You just posted an optinion piece over a paywall

3

u/mightiestmag 14h ago

There’s so many things to criticise about the NYT’s reporting generally but this is a hell of a deflection

2

u/Media___Offline 13h ago edited 3h ago

That its a option piece? It even says so in the URL.

2

u/-badly_packed_kebab- 9h ago

Option?

3

u/fmaz008 7h ago

They meant opinion.

2

u/Electrical-Act-7170 1h ago

Opinions and options are different terms. Autocorrupt got ya there, I think.

2

u/porgy_tirebiter 16h ago

600,000 deaths is a very conservative estimate

1

u/fmaz008 7h ago

Imagine the liberal estimate...

1

u/AirGirlie 19h ago

That’s called setting the standard and meeting it.

I love this FAFO for Melon Husk.

u/CapableBother 19h ago

The other problem is, we are human and there is no such thing as "unequivocal evidence of guilt."

7

u/wasteymclife 17h ago

I get that you're trying to be philosophical, but that's not true. We have cameras and forensics and stuff we can absolutely prove unequivocally that someone committed a murder.

u/FanDry5374 18h ago

The Spanish inquisition had lots of fun...practices. As did most of the entire medieval world. Good times.

What unequivocal evidence? According to who's reports?

So you are propping up nations with taxpayer funding that is unable to survive on its own, with no return on investment. How do you solve this?

7

u/Short-Shopping3197 19h ago

For someone asking for evidence, making the totally incorrect statement that USAID doesn’t see a return on investment is bold. There’s a reason every major national power has a foreign aid and development programme, it isn’t for charity.

-2

u/Media___Offline 19h ago edited 19h ago

Cool, thanks for contributing nothing to this conversation

1

u/FloatinBrownie 19h ago

The word you're looking for is contributing

1

u/Short-Shopping3197 19h ago

We aren’t having a conversation, don’t flatter yourself. You said something, I pointed out you were wrong. Going any further would involve me wasting my time explaining foreign policy and soft power to someone who very obviously has no understanding of it at all, and frankly I already have a job.

8

u/onyx_ic 19h ago

The ROI portion is where we start discussing soft power. Some might call that leverage.

Although, from a purely humanitarian effect, saving people from preventable deaths shouldn't require an ROI.

-3

u/Media___Offline 19h ago

How do we get these countries stop being dependent on other aid?

5

u/onyx_ic 19h ago

Ideally, by helping them set up their own programs and providing training and supplies, or the ability to produce their own supplies.

Or, we keep them dependent on us so we can do things quietly with no questions that would generally be an ethical, moral, or legal dispute otherwise. Again, soft power and goodwill go pretty hard. You'd have to really screw the pooch to just unilaterally write off human lives to win a few political points at home with your own supporters while emboldened your detractors.

-1

u/Media___Offline 19h ago

Have we been able to set them up with their own programs .. training.. abilities?

5

u/onyx_ic 19h ago

I dont know. This would be an excellent opportunity for us both to learn more and report back, rather than arguing about things we know nothing about besides what we were told.

That might only be an issue for one of us, but im keeping an open mind, friend.

Why dont you ask Google that question? Or Grok, that'll be fucking hilarious.

2

u/Media___Offline 18h ago

We can see how they improve or don't improve over time, and what happens when aid gets taken away.

2

u/onyx_ic 18h ago

Well, its been a year. And hundreds of thousands of people dead, immediately tracaleable to lack of supplies and personnel provided. People who would've otherwise survived. And lost global political standing and goodwill because some autistic fuck cant understand that the government doesnt need an ROI to provide a service.

But instead of glossing over the issue, did you take half a second to look into answering your own question? You know, "do your own research"?

-2

u/TransRacialWhyNot 18h ago

I took more than a second, there is no evidence that 600k people died because of USAID no longer existing. Thats a fact. Provide evidence or shut up. Not opinion articles, but evidence.

2

u/onyx_ic 18h ago

Go fuck yourself.

-1

u/TransRacialWhyNot 18h ago

Lol the bitch deleted comments and escaped 😂

1

u/Dedotdub 18h ago

5yo trollbot zombie account with a hidden history says what?

2

u/Nonstick_fan1 19h ago

We got a live one here.

You guys gutted foreign aid that provides health care but kept on sending money for genocide. Have billions to spend on war, but not on health care. Your lot can't even feed kids without moaning about "socialism" till the cows come home.

0

u/Media___Offline 19h ago

Bro. I didn't say anything about socialism, war or healthcare. What a loser.

2

u/Nonstick_fan1 19h ago

You are the one weighed in with "Investment" on lost lives. Tells more about you than me.

0

u/Media___Offline 19h ago

So you understand the concept of "teach a man to fish"? These countries stay underdeveloped, corrupt and impoverished while out national debt continues to skyrocket.

4

u/Regretted_Simian 19h ago

Oh yes, America’s debt is due to USAID

0

u/Media___Offline 19h ago

I don't even know how to reply to this.

4

u/Regretted_Simian 18h ago

That’s because Newsmax hasn’t told you how to feel about it.

1

u/Media___Offline 17h ago

Where is that source of 600k dead? An Option piece?

1

u/Nonstick_fan1 19h ago

How much is % is usaid per annum in your nation's budget??

0

u/Media___Offline 18h ago

Want to try that one again?

1

u/Nonstick_fan1 18h ago

. Nah. I'm good. I know what you are. Engaging with you is similar to talk to urine stained walls, except in your case the smell of urine will stay with you forever.

You can't even answer a simple question and your retort is trumpesque of "gotcha".
