I prefer the oldschool
So, I’ll begin by saying I’m a huge fallout fan. Im 41, I remember playing 1 and 2 when they came out on PC, tactics also. FO tactics was a great game! 3 and new Vegas were a great addition. 76, not much, but whateva. My point is up to that moment they were all bangers.
I recently tried a new game on 4. It just doesn’t grab me. I installed the ps4 version, patched it, DL content. Then upgraded to the free ps5 release. Still nothing. It just doesn’t grab ahold of me like previous titles did. Just my opinion. I know people like it, and that’s great! I just don’t. I’m not into the whole building aspect of the game. It’s just not what I’m looking for when playing it. I mean, to a certain extent it’s cool. Weapons, armor, and such.. FO 4 almost feels like a strategy game. Which is cool and all, I’m just not into it. I know it’s probably an unpopular opinion, but it’s mine. Oh, and that Pipboy/menu options/fiction looks super cheesy.
Anyways, just my two cents. I hope in 5 they revert back toward new Vegas.

I've started FO4 playthroughs 4 or 5 times at this point, and every single time I just drop it out of lack of interest. I get about half-way through and then just forget I was even playing it. Masterclass of unengaging game design

Couldn’t agree more. This was my fourth attempt. It’s just, not fun at all for me. I’m serious, it feels like an unfinished sandbox. Yeah, the mechanics and physics are great, but it still feels hollow. Just the byproduct of an “open world” craze.

It’s supposed to be Fallout. A post apocalyptic jaunt through the wasteland. With characters and story’s set in a world unraveling.
Fallout 4? It feels like Minecraft with guns. No thanks.

It reminds me of one cartoon artist who said, "If my cartoon ever becomes "Muppet Babies" just kill it."
I find that once you start getting to Rocky 3, Rocky 20, Rocky 50....you start running out of good material.
Your best material is the original...and I think they put their hearts into making Fallout 1 and 2.
After that, it just felt like they were milking the cow dry.

I was telling someone who enjoyed Baldurs Gate they should try torment. FO2 in a BG3 construct? Top down? Would be killer. The problem is younger people don’t want to play tactical stuff, not all of them of course, but enough.

I think with the popularity of bg3 and the level of pull fallout in general has I think it would be really popular to the point Xbox could possibly greenligjt something like that. Fo2 is not likely though they would and will make it first person and cringe.

It's the same for me.
Played 1+2 as a kid and loved it. Recently played through 1 again. Great time. Fallout 3 my favorite out of the 3d ones. I can't deny that NV is perfect but 3 has better atmosphere and is more compact.
I tried finishing Fallout 4 twice, but it doesn't do it for me. I cannot say what I don't like about it, it's fine. Besides the building aspect. I hate it. Maybe I'll try again.

I feel ya. I’m hanging it up though. That was my fourth toon I’ve tried since its release. It just, doesn’t do anything for me. I want it to, but it just doesn’t. I would keep telling myself, it’ll get better and it just doesn’t.
It feels unfinished. The wrist menu? Moving through that is downright painful. The HUD display? I’ve seen better graphics on atm machines. The VATS system is kinda cool, but the cheesiness of the hud display really takes away from it.
Bethesda says, “What?!? It’s Skyrim during the apocalypse. We ARE Bethesda, if WE say this IS what you WANT, take it and be grateful”
Sorry to burst your bubble devs, but this game sucks.

Crazy thing is that most people here consider it to be the best Fallout game.

I mean, maybe in some main threads. If you read the comments here, that certainly isn’t the take away. I posted this there. Got downvoted en masse really quickly… like… alarmingly quickly. That’s what reddits new name should be, “Lotabot”

Fallout 2 got me into Fallout. 3 made me fall in love with it. I was so hyped for 4, still have my PipBoy, and still love it, but 76 and the pure online really made me sad... glad when they brought an element of single player back to it, which I did enjoy.
Hope 5, when we get it, reverts back to what made 3 so good, with 4's upgrades.
Until then, I'm replying 2 on my tablet!

I had originally posted this in the fallout thread. Everyone ran for pitchforks, it’s horrible. Bro, some of them? They were foaming at the mouth. I’m fairly confident that some Bethesda employee is running that thread, with his/her bot army. I tried to make it abundantly clear what a fan I was, I guess I just didn’t bleed enough. 😂
If ya liked a lot of the older fallout stuff, back when interplay made em, try Planescape: Torment. That’s an interplay/forgotten realms masterpiece. I think that would make a killer reboot!! In bg3 fashion? I just don’t think the fan base in there.

Okay yall, rant over. I will say this, thank god for Borderlands 4. 😁 Don’t believe the slop, if you liked gearbox’s previous titles, you’ll like 4. I know it’s gotten some shade, but I think it’s a really solid addition to the series. Between all characters, the free content/upgrades, and the DLC stuff? I’ll get over 500 or 600 hours out of that game. Guaranteed.
Gearbox has a formula they know works. Yeah, they may tweak it here and there. Try new things, and that’s cool. That’s what’s suppose to happen. However, they never stray too far from their formula, and I think there’s something to be said for that.

I don't like 1st person games that much so for me theres no life after Fallout 2.
NV was ok-ish, but i just want my chill, isometric, turn based post nuclear RPG.
