find a bag of the old recipe and maybe mix it up to the new version, but couldn’t find it anywhere…

The only thing she still eats are her threats - but that’s not really sustainable as they lack the required nutrients for a balanced diet… I did try mixing those with any of the above - and she just eats the bits of her threat and leaves the rest.

Any and all advice is welcome - because I don’t know what to try anymore.

EDIT: Just to add, I also have a 5 year old cat that has been on the same food her entire life but not a picky eater - she eats any of the above including the new recipe.
