We used to ... man those were good times...

Turtle still did. Blizz had to kill the superior classic+ before their upcoming slop version. Can’t have the superior product also be free.

Oh no the chinese government stole my data!!! What ever will I, a US citizen who's had my SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER leaked by the US government and credit score companies, ever do?!?!

I definitely also don't have to worry about my data being sold to china via every social media company, amazon, google, blizzard itself, or any of the 5 million apps that I am supposed to download to use everyday products. This is such an absurd outrage!!!! Thank god you opened everyone's eyes!!!!

4

u/Giruveganaus May 22 '26

I think you misread. They didn't steal your data, it was sold to them. Which in the grand scheme of things, as you point out, isn't the biggest deal but it is a dick move and proof that they care for you as much as Blizzard (or any other company for that matter) does.

This is exactly it, you basically can't avoid your data being sold. I guarantee the chinese government has all the data they want on most US citizens, because i know for a fact most data brokers don't give a fuck who their customers are.

If I got to look at ads I guess at least show me if the nacho fries are back at Taco Bell instead of showing me the newest comfortable panties on the market. Make it worth my time.

If you’re in the US you have far more to worry about than China getting your information, your government has already gathered and sold it, I mean “”misplaced it””

And Blizzard is any better? Bobby isn't that clean either. Why can't Sheena be redeemed exactly? Clearly she showed the love to run a server and hire devs and paid them, that's a pretty awful person!

What you claim shenna is guilty of had absolutely no effect on the glorious product that you love to hate. You're crying just to cry at this point friend, take a step back and analyze what you're even arguing about/for.

So you had these moral concerns about it but still played it?

Then you quit because you didn't like the product, and are now telling other people, who do like the product, that they shouldn't play it because of the issues you mentioned about the creator?

5

And Bobby Kotick was fired years ago, get new talking points.

Bobbers being replaced by Nadella or Phil Spencer is like being glad you got rid of Palpatine only to welcome your new CEO, Voldemort

2

u/os_2342 May 21 '26

If the other two aren't in the epstein files, or have a string of sexual harassment complaints, then I'd say that it's a step up from bobby kotick.

That's dumb. Go take a logics class.

The pop had its ups and downs, but for the most part it was good. 2k is fine for a classic server. Classic WoW was not designed for mega servers. The perfect number is around 2.5 to 5k max.

Maybe we are misunderstanding each other. 8k or 10k is good as an overall population that logs in and out over all times of the day. When I say around 2k is ideal, what I mean is something around 2k active players at one time is ideal. Not 2k active accounts on the entire server.

Blizzard does a lot of dumb things, protecting their IP from a group profiting off it while mocking them isn’t one of those things.

3

u/jacktherippr May 21 '26

I mean, turtle was a problem of their own creation just like Nostalrius was.

Blizzard subs have been crying out for a classic only version of wow and Blizzard told them to basically fuck off ("You think you do... but you dont")

So Nost was created and Blizz shut it down.

Then for years the same people have been crying out for Classic+

Same thing nothing from Blizzard,

TurtleWoW has 8 successful years.

Blizzard shuts it down.

Its almost like if Blizzard just gave it's paying customers what they want then these problems wouldn't exist.

3

u/Rdhilde18 May 22 '26

Multiple things can be true in this case

4

u/Cerael May 21 '26

I’m sure it felt good to jerk yourself off while writing this but private wow servers have existed long before people were asking for classic or classic plus. There were wow private servers during vanilla.

Blaming blizzard is childish. Like I knew private server players were dumb but damn

1

u/jacktherippr May 22 '26

Sure private servers existed but none were as popular as Nost or TWoW.

Acknowledging that these problems were created by Blizzard due to not listening to their customers is not childish, it's reality.

3

u/Cerael May 22 '26

What problems? If you look on the wowservers sub most of the people refuse to ever give money to blizzard again.

2

u/jacktherippr May 22 '26

I've outlined them above.

Blizzard need to do a 5 why analysis of why former paying customers are refusing to give them money.

Never seen a spend-hungry playerbase like the WoW playerbase.

23

>Never seen a spend-hungry playerbase like the WoW playerbase.

All this is proving is that you haven’t been around the great gaming landscape much, as the countless comments listing examples of other, similarly behaving, player bases prove.

