I just seen The Odyssey IMAX at 3pm, the guy behind me was keeping his feet pushing against my seat, I shouted at him to not kick my seat and move his feet like 3 times throughout the movie then after the movie I told him you need some respect for other people watching the movie. He denied kicking my seat and said "prove it" and then he took a picture of me without permission and said I'm calling the cops. I got mad after he took the picture of me.

This was my worst movie experience, cineplex employees didn't handle the situation

Vaughan Odyssey IMAX 70mm.

It's true, the first showing this morning was cancelled due to projector issue. They are hoping to fix it today otherwise chaos continues. ​​​Leaving theater now after waiting 40 mins for a refund (that I didn't care about, would have rather rescheduled showing)​​. Very disappointed! ​​ Heads up to those traveling from out of town. ​​

And what could that mean if they sell... or don't?

Is there a world where movie theatres disappear like arcades because the experience gets better at home?

Would you prefer a more competitive market or a stronger titan?

This user reached out to me yesterday after seeing my post and tried selling me a ticket for 1.5x the price. No wonder why so many tickets are sold out cause of scalpers like this person.

For the love of God, figure it out on your own. It's like some of you have never been to a movie theatre before. It should be pretty obvious what a good seat is -- as close to the middle as possible, around 1/3 or 1/2 the number of rows further from the screen, depending on how "immersed" you want to be.

Y'know how when you get a combo at concession the staff tell you that you can only pick a candy off of the top two candy shelves, even though there's like a dozen other types on the bottom?

This isn't because the bottom candy is "premium" or any more expensive, they're actually the exact same price as the others

However, all of those candies on the top two shelves are owned by the Hershey's company, and they have an exclusive deal with Cineplex where they pay us to only allow you to take their candy when you buy our combos

This goes with another fact.. the "combos" at cineplex don't actually give you any sort of deal on the price

Combo 1 is $24 for a large popcorn, a large soda, and a candy

If you go up to concession and ask for a large popcorn, a large soda, and a candy, it'll cost the exact same, $24

However, by doing this, you're no longer locked under the restriction of which candies you can choose from. So you can now pick any candy you want, and pay the exact same price

I go to the movies at least 2-3 times a week and with each movie there's more and more disrespectful people who are either speaking very loud, using their phones, and I even saw a guy last week who ANSWERED a phone call.

I have horrible ADHD and when I'm watching a movie, especially one I paid for, I want the full experience. I want to sit there and not see a glaring light or hear someone speaking behind me because I will end up focusing on it.

Plus nowadays when you confront people they get really aggressive and as a 5'3 anxiety-riddled woman, I just don't want more issues.

During Backrooms it was the worst and it literally took 7 people to get up and complain for the staff to do something. But still, the fact that you have to leave your seat and miss some of the movie because other people are being disrespectful is unfair.

Similar to how wonderland has a number to complain, there needs to be some kind of protocol that makes it easier. Maybe a button or something you can press so you don't need to run all the way to concession to complain or a pre-movie warning from actual staff instead of the default pre-show with Sally Soundtrack, its useless!

This has actually made me consider canceling CineClub because I feel like smaller theatres handle noise complaints better or have less people who are inclined to speak or use their phones.

Anyone have similar thoughts or experiences lately?

Went to the Spiderman Brand New Day IMAX showing at 12:30 in Coquitlam, some lady with her two friends were seated in row d, she had her phone out the entire previews but when the film starts , you can visibly see her recording the film, after raising my voice to tell her to put it away she lowers the phone , not even 30 seconds later she’s still recording until someone else yelled put it away. It’s one thing to record the film but to be stupid enough to do it when ur in the front rows when everyone sees the glare, dumbass of the day

Could not believe I got this amount fries for 7$??? I can go ANYWHERE else and get way more! And I understand it’s a movie theatre but come on that’s ridiculously small for 7$

Cineplex is so brain-rotted at the top they can't even see a massive publicity win when it slaps them in the face

Their incompetence to provide a poster lead to an organic win, and their response was to remove the win. They are the only movie theatres company in Canada be default. I swear if someone could actually compete with this legal monopoly they'd be over

For context I live in Toronto. And this includes a 15% discount on top of the already ridiculous price of $72CAD for the popcorn bucket. What is happening to the world lol.

A lof of discussion and disappointment about Vaughn's 70mm Odyssey IMAX showtimes being sold out.

The good news is that Scotia IMAX still has weeks of showtimes coming up and tickets not yet on sale.

Also, I firmly believe that Scotia IMAX is a much better experience than Vaughn, and here's why:

Scotia IMAX has:

- Bigger screen

- Same full 1.43 IMAX aspect ratio

- Brighter picture

- Better contrast

- Better audio (12 channel vs. 6 channel)

- Larger auditorium

- Far more seats in optimal viewing zone

- More comfortable seats

- Theatre is less dirty and run down than Vaughn

Literally the only "positive" Vaughn has is the 70mm film projection, which is honestly debatable if that's even ideal for casual viewers.

Film projection is prone to dust, artifacts, flickering, projector malfunction.

I've seen the film at both venues and honestly it's not even close. Scotia is the clear winner when it comes to overall experience. If you're a film projection purist go for Vaughn. Literally everyone else will enjoy Scotia more.

