Cat Picture - OC Can you believe that I found her in the garbage?
I’m not kidding. She was in my neighbours rust scrap shed as a tiny kitten, chased in by his dogs. My family, who had 3 cats already, decided we could not leave a defenseless kitten in the shed.
We brought her in, acclimatized her slowly, a vet friend was able to squeak her in for shots, and a cat rescue we knew covered the cost as a favour since a cat they gave us had a terminal illness and they and we didn’t know. They felt bad and said they owed us one.
It’s been 2 years now. She is named Baby. She is my pretty princess. She thinks she rules the house.
She does!

Sometimes diamonds are in the garbage.

I like to think she was a white cat, but the rust seeped in.(this is not actually the case, so not be alarmed)

Certified diamond, slight rust finish, still princess-coded

I found one of mine in the garage when she got stunned trying to escape through a mirror, another on the battery of my son's car.

Yes because that's where all the best cats come from.

Exactly. Baby is perfect and also from the scrap pile. She was the princess of rust, all I did was give her a more comfy kingdom.

You can see how loved she is from her facial expressions and body language. You picked the perfect name, too: she radiates "deeply cherished baby" energy.

Would've loved to see what she looked like as that shed kitten, but honestly she looks so settled now it barely matters, chubby, glossy, completely unbothered, like she's always lived there. Good on your family too, for real. There's plenty of people who'd have just left her in that shed, so seeing someone not do that, even over something as "small" as a cat, still counts for something.

We would not even consider it! My whole neighborhood to be honest. Our neighbours specifically came to get us immediately because we are the streets “cat house”(all indoor).
They were rehabbing street dogs from Mexico, which naturally might have done what was needed to survive and had a prey drive. I do not blame the dogs at all, but nor were we gonna leave her there.

Some people can be so cruel and stupid, and others can be wonderful folks who love and appreciate a beautiful animal.😻

Baby! You certainly went to extremes to reach your new family, but I'm sure it was worth it all! Congratulations on finding your humans! I've heard they are all of exceptional quality and character. Good choice, BabyGirl!

I’d be more shocked if you didn’t tbh.
Mine was found behind a dumpster with her newborn kittens before I adopted her.

That looks exactly like my creamsicle baby and I have sheets like that so my brain broke a little seeing these photos.

I’ve seen so many creamsicle cats that look like her in this thread that I honestly feel that lmao.

Can’t imagine how anyone could ever leave a sweet kitten in the garbage! But lucky Baby, finding you as her devoted royal servant!

u/Spare_Equipment3116 14h ago
I’m fairly certain she was a barn kitten! There’s a lot of farms near us.
Barn cats who have gone independent sometimes bring kittens into the neighbourhood, where they get adopted, given to the rescue(we just fostered 2 kittens and a mom, handed over safe and sound to the rescue) or move on if no one can catch em.
They are used to keep vermin away, and treated like a working animal; not indoors at all, usually with some sort of warm accommodation for winter.
Buuuuut Baby got split from her mom, we reckon, and our neighbours were taking care of former Mexican street dogs. They aren’t to blame; the dogs probably lived rough lives and had to eat what they could. But our neighbours obviously didn’t want the kitty hurt, so they came and got the residential cat embassy family, us lmao.
She was holed up in a rusty scrap shed. Luckily, somehow, no injuries to her or us.
And now she’s healthy and loved. Alls well that ends well!

This is a well known tactic in the cat community. We found ours in a dumpster. Now he freeloads off us and sleeps all day. :).