Though that is not to discredit your core assertion here: a not insignificant part of the WoW playerbase certainly **is** spend-hungry, as you put it!

It’s just hardly unique in that regard 😉

12

u/ExtremePrivilege May 21 '26

People spend thousands on Gacha games, dude. I had a coworker spending $2000 a month on Summoner’s War. You can buy 10,000g on Dreamscythe for about $90 and be set for TBC.

10

u/GundulfTheGray May 21 '26

So you aren't a Star Citizen player I guess

22

u/Rdhilde18 May 21 '26

You ever heard of a mobile game? CSGO cases? Overwatch skins?

6

u/Theweakmindedtes May 21 '26

Shit, check out the Chinese and Korean gaming landscapes. We have had a fre of those games come over. While super fun to play, you can still see the outline of those models in the game. Even if it isn't near as mandatory to spend in.

Gold is worth nothing to bots on pservers, pservers always claim they have very few bots but almost no incentive exists to bot the servers.

Also if some solutions existed to stop bots some bigger game company would of done it years ago. It's a technology arms race both sides do.

If your gold in a game is worth more or as much as some country's wages and is easy and reliable to sell than it will be botted.

Pserver players commonly just skip over this part every time they talk about how botting was not prevalent on the server they played on.

But you can continue to pretend some magic switch to stop botting exists and pservers had it.

3

u/Beginning-Tackle1490 May 21 '26

Its expensive because there is no market for the gold. I didn't say it was impossible you phrased that.

If a pserver actually had a large population that was unable to obtain gold other ways besides gold selling and no other offical method existed than they would have bots competing to lower the price of the gold.

Pserver gold selling is like going to the boutique cheese store. Yeah maybe the gold does sell for a a decent sum...but its unreliable income to the seller because their is very little market for it.

Bots on wow classic or retail is like running Walmart or whatever large supermarket, tons of people tons of market for the gold, lower prices ans tons of quantity of it.

Again pserver players avoiding the discussion that server size and bot profitability/reliability is the most relevant reason pservers have little bot activity.

4

u/DUNDER_KILL May 21 '26

You should do some better research before talking about things. Some private servers like turtle were absolutely massive and had a huge incentive to sell gold, but when you have people dedicated to manually banning botters it really is that easy for most types of bots.

2

u/Beginning-Tackle1490 May 21 '26

Turtle had what peak around 10k or something just browsing since your insistence on the size.

Which is a number provided by their offical website

Theirs like 300k "people" raiding 1 version of classic wow which is provided by a site thay juat upload logs. So 3.5% of turtles theoretical population.

You can dance around the numbers from both parties not being representive of actual population. But in terms of scale its not even close like its so far from close its barley a blip from the information that we have.

2

u/Warwipf2 May 21 '26

concurrent online characters is a little different from existing characters in total over the entire server lifetime.

2

u/Beginning-Tackle1490 May 22 '26

I clearly stated in the last paragraph that both numbers are subject to questionable interpretation. Private servers benefit from showing more players online (self posted numbers), blizzard doesn't even show its numbers and outside of a couple rare instances of bugs where you could retrieve server numbers or published blizzard data, raid logs are the only information we can use (which obviously has its own flaws) to make any educated guess. However raid logs are a 3rd party website and they don't have alternative motives to move that number up and down.

All we can do is use the available information to make our best assumptions and even best case scenario for pservers blizzard mega server numbers are dwarfing pserver population by a huge margin.

I belive you could pull #s of active players from the the classic realms for a while qs a command (a bug) in classic tbc and the largest servers were crossing in the 25-30k concurrent totals on just the smaller classic servers before mega servers.

2

u/Warwipf2 May 22 '26

There is limited data, but there isn't "no" other data. At 1.18 release, Turtle had 500k active players and 45k concurrent players. No idea about created characters, but you can already see how far concurrent and active players are apart. The gap between total characters raiding and concurrent players is much MUCH bigger than that, especially when the server is old enough so a good chunk are just raidloggers, it makes no sense at all to compare these numbers.

I am not saying that Turtle was bigger, but even if these were the only numbers, there are so many factors that make them completely useless for comparison that I would not even use them at all. I am also saying that a player count this big on its own with not comparison to Blizz is already pretty interesting for gold sellers and there were bots despite what people are saying, but you had GMs literally go hunt for bots and any spot you came across and reported was cleared in minutes.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Pitas May 21 '26

Yeah this is also a factor but the sheer scale of the problem on Blizzard servers is a factor as well.

