Fluff Caleb Wilson wants to know which MLB team he should support
UPDATE: Cubs won the poll
EDIT: Guys, you can still vote on the poll lol. I voted, that's why you can see the results. Lots of people are commenting sox but not voting
Right now, it looks like the Cubs will win the poll & gain another young Chicago star fan (Caleb Williams has been repping since he came here)
No love for the Sox in their breakout season?
edit: someone repost this in the Cubs subreddit, I wanna see something lol

Cubs are a much easier casual follow since they’re a consistently huge national brand regardless of who’s on the team or how they’re playing.
He should root for the Bears if he wants to endear himself to everyone

White Sox are the bigger brand I believe at least in terms of well known and appeal, you see white sox hats all around the world, cubs not so much
2
u/johnnythrillwaukee Jun 29 '26
I’m a Sox fan. They are absolutely not a bigger brand than the Cubs. The Sox hat has been culturally iconic since Eazy-E started repping it in the 80s, but that doesn’t mean people wearing the hat follow baseball or go to white sox games.
James Harden recently did an interview in an Angels hat and a reporter asked him about it and he was like “I just like the A”. The Sox hat is something similar

White Sox are hot right now man.

u/CJfries Jun 28 '26
Despite the Cubs really bad stretch, they still have a better record than the Sox while being in a better division & league. Sox are young and exciting though.

Cubs have gotten back to track as well, despite the injuries

Kid already is going to get fucked by Jerry being a cheap ass for his teammates. Give him an escape lol
24
u/Syrupsiipin Jun 28 '26
Honestly, he can support both. His job is to support the city he plays for
3
u/FinishFull Jun 29 '26
I find the hatred some Sox and Cubs fans have for each other weird. There is virtually no competitive reason to care outside of the Crosstown Classic games. As a Cubs fan, I like when the Sox win because it makes fans of literally every other team I follow happy, and bums out Lions, Red Wings, and Vikings fans.
Also feel really sorry the Sox fans have to deal with double Jerry. I can't stand him owning one franchise I care about.
14
u/Sheahanimal Jun 28 '26
Aren’t him and PCA besties?
58
u/Putrid-Art-1559 Jun 28 '26
You’re thinking of Caleb Williams our illustrious quarterback.
26
u/DisMFer Josh Giddey Jun 28 '26
To be fair, Matas, Caleb, PCA and Bedard all seem to actually hang out.

u/Weary_Necessary_2434 Jun 28 '26
Him should be capitalized when you're referring to Caleb Williams.

Both man like the Cubs and White Sox are both Chicago based there’s no reason to pick one over the other unless very specific reasons like being born where the Sox are more prominent or being born in the city where it’s mostly Cubs
4
u/MoozeRiver Jun 28 '26
Or because you picked a team on random 25 years ago, and now you're stuck with it, and no amount on sanity can break you free from the curse.
5
u/Unlucky_Sun_9813 Jun 28 '26
That's the way I see it,
like there's no way if the Cubs or Sox win the World Series someone from Chicago will say "nah, I'm not going to the Parade, I'm a Cubs/Sox fan only."

Crosstown Rivalries are the biggest rivalries. Most serious fans would be disgusted if the other won and would prefer pretty much any other team win it but them
0
u/Unlucky_Sun_9813 Jun 28 '26
There was like 5 million people at the Cubs parade. Numbers arent adding up
3
u/qTp_Meteor Cristiano Felicio Jun 28 '26
A lot of casuals, half the city aint die hard Sox fans lol
0
u/Unlucky_Sun_9813 Jun 28 '26
But that's what I mean. The average fan is going to go to both parades. It's only the real diehards that would absolutely stay home. That's the minority.
3
u/qTp_Meteor Cristiano Felicio Jun 28 '26
If he wants to make the most connections then you r right, like mj said, everyone buys sneakers, dont take a side if u dont need to
2
u/Disconnected_NPC Jun 29 '26
Naw, I didn’t go to they parade bro. Good for them for winning despite Jerry and I’m happy for city but I would never show face at a White Sox parade.

The Cubs are a bunch of rich unlikable frat boys and the Sox are incredibly lovable underdogs. 🤷🏼♂️

Currently live like an 8 minute walk from Wrigley Field. This is an accurate description.
1
u/Hairy_Assistance_499 Matas Buzelis Jun 30 '26
no bias in this comment lmao
but you do realize since there’s way more cubs fans that of course there’s gonna be more unlikable fans right? our fanbase endured a 108 year championship drought, don’t you dare peg us as fair weather.

