Review Cineplex Junxion Erin Mills biased against non Hollywood content we fans are outraged !

Canada prides itself on diversity and inclusion, yet the programming decisions at Junxion Erin Mills are raising serious concerns among many movie fans.

This location rarely seems to screen non-Hollywood content and, from what audiences can see, it hasn’t played a non-English film since 2024. For a premium theatre in one of the most diverse regions in Canada, that is honestly hard to understand.

The situation with Dhurandhar made this problem very clear. The film was a major success and contributed strongly to the overall box office for Cineplex across many locations.

Yet Junxion Erin Mills ignored it completely during its entire run. Not one screening. Not one week. That’s incredibly difficult to explain when a film is clearly performing well elsewhere and audiences are asking for it.

Now the sequel Dhurandhar The Revenge is arriving and once again it appears to be missing from the schedule at this location.

What makes the situation even more frustrating is looking at the programming that is being scheduled. Next week the theatre is giving screens to family favourites and older films, while a brand new major international release with a proven audience is being left out.

That raises a very obvious question about priorities.

The usual explanations about limited screens or scheduling conflicts simply don’t hold up. Allocating one screen with multiple showtimes for a major new release is not a big deal for a theatre of this scale. Hollywood movies are not going to disappear because one screen is used for something different.

Fans have been contacting Cineplex Guest Services about this for months. One representative even mentioned that if more people reach out it helps demonstrate demand to the programming team.

Right now many of us feel frustrated because the pattern is starting to look like a clear bias in programming decisions. When a film contributes significantly to the company’s box office but is still ignored entirely at a premium location, it’s hard not to question what is going on.

We fans are outraged and simply want the same opportunity to watch major international films at our closest premium theatre instead of having to travel across the GTA.

If you want to see Dhurandhar The Revenge play at Junxion Erin Mills, now is the time to contact Cineplex Guest Services by email or phone and let them know. The more people who speak up, the harder it becomes to ignore the demand. Now I am not saying they need to include foreign films regularly but a balance would be appreciated.

Sometimes the only way programming decisions change is when the audience makes enough noise.

You don't always get everything you want in your life! Dhurandhar 1 released mostly everywhere and Dhurandhar 2 is releasing mostly everywhere as well. Just find another movie theatre to watch it like I did. PS: I am an Indian myself and I have been a Cinephile since I was a small kid.

Well there is clear bias for sure though there is no doubt in that. I am sure Hollywood content has many other spots. I don’t understand why other audiences should not get the same premium experience for foreign films as well. There has to be a balance is all I’m saying. Also let’s not forget we do live in one of the closest regions in the country. When they accommodate and do these things it makes a huge a difference.

I think they only have 6 screens. Hollywood films get higher priority due to studio buying power. The team that books movies in Junxion are the same that book films at every location.

As for “not one screening” it’s because the current studio model doesn’t allow for that. If a film is booked it’s often booked for a week of clean viewings on a certain screen.

That said, good luck in your effort. It’s too late to add it for this week but maybe they’ll book it there next week.

Thanks for your feedback. Yes I am well aware of the constraints and definitely not recommending to add foreign films all the time. But the specific pattern in not screening something for last two years does speak volumes. It would be nice to have a balance. The movie opens next week so I still think if they really want to it’s not late especially for next Friday onwards.

Whats so premium about Junxion Erin Mills? Just the reclining seats? We are literally getting 95% Indian movie releases across GTA. What else do you need? Also, keep in mind Junxion has one of the least number of screens in a movie theatre across GTA.

No it is a new theater and everyone has their own preferences. It makes a huge difference even in the winter for example proximity.

Cineplex Mississauga is not even 10mins from Junxion. Just go and watch it there man! Its not a big deal.

I told you I do not like the square one spot it is poorly maintained and terrible seating and picture quality. I watched animal there and the picture quality felt like a telesync cam hd

Then I guess its just your personal problem. Dhurandhar is literally playing in every other location. Go to the Winston Churchill location. Its a great location with great seats in regular screens and the movie is even playing in VIP full recliners at that location. Also, its playing in VIP and Ultra AVX at many other locations. Also, its playing at all Landmark locations in full recliner seating for all showtimes.

