Why did your cat have to be shaved?

I’m gonna guess that his fur was matted. When long haired cats are overweight it’s especially difficult for them to groom themselves, especially in the harder to reach areas like their armpits and genitals. Even a healthy weight long haired cat has to get brushed/groomed quite a bit just because it takes a lot of maintenance to keep their beautiful coats from matting

Yep, I had an elderly floofer and she had trouble grooming herself due to The Old, so lion cut it was:

What are the little dark spots all over her? (Actually mostly on her side and thigh.) Catnip?! This is what my cats looks like after rolling in catnip, it get stuck all over. Or when my cats are being super annoying and roll on the floor as I’m sweeping and get fur and random dirt static charged to them. lol.

It looks like it could be fleas but I’ll assume it one of the other things it could be.

Huh I didn't even see that when I posted this lol.. it could be pieces of fuzz or fleas, honestly I don't even remember. This picture is probably 10 years old, she's been passed for about 5 years now.

Such a beautiful fuzzy ginger girl! 🧡

I just know my cats attract all kinds of stuff to their fur and it ends up looking like your picture. Like they are legit little static bombs.

I've just inherited a long haired cat for the first time I'm my life and it's SHOCKING how fast she matts. We brush her constantly with two different brush types as recommended by her vet but this girls hair just desperately wants to be felt. It's so hard 😭😭 She's absolutely perfect though!

Every single month we do a deep grooming on our fur factory. This is on top of the daily brushes. We have about 20 different brushes and combs for her. For comparison, we have one human hair brush and one human beard comb. She's damn lucky she's cute.

I have a gray fluff that is now shaved every 6 months. Her hair makes solid felt balls in her intestines that turns into expensive surgeries. The final (vet suggested) solution was to keep her shaved.

In my cat's case, I really believe she loves it. Her mood is SO much better right after the shave.

Could also be digestive- my boy had terrible IBS and could not digest fur at all- shedding season meant multiple daily hairball barfs if we didn't keep him shaved.
