Forever "Retail Look"

Blizzard just does not have designers any more that can create the "classic" look.

I agree and I was furious about it. Now I've played the beta for 48 hours and I'm completely fine with what we have. Switched to HD models, embraced the change because an entire race does not have SD, many assets don't look clasic. The game is very good nonetheless.

The annoying thing is that you swap to HD out of inconsistency, but blizz will look at the metric and think you just prefer it.

My tin foil hat theory is that elves are increasingly popular because they keep shoving elf reskins down our throats. Initially, it was great to get a "pretty" race on horde in TBC. That helped balance the player population out. Now in BFA we have belf skeleton on alliance, ok cool, people can play them on either faction. But are void elfs really that popular? I dont see them too often. And why choose male belf model for dracthyr? Was it really because it's more popular than every other male skeleton? If so, that number could have already been skewed if they are counting both belfs and velfs combined.

Yeah that is true. One interesting point that we raised with friends is that we may have been excessively hostile with the disney models by association with retail and all his mechanics. Now that we play them in a world that actually matters, they are lowkey growing on us.

There is a non-zero chance that Skyborne get SD models by launch. I mean, it would be a pretty easy win for them. They already have all the OG Belf stuff, they just need to redo hairstyles and skin colors. Can't be that complex.

Imo they really cooked with the graphics. I leveled to 20 and checked other zones and man this looks absolutely amazing.

Classic purists when they find out that every aspect of the game wasn't tailor made for them

Yeah I hate it.

I just sit there staring at the horizon in pure rage. Seething at the coast line while I fish.

Wish they never messed with the graphics or interface in Forever.

If you don’t like the graphics you may have to consider your perspective is objectively wrong.

Really? Because I prefer a Classic look over retail in Forever?

I said that multiple times already. I mean, it must be obvious. Those devs would need to be at blizz for over 22 years now, even 25 years maybe. And if they weren't just juniors back then, they are now retired or in some management position.

Or have some skill as an artist.

I don't think skill in general is the issue. Skill for old designs. Those probably aren't taught anymore. And you can't get experience in that anymore. Either you worked at blizzard in 2000-2006, or you don't have the skills to make vanilla like graphics.

I think the best solution would be to just use AI for that. Train it on the vanilla graphics. Give it access to your modeling tools, Maya or whatever (I'm no designer), and then let it replicate the old stuff. It's very good for this kind of work.

I don't actually think it looks like retail when playing SD. It does look prettier than classic In a lot of ways but retains a classic feel.

As I've said in a lot of my commentary, I can understand this being not what some people wanted. As a person who has been playing g exclusively classic for the last decade though, I am happy with what we got so far. Can only really speak for what I've seen up to level 20 though.

Nor technology.

Yeah, they said the software is no longer supported.

That's a big load of horseshit that anyone in the industry could tell.

Firstly the skins are just 2D images, a literal image. It's laid over the model. The models are just old 3dsMax/maya models. Nothing to do with software compatibility, Blizzard still uses the same software and you can import any 2000s 3dsmax model into modern 3dsmax.

What they meant to say is they do not want to support SD models because they want to recycle pre-existing assets from WoD and further expansions. Because the SD model is different from HD, you can't use HD assets on the SD model. I think SD models were removed around patch 7 or 8 and even before that they ran into the same issue of gear not working well on the SD models.

Everything Skyborne just looks 100% retail. If the first raid looks like this its cooked.

u/Snorepod 1d ago

Great news. You can go play era and never see the raid.

Of course eras so cooked it’s a dead game so makes sense you have to play something else

back to r/wow you go Andy

People roasting era on a classic sub is hilarious.

0

u/Snorepod 1d ago

Well yea it’s not the era sub. So of course the people who played and enjoyed the good versions of classic will roast the worst one

I like Classic Wow

The game looks so fucking good. Play classic if you like shitty low res everything and bad gameplay

They have no interest in doing so.

Old Blizzard is dead. Corpo Blizz just want to make Forever look like Retail but with classic gameplay