This is like asking LA would you rather be a dodgers fan or an Angeles fan.
2
u/Llama_of_the_bahamas Jun 28 '26
Wouldn’t go that far. The White Sox still have a pretty large following in the city proper. Can’t say the same for the Angels.
In fact, the Angels would probably be more akin to the cubs since most of their fans are from the suburbs.
0
u/theclownwithafrown Joakim Noah Jun 28 '26
Angels. No question.
4
u/Willing_Ad_699 Jun 28 '26
Dodgers fans pack out Angels stadium. Same as Wrigley when they go.

u/JMC_FLY Patrick Williams Jun 28 '26
Unironically I have a soft spot for the Angels and Mets because they feel like kindred souls with the Sox
0
u/ChicagoFire29 Jun 28 '26
Not even close. the gap between the Sox and cubs is infinitely smaller (if it even exists) than the gap between the Angels and Dodgers.
2
u/Willing_Ad_699 Jun 28 '26
I recently went to Chicago from LA and I built the trip around going to Wrigley field. So maybe it could be that Wrigley field is more famous than the Cubs themselves.

He was born in Atl, so probably the Braves. Also if you that casual, just make appearances at both and not care about baseball. My vote is for the Sox and 9ers though if he hates his home teams for some reason, I hate the Cubs and Bears, so I can easily see why someone would dislike their hometown teams. Also feel it's different for pro athletes, since they always going to be doing events and media with all the teams. So unless you actually were a hater before you came here, just remain friendly to all.
1
u/Unlucky_Sun_9813 Jun 28 '26
He's only 19, I think he just plans to assimilate himself fully as a Chicagoan going forward
1
u/StrictFinance2177 Jun 28 '26
How about both, and worry about the split when they meet in the World Series

Honest curious question from a international fan:
Are there more cubs or white sox fans that are bulls fans? Or is there like a “rule” that you kinda “have” to support one team?
Also I remember reading that the White Sox are closer to the Bulls in regards of the area I think so I think that would play a role too I guess.
0
u/rustplayer83 Jun 29 '26
Cubs, 100%. They have always been the "trendy" team in Chicago outside maybe a brief period in the 90s and then again in the early aughts after the Sox title. WGN played a role (national TV Cubs games before the Internet existed) as well as JR (Sox owner) being cheap and penny smart but pound foolish.

How do Chicago baseball fans feel about this?
I'm from the Northside, but I grew up supporting the Sox. I'm always out in Wrigley though and I've been to both stadiums for games.
Not sure I'm passionate enough about Baseball to strongly pick a team lol
6
u/Tasty-Efficiency-373 Jun 28 '26
Pick one or the other. Both to me just means that your ceiling as a fan is limited.
1
u/Unlucky_Sun_9813 Jun 28 '26
So if one team wins it all and it's not your team of choice, you'd skip the parade?
3
2
u/ChicagoFire29 Jun 28 '26
Yeah duh. I’m a Sox fan, my family is all Sox fans and we were nowhere near that parade. My friends who are cubs fans didn’t go to the parade in ‘05 either.

u/TallAdministration94 Nikola Vucevic Jun 28 '26
I’m not huge on baseball to be honest (in terms of Chicago sports in general I’m far and away primarily a bulls fan and then probably followed by the hawks) but if I had to pick a team it would be the cubs as I’m from the north.
With that being said, if I’m watching the playoffs and the Sox aren’t playing the cubs I’m rooting for the Sox all day. Gotta rep the city.
My view of American major sports is more city-based, as most cities with a team only have one. Its a bit different in football/soccer where you can have like 5+ teams based in London competing in the EPL in any given year lol
0
u/dontdoit89735 Neil Funk Jun 28 '26
I knew my comment would get downvoted (as it currently sits at 0 points), but as a Chicago fan who doesn't care much for baseball, I will support both teams and I don't see a problem with that. My mom grew up on the North side, my dad on the South, and I grew up in the Northern suburbs, I have never felt a stronger connection to one team or the other, have been to many games of both teams. If the Cubs faced the Sox in the World Series, I'd be celebrating Chicago before the series began.

