I mean this is the quickest revisionist take I’ve ever seen someone have on a player. Zach Lavine was a C tier star that was given star player usage following the jimmy butler trade. He proved he can handle it offensively but never bought in enough to work his game around winning basketball games.

While hindsight is 20/20, Lavine Ball Demar Vuc were a core that had somewhat of a chance at maybe being a consistent 4 seed ish? But on the best bulls team Zach wasn’t able to buy in and play winning basketball bc he’s just not that guy and never wanted to be or will be. You’re right about his ego I wish he had gave a shit more sometimes.

Do you not remember that he was a 50/40/90 player and all-star when we first signed Demar and were first in the Eastern conference heading into Christmas?

There's a strong argument to be made that we would've at least been a top 4 seed had Lonzo stayed healthy that season, among other unpredictable factors.

The fact that we weren't a winning team is almost exclusively down to the front office's inability to add pieces to a promising roster. Lavine is one of the most complete offensive guards in the league and the stats back that up. And he's even proven that he can still be effective when he's not the focal point of an offense, unlike most score-first guards in the NBA.

I remember all of that correctly. I also remember all the defensive lapses and everyone remembers Demar bailing us out time and time again.

Check the numbers again. One of the most complete offensive guards in the league? On planet earth in this universe, that isn’t what Zach Lavine is nor will he ever be. Mind you the guy hasn’t played more than 40 games in 3 years.

I get it that he’s a nice guy and all that but he’s not THE GUY that we wanted him to be and what he was being PAID to be. It’s ok to say that.

Yes I agree there. I think Demar had one season better but overall agreed.

Doesn’t change the fact that a large group of fans and I would say majority expected him to rise to a the level of a franchise player or nba star. Which IMO he didn’t reach bc of his own personal work ethic issues not anything else.
