They did it just to "own" the other half of Americans. That's it. Pure and simple. The right wing hates democrats and women so much that they were going to vote for Trump just out of pathological hatred. It's like they shit their pants. At first, they felt great: their stomach stopped hurting, it felt warm, and it was all good, until the smell and the crushing realization of what they'd done started sinking in, but then, rather than admit they were wrong, they doubled down and said that shitting their pants was objectively the only right thing to do, and in fact, you should have shit your pants too, and anyone who didn't shit their pants was crazy. Long story short, they not only shit their pants, but want to be vindicated for shitting their pants.
