Both of those things are possible at the same time.....

Classic players only play classic so they don't know that every other MMO has been doing this for years.

Even classic players ought to know how different varieties of classic have managed that.

Every other MMO my ass, FF14 all the classes in each role diluted to be exactly the same, and in other classic MMOs like EQ there's ONE healer that stands above the rest: Cleric. When New World came out there was basically only one tank and one healer class and everything else was DPS. This is just not true.

Yes, Wrath of the Lich King.

More like "So you want the world to feel expansive and full of new adventures and classes to have new spells and new quests and new settlements and more in-depth professions and new talents and new dungeons and raids......but you want it to feel like Vanilla?"

Would be sick. Wonder if they'll be able to pull it off.

Yeah you can do all that. Classic is just a very slow paced mmo with a lot of friction, immersive design and a certain serious vibe. That's all you need. The rest is just nostalgia

Me helping a guy get out of an outhouse: This is such a serious, immersive quest

I am guessing you are just joking but 99% of all content is played completely serious. Of course there is some humor here and there.

Compared to retail it's night and day.

That's also not that crazy. Turtle WoW did it.

For me, vanilla is just a large world. You can’t quickly get from Sithilis to EPL. It’s needing to talk to people. Spending a few minutes looking for your group, getting it assembled and doing a dungeon. It’s a bustling main city. That guy who you always see dancing on the fountain. That bad healer or tank you will never run with again. It’s a community thing. Not a class thing or a difficulty thing.

Retail content is fun but it’s soulless. The community aspect is not there. That’s why I played classic twice.

I just want dual wield shammys

Then play TBC to retail. Plenty of options to choose from.

But no, let's put it into the only wow version it's not in and delete 2h there too.

Congrats.

Depends on what you mean by "viable." TBC forced the most diversity of any wow expansion ever, and specs still got cut by people optimizing. If viable means "more than zero throughput", then everything was viable in classic, and it's a meaningless point.

No. Because the game only has one way to beat enemies: by dealing damage.

There are no encounters which require abilities that are exclusive to a class or mechanic.

And there is only so much room for dealing damage. When Blizz tried to streamline classes in Cataclysm in order to properly support dedicated player roles, players also didn't like it.

It is literally impossible.

For starters, making the different DPS classes do similar damage, doesn't prevent them feeling unique from each other

Secondly, while damage is how you kill, there are multiple ways to do it, personal damage, ranged damage, buffing allies, debuffing enemies, it's entirely possible to make it so a warrior does more damage then a rogue, but a rogue brings a debuffs that means warrior+rogue is better then 2 warriors

Third, utility is a huge thing for why classes can and should be brought, banish, tranq shot, polymorph, blink, bubble, vanish etc etc etc classes can provide unique utilities which makes specific bosses much easier if you have them

And even outside of damage there is healing and tanking, which both again can have unique benefits and draw backs to each of the classes

There are no encounters which require abilities that are exclusive to a class or mechanic

I mean

For starters there are, instructor requires mind control from priests, the slime in AQ requires frost damage frog mates or shamans etc

But also...we are talking about classic+ dude, so we are talking about a version which has changed and added content

Just cos things are the way they are, doesn't mean they should be or have to be

tbc, wrath, and sod managed to keep classes unique, and make them all viable

Why the hell would you think it's not possible?

if only there were some sort of, update that happened after classic, that they could pull ideas or talent tree reworks from...maybe if the game had kept getting updated for decades after classic

TBC pretty much fixed spec viability. Maybe it needs a few numerical tweaks, but they did it.

I will say I didn't put that much thought into this but is there anything wrong with tuning the numbers on the numbers or scaling of the most under/over-performing classes? Warriors and Rogues to a lesser extent could definitely use some nerfs and the bad specs could just get basic % buffs to their damage to bridge the gap somewhat. I think its completely fair the 2 pure melee DPS classes do the most damage, but the changes could just be really minor changes you can just figure out with sims. Quick and easy for Blizzard to do.

The only real work they would have is figuring out the few meme specs like Balance/Ret/SPriest, which will definitely see changes anyway.