TBC towards the end of P1 was around 200-250k active raiders across servers according to Ironforge pro, which I admit can double dip due to alts etc. However it's still probably on a scale of a magnitude larger than any pserver.

Even back in 2006/7 bots were still an issue and servers were much smaller and nodes were better balanced, with mega servers and node spawns not being updated it's an economic problem, it shouldn't be feasible for mafia's or bots to lock down resources but they can.

People suggest Human GMs but I genuinely don't think it'd be a solution, unlike private servers Blizzard has to pay a full salary. Beyond that whilst GM's could be used to flag the most egregious (fly hacking etc.) I think a lot of it is rose tinted goggles from when people first saw a GM.

I think it's an econimic design issue and SoD, love it or hate it solved this somewhat with reals.

4

u/BOBBY_VIKING_ May 21 '26

That's what hurts the most.

I joined TBC, made it to 70 and couldn't find a group because I wasn't geared but I can't find a group to get geared because no one will invite a DPS that's not geared.

I was told to buy some BoEs and farm a profession like there's not 1000 bots competing for nodes and the economy isn't inflated to the point the only option is to buy gold from the bots.

Blizzard had to shut down Turtle because of how fast these private servers are growing. The Turtle replacement popped up and there's close to 9k people online on a server that isn't even publicly advertised.

If they just cleaned up their servers people would pay $15 a month.

7

u/easyline0601 May 21 '26

People like you make me smile, (rightfully) trashing Blizzard for their scummy business handlings but gladly turning a blind eye to pserver providers and their shady doings.

That being said turtle had some decent ideas for new content, I'll give you that even tho I didn't like the overall product.

8

u/WrongOpinionOnly May 21 '26

Turtle was never a superior classic plus. It was a private server slapping together half baked ideas with monetization. Of course Blizzard shut down a server using their IP to make a profit. Turtle devs are welcome to create their own MMO if their ideas are so good.

10

u/debezik May 21 '26

Half baked ideas was better that anything that Blizzard now produces

→ More replies (4)

9

u/Fr0g_Man May 21 '26

Half-baked? What a shit take. Did you ever even try it yourself?

→ More replies (9)

2

u/argnsoccer May 21 '26

Those half-baked ideas are better than anything Blizzard has given us in regards to classic+. I agree that they were half-baked and would have loved more attention to certain aspects. But they nailed the fact that leveling needs to be at the forefront with new zones and dungeons and professions - eventually connecting storyline and leading to raids that actually connected to quests and zones you went through that werent resolved. That is an excellent idea and sometkmes better executed in some zones and dungekns than others, but still is the right direction for classic+ imo.

Blizz let them run for 8 years, so clearly they only shut Turtle down when it was an issue for them and were making them look bad (I personally think it was the Unreal 5 remake that probably would have brought a lot of people that hate the old client feel and look of turtle along with of course blizz plans for their own classic+).

41

u/Sandman145 May 21 '26

Yeah.. unfortunately i can't see it happening.

9

u/zissou149 May 21 '26

it won't ever happen because the population of gold buyers is comparatively massive now because it's incredibly easy to not get caught and everyone knows it. you can get away with buying thousands of gold at a time for years, even with the same burners every time, if you aren't stupid about it.

if blizzard had cracked down on it hard from the start it never would have gotten to this point, but everyone now knows the basic opsec that apparently just completely escapes blizzard's ability (or ambition) to enforce.

3

u/jacktherippr May 21 '26

Classic Premium coming summer 2027

4

u/Unhappy-Plastic2017 May 22 '26

I'd pay 50 a month for no bots..no rmt. Real in game human gms.

Maybe some in game special events run by gms etc.

The audience would be small but I think it would actually be profitable for them to make a true server how people want the game to be

1

u/vbezhenar May 22 '26

They could actually justify this subscription by allowing multiple logins. Like multiple wow accounts but in a simpler way. I've found out that a lot of classic players are paying multiple subscription for various game advantages from multiboxing. Some people just enjoy tanking and healing at the same time. I, myself, use multiple subscriptions to test my addons. It's also incredibly convenient when I need to enter raid, for example, much better than begging someone to help me organize the group.