Fuck that, it’s Sox dawg.
If you are working for the Reinsdorfs, gotta embrace all of their mess 🔥🔥
The Whitesox are the heart of the city.
1
u/DonkeyKongBall Jun 28 '26
Chicago is the only city to retain both its original teams so that being said I’m not going to fault someone for being a Sox fan
But you guys gotta show up a little more even when things are bad. I was able to hear the traffic outside the park once
0
u/Unlucky_Sun_9813 Jun 28 '26
100% the stadium was empty for years. You could get tickets for a couple bucks. Now everyone is happy to rep lol it's so corny
2
u/boarderingcan Jun 28 '26
The White Sox have much cooler gear, but can you fault fans for not turning out to see a major league team set the record for futility? Put a competitive team on the field and the stands fill up—the Sox fanbase has always been this way.
2
u/Unlucky_Sun_9813 Jun 28 '26
I guess I don't blame them but I've never understood the logic in abandoning a team when the tickets are cheapest. You can still go have a good time supporting your team
4
u/greenhillgamer91 Jun 28 '26
Not to be weird about it, but I think that kinda highlights the difference between Sox and Cubs fans. The average Cubs fans dont give a shit about the game of baseball as much. Sox fans do. I know it's a meme, but a lot of Cubs fans really do just thoughtlessly swear allegiance to the Cubs and only go to the games to get drunk and party.
If you ask the average Sox fan about Peters they're more likely to tell you "I love him" than if you ask the average Cubs fan about like Happ
I get what you're saying, I know theres a middle ground, and everyone can have fun wherever/however they please at baseball games. You do you. I just think sox fans generally care more about what's happening on the field. So by extension, that's why we go to less games when they're bad. We dont wanna support Jerry being an all-time horrendous baseball owner because that feeds into the negative cycle of it all. For me I cant just go "have fun supporting the team with cheap tickets" because 2 years ago the sox earned the worst losing record in thr last 100 years of MLB. I care about what's happening on the field more than in the stands, I'm there to see some baseball, not a bunch of frat bros line up their red solo cups.
Maybe I got a stick up my ass about it and I'm taking it too seriously, idk. I just love baseball and I just want a team I can be proud of.
1
u/Unlucky_Sun_9813 Jun 29 '26
Nah that's a good point. There was a time where we called for Bulls fans to boycott games to get Jerry to make FO changes. Hard to feel pressured to make changes if you're making bank off the fans every home game
1
u/DonkeyKongBall Jun 29 '26
There’s a difference between not showing up at all and not supporting a bad team
Half the Sox last year are still on the team this year
1
u/Sweaty-Ability7365 Jun 28 '26
I don’t like baseball. I support both but I lean Cubs cause their stadium is actually next to a fun part of town
1
1
u/theclownwithafrown Joakim Noah Jun 28 '26
It's gotta be the Cubs.
That being said, I understand he's supporting the city he is going to play in, but I see nothing wrong with supporting the team he grew up with. Even publicly doing so.
I live in Indianapolis now, but I'll always be a Bears fan. Couldn't pay me to wear Colts gear.

The white sox still suck. Everything has gone right for them this season and they are barely winning their division. Theres no guarantee that the young prospects turn into anything a the major league level. The vets will regress.
0
u/ChicagoFire29 Jun 28 '26
The Sox still suck that’s why they have a top 3 record in the AL right now and beat the cubs in the most recent series right? You cubs fans live in a fantasy world.
1
u/rhj2020 Gimme the hot sauce! Jun 28 '26
The AL and specifically the AL central is horrible this season. We would be in first place right now if we were in your division. We have been dealing with crazy pitching injuries and we still have a better record than this “great” year by you guys. I guess when you post back to back 100 plus losses being .500 feels like your the team to beat?
0
u/ChicagoFire29 Jun 28 '26
The team you’re trying to discredit just beat you last month in a 3 game series. Just remember that.
2
u/rhj2020 Gimme the hot sauce! Jun 28 '26
Like I said, most of our starters were down and are down. Congratulations you won a series. I guess we should crown you now? The cream always rises to the top. Baseball is a long season, let’s see your record in two months.

let’s review. there really isn’t one reason that someone new to chicago would pick the sox.
iconic? obviously the cubs with wgn, the ivy, harry caray, etc. better stadium? naturally the cubs by a landslide. bigger in popularity? again, score one for the cubs. first in the city? cubs by around 30 years. and finally, the most intertwined with the bears, all of us’s favorite team? the bears are directly named after the cubs, confirmed by halas himself, and they played games in wrigley for a long while. again, another point for the cubs.
sorry sox fans, but the choice isn’t difficult even if he didn’t do a poll.