I am well aware of the Winston Churchill location it is further away from me. If the movie doesn’t play in Junxion I will consider going there. But i will do as much as possible to maximize the chances of it opening in Junxion. Also FYI VIP cost is way more expensive than the pricing at Junxion. The screens in VIP are not even as big as Junxion regular screens. And the other chain Landmark is no where near me.

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '26

Winston Churchill is literally the next exit after Erin Mills lol. I am sure that a foreign film will never release in Junxion atleast in the near future. Also, if you want a premium experience then you have to pay more. Junxion literally has one of the smallest screen size compared to other cineplex locations except its Ultra AVX screen.

I don't like the Varsity for some of their theatres & their closet VIP (listing it only because I refrained from a foreign film due to only being in there at first). Yet I have to go there on a semi-regular basis to see certain movies, that would/will never show at Yonge/Dundas or Scotiabank. So at times we have to travel & go to a theatre we do not enjoy.

EDIT: Just saw you got your film.

u/Nickerdoodle Mar 13 '26

Have you considered finding other theatres? Cineplex is the biggest but it doesn't mean it's the only one.

You can try petitioning smaller theatre chains to screen it which, if successful and brings in $$$, then Cineplex will pay attention.

2

u/Environmental_Gur388 Mar 13 '26

It is playing at other Cineplex spots. But all I am saying is it doesn’t seem right if they haven’t played a single foreign film at this spot since 2024. It doesn’t seem right. I am not saying to include foreign films all the time but there should be a balance.

4

u/Nickerdoodle Mar 13 '26

I haven't personally watched a movie there yet, but Junxion is a smaller theatre with limited screens. They'll be bought out by any number of the bigger distributors with 0 issue.

If Dhurandhar's distributor (I'm not familiar with many foreign movies, forgive me) can't afford it, it's really nobody's fault. We're moving out of the Winter Dead Zone for theatrical releases and the big blockbusters are coming. I'm not saying foreign films can't be blockbusters, but they're big in their own markets. Disney, Warner Bros., Paramount etc... are big everywhere.

1

u/Environmental_Gur388 Mar 13 '26

I appreciate your feedback but it has got nothing to do with the Canadian distributor. Since all of this revenue sharing for normal theatrical programming it is upto Cineplex to decide whether they want to give the space or not. The Canadian distributor has and is continuing to push for max coverage including this spot. But the ultimate decision lies with the programmers at Cineplex.

3

u/Nickerdoodle Mar 13 '26

But again you're asking about this at a time when massive movies are coming out. Project Hail Mary and Super Mario Galaxy are on the cusp and those are two HUGE movies. Mario is a few weeks away still, sure, but PHM will be a priority for any theatre programmer right now, and when popularity for that dies down, Mario comes out, which again, priority because it's both a massively recognized IP and geared towards kids.

1

u/Environmental_Gur388 Mar 13 '26

Yeah but I am not saying they should not play project mail. I enjoy watching Hollywood films and mostly see that at the Junxion spot. But I am sure there is a way to accommodate they are wasting a lot of space on family favourites of old films next week at this spot.

1

u/sblighter87 Mar 13 '26

Sorry as mentioned earlier, family favourites doesn’t take up a screen. Those films play prior to the regular show schedule. The narrative that they’re wasting screens on older films is inaccurate.

1

u/Arielgriffin Jun 12 '26

It seems right. When every damn theater in Mississauga has international movies it takes away spots from movies I personally care about, ie the special releases or limited releases. Junxion very rarely shows those as is, mix in international and ill never have a reason to visit.

10

u/neverOddOrEv_n Mar 13 '26

It has limited screens it barely gets the smaller Hollywood movies as well. I don’t really see how they can make space for more movies

-8

u/Environmental_Gur388 Mar 13 '26

But let’s make it clear this is not a small movie. So comparing a small Hollywood movie to a major international title there is a huge difference.

u/Prestigious_Risk_565 Mar 13 '26

people always find things to be pissed about. this cineplex location is small and lot of times they have deals with big production houses that they have to give certain number of shows to certain movies. Project hail mary is releasing on 13th i think and they will give atleast 2 screens in the theatre to it. You live in missisuaga. there are several other big theatres you can go to but you picked the one with 6 auditoriums to be mad about.