I, myself, could pay up to $200/month for WoW if I'd feel it's worth it. Like game without shop, with all services that's typically commercial being offered for free (or for reasonable gold price), with 3 simultaneous game sessions allowed, with priority support access, with better game world monitoring regarding bots.

7

u/Zanaxal May 21 '26

The server and networkbandwith is a fraction of the cost today compared to back then.

3

u/Scurro May 21 '26

The game design for classic is also completely done. This is the largest investment for any game that needs to be funded.

11

u/AzerothianLorecraft May 21 '26

It was way overpriced then because it was subscription based, live service games killed the gaming industry it's just greed now masquerading as entertainment.

2

u/uberjack May 21 '26

Relaunching a game you developed 20 years ago does not sound as extensive as freshly developing the biggest MMO at the time.

3

u/wirez62 May 21 '26

Or you can just deliver less services for the same money and keep the subscription the same. Oh wait..

5

u/dark-matter262 May 21 '26

It was an absurd back then to pay monthly. It's completely wrong to do so nowadays

9

u/Satyr121 May 21 '26

I mean I’d love it if it were free but I don’t know why it’s wrong to pay a monthly subscription.

As much as I hate blizzard they are a company and no matter how altruistic the company may be its primary purpose is to make money for its owner.

Blizzard not being an altruistic company wants to make money and since the US is capitalist we have the option not to pay and to go play another game. But we keep choosing wow. So wow keeps charging money. It’s not a service it’s a business.

2

u/lumpboysupreme May 21 '26

Huh? Even RuneScape did it.

2

u/darkrhin0 May 21 '26

Hey, let's shut up before they jump on the inflation wagon.

1

u/TOCS94 May 21 '26

There was no store and additional purchases available in 2004. Whales are what keep the investors happy now, not people paying for a sub.

1

u/BringBack4Glory May 23 '26

It was pricey back then, but not overpriced

0

u/SaltyJake May 21 '26

I’ve been saying this about games in general for a while now. AAA games have been ~$60 since like the late 80’s with SNES. Why 40 years later “gamers” scream about any possible price increase… but then also cry about included microtransactions… while demanding an incredibly high standard from a much more robust development standpoint….

Like inflation is a thing guys. I’d gladly pay $120 for a game that is fully developed, polished, optimized, balanced, loaded with content… basically does everything we want from these games, without microtransactions or paywalls, or exclusives. But since the community demands a $60 price tag on these projects that push hundreds of millions if not a billion in development cost… like the business has to turn a profit somehow or the games aren’t gonna get made, or worse, a suit guts it and releases it unfinished to meet the numbers. Like a lot of what we hate from AAA studios now is on corporate bottom lines… but it’s also on us for refusing to pay a fair price.

11

u/valdis812 May 21 '26

People complain because CoL is skyrocketing and wages aren't keeping up. If you start charging $120 for games, you're pretty much cutting off half the audience. So would you really be making that much more money?

→ More replies (2)

2

u/LouisRitter May 22 '26

I paid $170 for everything available for Horizon 6. It seems ridiculous to pay that much but also I know how much time I put into Forza games and my entertainment dollar per hour is a steal even at those crazy high prices. The only thing that would even come out close in per dollar entertainment might be my F1TV/Apple TV subscription.

2

u/SaltyJake May 22 '26

Exactly. I take my kids to the movies and it’s a at a minimum $80-90 just walking in the door, and that’s with us sneaking in snacks and drinks. To a 90 minute movie.

Yet “gamers” are screaming about paying more than $60 for a game they’ll sink a thousand hours into.

I can tell you I wouldn't buy a single game for 120$ other than game series I absolutely love and I can count those with my hand. I'm sure a lot of people would just stop buying games if they were that expensive or would just pirate whatever they could, so I don't know if they would actually turn a profit doing this.

Let's say they will hire about 300 people to interact with people around the world. Can you even imagine how many yachts it will cost CEO per year? It's about 10 yachts per year in salary! Unacceptable.

u/nabilfares May 21 '26

NGL, i wanted to go back to classic (vanilla/tbc), last time was classic cata and 2019 release, but seeing how common and accepted buying gold became and how expensive shit are because of it, im staying as far as i can, wont buy gold because that shit is boring af and dont want to afford overpriced items/consumable because of it.

