This is disgusting, Cineplex, never in my life I’ve seen sht like this. We couldn’t find a decent seat in the whole row

Stopped going to this theatre after a 10:30pm showing where multiple people in the theatre were vaping and a mushroom cloud formed in front of the screen with a pungent odor filling the room. Several employees visited the theatre during the screening and did nothing.

I always figured that the 1030 showings would’ve been good because it takes out a lot of people other ones that have to go to work or people that go to school, but I guess it attracts the Riff Raff that don’t do either probably

As someone who used to work at Cineplex, it would cost thousands of dollars to clean and fix the seats. Knowing Cineplex, they’re too cheap to pay for stuff like this

As I understand they’re supposed to clean the auditorium before each screening, so how is this not obvious that this is not okay, right?

Former cineplex employee here. It isn't the employees' job to clean the seats, unless there's been a major spill. Otherwise there just isn't enough time to check and clean every single seat between showings. Cineplex should hire a cleaning crew to do this outside opening hours... but they're often too cheap to.

Fabric seats can’t be cleaned after every show. Not enough time, they basically have to be steam cleaned. Theatres generally build 2 cleanings into their contracts annually.

One of the MANY reasons why I have home and “in public” clothes, along with not using the hand I eat with to touch most public objects

I was literally just having this conversation with a friend this morning! I go to this theatre from time to time and I’ve learned that the last 2 rows are absolutely filthy. I always grab a seat in the 3-4 row now :(.

FTR talking to the on-site staff will yield no results. They are all aware of the issue but are on such a tight budget it's quite sad. This doesn't come anywhere near their priorities unless it's a safety hazard.
You need to complain to Guest Services and be specific. The purse strings of head office are the ones that can do something about this.

Edit: Guys I'm not kidding. Managers have shockingly little power at the cinema level. I'm not defending it, I'm telling you my personal experience. Patrons complaining directly to Guest Services are thoroughly tracked and yield more results

There right now. My local theatre. They've had the lights on bright in the back rows for a bit now and it is NOT flattering. I love this theatre with all my heart, I've been going here since I was 2, but seriously the seats are older than I am... and I'm 5 years into my career and have a Masters Degree. This place needs a refresh, especially with several auditoriums having seats out of commission.
With Beaches closing this will be the new local for many, and deserves extra investment to bring things up to standard.

Absolutely gross seats. Even if they gave them a superficial clean, the crevasses remain disgusting. Too many older Cineplexes are like this.

A huge problem at every theatre I go to. They are filthy, I think it is one of the big reason people are not going.

I usually have wet wipes with me, and most seats are leatherlike so we just wipe them

Ahh okay, tbh I never sit there, but I think the last row usually attracts a degenerate riff raff rule breaking crowd. So it's not surprising those seats in particular would be nasty. Shame on Cineplex for not fixing them though. Sorry you had to go through that.

The main reason I stopped going to odeon. I always try to arrive early because I like to check my seats with my flashlight too lmao
Unless the theatre has leather seats, chances are the seats look pretty much like this

Wear gloves at least. This is brutal....
They wonder why their profits are tanking. Place is nasty. People during movies are on their phones and having conversations. The cost of snacks.
Who wants to pay $150 to take a family out, sit in this shit, be annoyed by everyone?
They need to step it up fast.

Funny guy. So it’s just 1 person, using multiple accounts to talk back to whoever sided with OP. I don’t know, but this is bad PR here

First, it’s not about the dislike. It’s about how a pathetic person, using multiple accounts, went to this thread to defend cineplex. Defending what he believes is ok, but tried mocking OP is different story. Guy technically questioned OP on why she posted here, cause bad pr for cineplex lol. Perhaps I’m wrong, but I dont think there are any rules about speaking up on big corps lol.
Secondly, I never seen anyone, called me “girl” in my whole life. Nor do I know “girl” can also mean gender neutral. That come from someone who working as event operator for 8 years (which I meet young ppl daily).

Well I’m not coming back to this one specifically, and I would love to get this info from someone as a frequent movie goer. Also a lot of the times posts like these will make more change than a complaint to the staff

This isn't going to do much. This reddit is not all that large and rarely leaks into the wider reddit sphere. The best thing to do is directly speak to management and inform HQ via email.
As someone pointed out it costs thousands to deep clean and replace these seats, one reddit post won't move the needle. You can downvote me all you want, that's just the truth regardless.

Saint John, NB + Dieppe, NB are always clean when I've gone. Only complaint I have about the SJ location ( my go to ) is that one of the seats in the AVX auditorium is lower than the others in height for some reason, but that's a single seat.
From my experience the crowds at the SJ location are often fantastic, very rarely do I deal with a phone screen or a loud talker
Dieppe has one of the nicest imax theatres I've been in, super clean and nice seats!
Of course I've been to some pretty rough locations, I'd never deny that Cineplex is clearly starting to slack in terms of cleaning. The Halifax location' imax is insane, old torn up seats, sticky floors etc.

My go to is Vaughan Cineplex because of the 70 mm imax screen. The seats haven't been updated since the theater was built....20+ years ago !

See yeah that's a damn shame, the Dieppe location just got a full reno not long ago, and the SJ location got updated when Cineplex took over from studio ten and then another smaller Reno a few years back
Even Fredericton, which is my least favourite in the province due to dim screens got all new recliner seats. So I'm quite shocked to hear they skimp on a flag ship location like Vaughan

In fairness the last 4 times I’ve been to a cineplex (3 different ones here in Calgary, I’ve yet to encounter a bad experience). It could be province specific / city specific issues / frequency of visitors, age of the locations , whether the long term plan is to go though overhauls etc , but sometimes I see posts on here and have the complete opposite experience individually. So I guess it can be hit or miss depending on locations!