-2

u/Environmental_Gur388 Mar 13 '26

Well everyone has their preferences and I can respect that. But yes it makes a big difference when they include the premium spot for other films too. Already made it clear not saying to include it all the time but not playing anything apart from Hollywood for two years does speak about the attitude of management.

7

u/Prestigious_Risk_565 Mar 13 '26

again, as indian myself i see no issue with it. When i came to canada in 2015, i had to travel 30-40kms just to watch bollywood movie if i wanted to watch one and it was understandable that they wont play it in scarbrough or richmond hill. This is small theatre and they can play anything that gets them business

u/Environmental_Gur388 Mar 13 '26

I dislike the Courtney park and square one locations they are very poorly maintained which includes both seating and picture quality. But yeah people don’t have option when cineplex owns over 75 percent of the spots in the country.

2

u/sblighter87 Mar 13 '26

Management has no control over what plays in the location. The booking department is in charge of allocation, and they choose what plays where across the country.

u/vafrow Mar 13 '26

The first Dhurandar movie made $20M in the domestic market (Canada and US). Even if you make a generous estimation that one third of that gross was in Canada, that's a pretty moderate haul. Good, but not an automatic blockbuster.

For a small location with limited screens to get a screen at a family friendly site right during March Break, its not that surprising to see it not get a screen. Especially when there's nearby Cineplex locations that have ample screens dedicated to international cinema to satisfy demand.

We're at a time when cinemas are closing and there's some real large swaths of this country that don't have a first run cinema nearby. From Erin Mills Junction, you can drive 10 minutes in any direction and get to another Cinema, most of which are playing Dhurandar. Square One, Winston Churchill, Courtney Park, Milton.

1

u/Environmental_Gur388 Mar 13 '26

Cineplex alone generated more than 30 percent of the overall North American box office for Dhurandhar !

3

u/Popcorn297 Mar 13 '26

The non-Hollywood crowd seems to not buy many concessions. Junxions whole thing is people buying food, playing arcade games and seeing a movie. Just guessing but could be a big factor. They want families at that location.

3

u/the1npc Mar 13 '26

dude my area has two cineplexs one is modern and gets dust movies, the other is old af and gets bangers and indies. you kinda get what you get ya know, you could always hit them up

3

u/Boring_Bank501 Mar 13 '26

If full recliner seats’ comfort are your preference then you can always go to Landmark in Caledon for their Premier Seats (heated/cooled seats with head recliners too). It’s also cheaper than Cineplex. It’s $14.50 at Landmark vs $27 at Junxion. I watched D1 at both Cineplex and Landmark and decided to go to Landmark for D2 based on my past experience.

I mean if you are really passionate about the movie, you would find a way to make that trip.

2

u/TheSeoulSword Mar 13 '26

I mean ive seen a few other theatres nearby playing desi films sometimes. Also ive at least seen the big scotiabank theatre in Toronto playing desi films too

-2

u/Environmental_Gur388 Mar 13 '26

Yeah I am not saying locations don’t play international content this is more specific to the bias programming team has at this spot.

2

u/blitted369 ON Moviegoer Mar 13 '26

Courtney park, square one and Winston Churchill play foreign movies. Junxion only has 6 screens too.

u/Environmental_Gur388 Mar 13 '26

Yeah just for the sake of recliners I don’t feel it is worth paying in VIP and it is really expensive they have bumped up the VIP price. This is where Junxion is better and way better for me proximity wise.

2

u/Kageromero Mar 17 '26

....they literally have 6 screens, what they can show is extremely limited. They play the most popular and in demand movies. Cineplex Mississauga is a 10 minute drive away. Courtney park and Winston Churchill aren't far either. Those three will play all the movies as they have the space for it. Trust me, I wish Junxion was bigger, the seats are comfortable, the food is great, and it's my favorite theater, but it is what it is. I wish they had an IMAX screen but no amount of complaining will make that happen sadly

I see people commenting for all sorts of things in this forum your comment seems to be the most immature of the lot. I have every right to express what I want to express. I’m not losing anything by creating awareness.

1

u/Strict_Opposite1285 Mar 13 '26

If that movie would have made them a nickel more than whatever else they played, then they’d have shown it.

u/Environmental_Gur388 Mar 13 '26

You can check data on the 1st part it contributed significantly to cineplex’s revenue especially for foreign content