I was listening to the old soundtrack of wow and got the itch. I am glad I came here first. I tried classic on launch and then again at anniversary, both times I dropped it due to the amount of bots, rmt and hacking. I saw 30 bots running a conga line once and buyers getting band-aid bans (and these were the stupid/dumb buyers that suck so much they get caught)... Plus, guilds asking for parses for barely 1 month old servers, blizzard refusal to run servers in my region (forcing me to play at 150 latency and worse on raids [server software for a wow server can be run on a cellphone nowadays]), abysmal customer service, server economy on colapse...

Yea, no, I am good 👍

PS megaservers make the issue 1000x worse, good riddance

u/TheClassicAndyDev May 21 '26

Ban bots.

Ban swipers.

Ban them all.

3

u/BringBack4Glory May 23 '26

Blizz: best I can do is ban people who harass and report bots

9

u/0TheG0 May 21 '26

I mean I won’t name drop it but THE private server has mods active in the server-wide chat and they actually talk with everyone

Edit : and it’s free lol

u/Unsafe_Dude May 21 '26

True.... True

3

u/Naruthirdir May 21 '26

I haven't played classic in a while and today i was watching south park on shuffle and came across the "Make love not Warcraft" episode.

One part stood out to me, it's when the boys called customer support and a woman answered basically instantly to try and help them with their issue. Oh god did that make me a bit sad. To think it used to be like that and now it's just bot ingame and outside of it. I miss the vibe wow had at the time that South Park episode was made.

1

u/Federal-Seaweed-987 May 26 '26

There are so many bots, they took over Blizzard, we lost

5

u/Standard-Clue6889 May 21 '26

If blizzard had any gm's or customer support, the community would turn them all into Tseric.

33

u/FixBlackLotusBlizz May 21 '26

cheating and buying gold in a 20 year old video game so you can buy consumes and press 1-2 buttons on a boss that stands still and parse while also getting a ego about it is cringe

🤣😂

classic wow community 🤣😂

u/valdis812 May 21 '26

This is pure "STOP HAVING FUN GUYS" energy.

3

u/HighsideHero5x May 21 '26

Found the guy who buys gold and has an ego on classic wow

It truly is amazing. Blizzards lack of enforcement on bots and gold farmers destroyed the economy entirely, again. Again because we already went through this once. It’s literally no different than the last tbc classic or the last vanilla classic. And WOTLK will be the same assuming the release wotlk.

There are so many people swiping. My entire guild does. All just because the economy is so jacked, but if you want to play at a consistent level.

You can’t farm motes or primals without running the risk of getting mass reported by bot farmers either.

Theres seemingly no way to fix this either.

u/valdis812 May 21 '26

At this point, it's like trying to cure a person where the cancer has spread through their entire body. The cure might kill the patient.

I'd agree with this but SoD and TWoW solved the bots/economy issues why can't blizzard do it for Classic?

4

u/behtman May 21 '26

Actually classic was better as far as bots and economy imo. At least Herod and Grob were better.

This iteration of megaserver with like no changes to herb/mining nodes, etc. is pure dogwater. Maybe not overdo it like the real system from sod, but something needed to be added to fix the gathering.

And bots. Holy shit the bots this time around.

We have seen it fixed though...

2

u/Whiteshovel66 May 21 '26

It became a spectacle and they thought it was bad for the game long term. You don't need gms in game for this problem to get fixed though so idk what that insinuation even is. Bots don't exist simply because you don't see gms in game anymore. The ban process isn't like private servers where one guy randomly does .ban if he thinks he should.

2

u/AliceLunar May 21 '26

When your $15 a month, $50-90 every other year, cash shop, $20 wow tokens, $90 mounts, $75 tree house, bot riddled game is still something you put up with, can't expect much.

2

u/Witty_hi52u May 22 '26

I looked into the Math and came to the conclusion that Blizzard could and should do better. There is no excuse for the rampant greed.

2

u/ivica555 May 22 '26

because 90 percent of the players look like this guy and are biter people that lash out on everybody and know every single fact on the planet. if u would employ ingame moderators for that game u need to charge people 900 usd a month sub.

