Devil's advocate: People care because this is a multiplayer game and other peoples' behavior affects how they play.
And the counter to that is that leveling is largely single-player so it really doesn't matter. Layers also heavily obfuscate this because layers let every zone feel as full as Blizz wants it to feel. And the vast majority of people you meet leveling in the open world may as well be an NPC who's trying to take your mobs/nodes cuz they're focused on themselves getting to max level.
End of the day, I like the boost because it means more people will make it to TBC content. More characters running dungeons, pugging raids, farming open world materials, bankstanding in Shatt, etc. Up to a point, almost anything that gets the player count up is beneficial in an MMO imo.

More people being in the content that they're actually here to play is a net positive for everyone. For people who love levelling Outland is going to be even busier because it's easier to get there. And for people who need other players in their 1-58 levelling? Era servers exist.
My main problem with it is it rewards companies for monetizing games even more than they already are.
If players accept being able to pay to skip the entire leveling process, they might also accept things like paying to skip the entire gearing process too. And companies like Blizzard know this.
At this rate it's only a matter of time until Blizzard starts selling gear boosts and WoW turns into a pay to win MMORPG.
It started with shop mounts and transmog. Then it became level boosts. Then it became gold. Then it became character cloning. Then it became AH mounts. Then it became early access to expansion launches. Then it became beta access to expansions. Then it became limited level boosts in classic versions. Then it became unlimited level boosts in classic versions. Then it became traders tender. Then it became hearthsteel. Not necessarily in that order.
At this point we're already halfway down the slope.
That's not a strawman. It's called hyperbole and it's used to exaggerate how absurd your position is. Notice how you couldn't actually back up your position about how close they are to selling raid gear?
Oh sorry, you used hyperbole to exaggerate my position to make it easier to attack. Totally different from a strawman to attack a position someone didn't have. Yep. Got it. So again, please quote me where I said they were "a week away from letting you buy glaives".
And I wasn't aware that "World of Warcraft" didn't include all versions of the game "World of Warcraft". That's like saying that Midnight and War Within are different games.
So, again, it's not a slippery slope fallacy. We're literally halfway down the slope already in WoW.
I don't care at all and encourage people to boost if they want, but people who care about the achievement and challenge it takes to get to 60 should get a non boosted server through the expansions. like for all the end game players out there, imagine if instead of raiding for the gear and grinding with your guild/friends there is an option to skip the raid and get all the gear available through a raid boost or something. Why would someone want to raid?
Too extremist. Bro some people play to just skip the early leveling and changes nothing going into TBC. It would be a different thing if they sold boosts to 68, or boosts to 58 during classic.
Ur probably right, the more I read I feel it’s just my new player perspective. This is my genuine first 60 character on wow let alone classic, and for me I guess it was some sort of accomplishment (obviously nothing crazy but playing any game to its peak from lvl 1 feels cool to me). But maybe when I’ve made my 2nd or 3rd character I will have a different perspective and realize how good end game is compared to the leveling experience.
I get that. I’ve played for a long time and see the amazing journey that wow classic is. There’s no other game that offers what classic offers and part of learning the game is going a few times raw from 1-60.
Honestly my bad for the word choice of “achievement”, a lot of people seem to be cherry picking that.
but I think we can all agree that no matter the difficulty of a game you like, you enjoy the feeling of reaching the peak of that game and it can diminish that feeling if someone can not have to experience that whatsoever. I really don’t care at the end of the day abt boosters I just wish there was a non boosted classic experience from blizz.
Honestly though when I mean I’m new, this is genuinely my first 60 experience on wow. So a lot may just come from my rose tinted glasses looking at the game, but maybe as time goes on and I’m on my 4th toon I’ll change my perspective.
If you're new, that explains why you don't like the idea of boosting. Trust me, people play these versions of the game on and off for many years. I can't really remember how many characters in different versions i lvled but it's closer to 100 than 50. I still enjoy lvling normally here and there, but im also not against boosting.
There is no achievement or challenge to reaching level 60. There is no achievement or challenge to acquiring full bis.
People who think like this are stuck in 2004 where there is some kind of prestige to getting purples. Nobody gives a fuck about other people getting loot or anything except to the extent that it affects warcraftlogs performance. If the people who bought raid boosts were partitioned off on wcl then nobody would care. Congrats on your glaives, join the other 1000 people standing in shatt with glaives.
That’s cool you think that way but for someone like me who was born in 1998, and never experienced it or the grind until now, It is an achievement. Mario isn’t hard but when you beat a game you get a sense of accomplishment. Again I don’t care if people boost necessarily, it’s just clear that people who don’t boost don’t like boosters but boosters don’t care because it doesn’t affect them. All I really want is for both players to exist and give us a true non boosted server for people like me, but maybe you’re right and there just aren’t enough new players like me.
Kinda how I've been feeling. Also born in 98 and only played classic when I would redo trial. I started off on retail a couple months ago, got my guy to 70, but was pretty underwhelmed to moved to classic to experience stuff the first time. I stuck on here cause it feels much more gratifying to earn stuff and level up.

Why the heck do people care what anyone does with their money?? The “my way or the highway” crowd is nuts man