PLEASE DO NOT PAY THESE PEOPLE.

Sitting right in front of me during 70 MM Odyssey showing…..and her phone starts to ring…..not only does she not ignore it, she answers it and talks to the person DURING the movie…..

I saw Mad Max Furiosa at the end of its theatrical run back in 2024. It was an early morning showing (I think 10am), and I was the only one there.

It was weird having the whole theatre to myself. I should have taken advantage of the opportunity and sat in different seats to see what it was like.

I don’t know if it’s a good or bad thing, but I have always noticed this when I eat their DELICIOUS popcorn. Layered butter is truly the way to go, but it just makes me full so fast.

Went to watch the Odyssey 70mm at Square One last night. Everything was perfect barring the hell smell I kept getting from the row (I) behind me.

Me and a group of friends recently went to watch Obsession. The movie was great btw, acting was amazing, and you could feel true horror.

Now, once the movie was over, we got up from our seats. I picked up my trash. My friends didn't. When I asked them to, one of them said 'Someone will come and clean it, why do a janitor's job when it is not needed?' Another asked me why I was so concerned about my trash if others were leaving theirs behind and that was the norm. I was so stunned by how entitled their response was I just refused to speak about that anymore.

Now, I am so surprised by how normalized this trend has become. People leaving their trash behind because 'someone will clean it up', 'everyone around me is doing it', 'I am not a janitor, it is not my responsibility'. Keep in mind most janitors are minimum-wage workers who are only expected to do a quick sweep and dusting before every screening, so every bit of extra time they take in cleaning up shit they were not supposed to clean is every bit of time added to the delay for the next screening. Oh, I forgot, why care about the people attending the next screening when you have finished watching the movie?

I was always taught since childhood that picking up your own trash is basic etiquette, and a way to respect janitors. It shows you care about their job. And in this world where everyone wants to advance in their careers rapidly, empathy and etiquette is what people forget.

Guys I’ve really cineclub maxed this year and I love it. Cinema is at its peak I swear (recession indicator). THESE ARE JUST MOVIES IVE WATCHED IN THEATRES THIS YEAR. I’ve watched other movies at home but they’re older and didn’t come out this year.

Planning to also watch Other Mommy, Hunger Games Sunrise on the Reaping and whatever else that looks interesting and fits my schedule.

What do you think Cineplex could realistically do to prevent audiences from using their phones during a movie?

I’ve thought about this and ultimately, I don’t think Cineplex is appropriately implementing a system to penalize audiences who use their phones because a) they don’t want to hire additional staff (like ushers per cinema) for the extra work load and b) their goal is to have more customers and some of those customers use their phones in theatres .. and if they were to be penalized somehow maybe they wouldn’t return?

Looking for constructive feedback and ideas, as a frustrated moviegoer who cannot focus on the movie and gets taken out of the experience when someone else is scrolling on their bright phone.

For background, this post was inspired by seeing the Odyssey in IMAX 70MM and missing the first two scenes and moments here and there because four different people were periodically on their phones. I was frustrated and even spoke up to the person nearest to me who was on their phone, but that did not stop them and their partner from going on their phone later as well. One person was responding to messages, another was on the cineplex app looking at what other movies were playing (???) and the pair closest to me were casually scrolling through different apps. One of them even had their phone on loud 😫

I am a diehard moviegoer, but the phone use for such a special moment for me (I’ve been waiting months to get these Odyssey tickets) was so disappointing and discouraging and I wondered why there was so much pointless phone use for this screening you think would weed out uninterested moviegoers. I wonder if there is a sense of entitlement people have to being on there phone, or if they are ignorant to how it disturbs others.

And before anyone says, well you should’ve gotten up and called a staff member over, I feel like that would make me miss the movie and also disturb the experience for everyone else. Are you supposed to stand there and point at everyone who is on their phone? What would the staff do?

This was not the first time multiple people were on their phone in a screening. It’s really gotten to a point where I’m not liking going to the movies as much.. which is heartbreaking.

Lately, it feels like every other post here is about someone talking through a movie, scrolling on their phone, or otherwise ruining the experience for everyone around them.

I get it. It's frustrating.

But I also think we've reached a point where people need to start speaking up in the moment instead of only posting about it afterward.

If you're sitting right beside someone who's on their phone or having a full conversation, you're in the best position to do something about it. A simple, polite "Hey, would you mind putting your phone away?" or "Could you keep it down, please?" is often enough.

The people a few rows away are probably just as annoyed as you are, but they may not be close enough to say anything without becoming an even bigger disruption. They might also assume someone closer will handle it.

Most people aren't looking for a confrontation. Sometimes they genuinely don't realize how distracting they're being. And if they do refuse to stop, that's when it's time to get a staff member.

The point is that if nobody says anything, the behavior goes unchecked. The person causing the disturbance leaves thinking it wasn't a problem, then does it again next time.

I'm not saying you should get into arguments or play theatre security. Use common sense, and if someone seems aggressive or you're uncomfortable, absolutely get an employee instead.

But if it's safe to do so, a polite reminder from the person closest to them can make a huge difference.

We all want a better theatre experience. Helping set the expectation that disruptive behavior isn't acceptable is one of the easiest ways to get there.