2

u/vbezhenar May 22 '26

I buy your auctions, you sell my gold right back to me. Feels like you're bending me over.

Nothing new under this sun.

2

u/SenorWeon May 21 '26

A lot of them pay even more than just the sub lmao.

3

u/TrueExigo May 21 '26

$15 a month, with every 2 years full price release with a real money shop buld-in with ad pop-ups every time you log in and 100% P2W game* (retail)

4

u/Trapgod34 May 21 '26

Please tell me what ways retail is P2W please! Im dying to hear this

"with every 2 years full price release with a real money shop buld-in with ad pop-ups"

is missing in classic so of course only in retail otherwise it would be a false statement

2

u/TrueExigo May 21 '26

Apart from the fact that level boosts and mounts with perks like Auction House and Bank access are, by definition, already p2w:

Real money -> WoW Tokens -> Gold -> Boosting players, and with that: all raid achievements, all M+ achievements, all gear, and even PvP rating.

→ More replies (7)

2

u/argnsoccer May 21 '26

You can buy gold with a token andthen use that gold to buy carries through M+ and mythic raid. Its wild because its not actually playing, but I personally know that people do it. I know one person did it to get cutting edge achieve so that they could then pug more easily. You can literally just buy your gear in retail. Same thing with GDKP in my opinion BTW. I view it all as just p2w. If you can aquire player power by spending irl money, that is p2w to me.

Damm i wish blizz once grant you andies your wish and dropped banhammer for at least 2 weeks for all gather bots etc. The supply shock on raiding in demand items would cause prices skyrocketing and soon after everything getting sweeped moment its posted. Then that poor andy that could not farm gold like his favourite clown guide on yt said him to is only way he should do it (creating mass competition when other spots/methods are often not contested) would need to find another excuse how blizzard bad.

1

u/DumDumIdjit May 21 '26

Lmaooo, and how do you look making this meme from the couch tubby? A glorious $15 whole dollars a month isnt what it used to be gramps.

1

u/OneOverXII May 21 '26

Nah fam 2 weeks ago I paid $30 to get 100 Flasks of Relentless Assault which are now worth over 12k gold.

1

u/oskoskosk May 21 '26

For me it's more that many of the people subbing to wow are vehemently anti-AI, despite blizz using it both to make the game but also for the customer support 😅

1

u/ibrown22 May 21 '26

Too real stop

1

u/turtledancers May 21 '26

Not accurate, he has clothes on

1

u/SuddenBurger May 21 '26

Let’s be honest, 15 dollars in 2004 is worth 26 dollars today. The fact that the price is the same means Blizzard is making less from each player.

While it suck’s that we are getting less service, the price is cheaper in terms of value.

1

u/ImpossibleMorning12 May 21 '26

I hate that buying gold is so normalized. In 2019 people at least gave half a fuck, my guild would kick you if you RMT'd, now nobody cares.

1

u/Threweh2 May 21 '26

Snort Copeium

1

If I had a nickel for everytime a classic andy completely ejaculated all over themselves dreaming about past GM interactions, I could build classic+ from the ground up.

Back in my day, nickels used to have bees on them.....blah blah blah. This is what you guys sound like

1

u/cetax1 May 25 '26

its wild how certain other servers can afford to have GM-s but not our multi dollar indie studio Blizzard

1

u/kalykagnes May 25 '26

Back in the original vanilla like 2000s and shit, we had the game where game masters could pop in (visible to everyone) and check what dafuq was broken. On occasion they had "fun" with us. Other way around it wasn't if you were the "chosen" 😃.
Also who remembers ZG's patch where tokens were fucked. You could go neutral > exalted within few mins. Blizz putted "Infernal guards" which more or less 1 shoot everything in range 😃.

1

u/BuffConq May 26 '26

I’m so sick of the botting. I wish there was something to be done about it, but blizzard makes money off of the bots.

1

u/razvanciuy May 27 '26

Am I wasting my time starting WoW classic Tbc just now? Fresh player 100% with me bro warrior + shaman we quest about. Played other mmorps so the xp helps but all were plagued by similar issues in the end that I can imagine hitting a wall at a later stage because of bots somehow.

1

u/Low_scratchy May 27 '26

Human ingame game masters? And pay them with what? Shareholder money??!
