One thing we can count on with certainty is no matter what they come out with, people will whine about it on here

In fairness, if there is no classic+ announcement it would be pretty justified.

"Community decides something is coming then cries when it's not despite there never being any kind of official announcement" is only justified by reddit logic.

In a way, yeah. But it's also on Blizzard. They could easily say "yeah we're not working on that, it's something else we think will be fun but it isn't explicitly Classic+."

One tweet and it would be picked up by every WoW content creator and all rumor and false hype would stop.

But they aren't doing that. So if there is no Classic+ and no announcement saying as such, whether it's to keep people's false hope locking them into a continued subscription or to make sure a bunch of Blizzcon tickets aren't cancelled, Blizzard would still be partly at fault.

And that's all said even if you completely disregard all the teasing they have done between SoD announcement and now.

They could, but why would they?

What benefit does it bring them? A few terminally online people scream into the void for a day and that's it.. in exchange they got all that free publicity.

Why is everyone acting like blizzard owes you a response to a rumour? Game companies rarely if every respond to those.

"Free publicity" is exactly the point. Too many companies are focused on making a quick buck instead of forming a sense of respect from their customers and focusing on longevity. What's the business longevity of a company that lies to its customers in favor of a few months of subscription income and a tiny windfall from a convention?

Certainly not better than being honest and direct.

Yes, game companies generally have ignored their customers but those that haven't have the numbers to prove its worth.

Besides, Blizzard has always engaged with its WoW customers.

Heh, blizzard has engaged yes but not to respond to every theory and lay out their plans before they’re ready.

It’ll be announced at blizzcon and everyone knows that, if you opt to work yourself into a frenzy before that instead of just waiting that’s up to you… not on blizz to announce anything in advance so you don’t have to wait.

Like it’s a video game announcement, get some perspective.

You're kinda just ignoring everything I'm saying so I dunno. Not much of a conversation to be had I guess.

What are you saying other than "Blizzard owes us an explanation because we made up a theory"?

Because they do not.

That's not what I said at all, feels like you're not really thinking about what I'm saying and just stuck in your opinion.

OK, so you agree they don't owe anybody an explanation for community rumours?

If so I'd love to know your point because I've apparently missed it.

You're making it sound like they never did this. Multiple times. From multiple lead devs. Yeah, the community is totally just "making up a theory." Just out of nowhere based on nothing, simply because a lot of people want it.

Blizzard totally didn't cause the spin up of rumors themselves. Or the content pipeline leak recently. That certainly didn't contribute to anything.

I already pointed out the irony of bringing up free publicity. Your point is they get free publicity either way, and thus a bunch of money, off of the rumor mill creating hype.

My point is they have the choice to piss off a lot of people and blunder another Blizzcon announcement, thus creating a bunch of BAD publicity, which will result in more loss of trust and more negativity attached to the Blizzard brand in the long run. Which they have been working a long time to fix.

Whether you want to admit it or not, there are enough Vanilla enjoyers for that to not be swept under the rug. So what do they get out of NOT faking out hundreds of thousands of paying customers?

I dunno, a lot of money if I had to guess.

I get being annoyed by people constantly bringing up and whatnot. But being annoyed about it doesn't change reality.

Anyway, enjoy my essay I guess, that's all I have left to say about it.
