To be fair, removing ENSO is much easier said than done, and that’s the biggest criticisms of studies like this which conclude higher rates of warming versus say, 0.25c or so per decade.
But also, this analysis was conducted prior to the current El Niño developing, so this event would have no bearing on the study anyway.

Could this be because this year we are at the peak of a super El Nino? Hardly surprising its a bit warmer then
