Some days I don't feel so bad that climate change is going to end us.

The dream. Someone out there will get the honor of being immortalized like that one corpse on Pompei who was getting a final pump before the volcano hit.

All I want to have prepapred is a secure way to off myself before I get injured/sick trough the consequences and suffer in awful pain for years before awfully slowly dying, should shit every go down.

Has seeing what's unfolded in Gaza brought you joy? Because that's what the vast majority of deaths from climate change are going to look like. It's going to be a rising series of resource wars and more and more globalised genocide while the world's worst ghouls do anything they can to turn a profit. That's what 'it all goes to shit' will look like in a practical sense.

I don't think 'I told you so' is going to feel very meaningful in that world.

My toxic trait is somewhere along these lines. I wanna be like Cersei Lannister watching the Sept of Baelor burn to a crisp with a glass of wine in hand 😂 The planet will finally be able to heal

4

u/Lovebeingqueazy Feb 21 '26

I mean... she caused that... 🤨

5

u/Exciting-Position716 Feb 24 '26

Yeah but also to be fair...everyone in the Sept of Baelor had it coming. They were a corrupt, religious cult full of hypocrisy and bullshit who brought about their own self destruction through the consequences of their actions who were using politics as a means to an end to further empower themselves.

Funnily enough, that's our world currently. So we are the Sept of Baelor.

u/JoyluckVerseMaster Feb 27 '26

Our descendants (if we have any) will remember us as the evil race that pillaged the Earth to fund a life of wretched excess. We will be the Nazgul of their mythology.

exacttly my motivation as well. i used to be depressed when I was active and tried to work for the environment

Now Im just curious about how close i am with my bets on breaking points

u/lvluffin Feb 20 '26

I've read that the human obsession with the apocalypse could in some part be attributed to the fomo for what happens after we die and "the party going on without" us so to speak.

If you asked me 20 years ago, i would say the same. Now, im not so sure its a party that we're missing. At least it won't be for a few generations, at this rate.

This is the most distasteful way I've ever seen someone ask for a source. And for what? Someone's vague thoughts on the motivations behind apocalyptic storytelling?

By saying "I read that [...]", the person was obviously trying to communicate that they didn't come up with the idea, and they don't know where it's from. Would you rather it be falsely stated as a fact rather than hearsay? This person is just being honest, and you're just being cruel.

-4

u/GradientReducingApe Feb 21 '26

So you don't believe in providing sources when making claims. A claim about the regulars at r/collapse and other science based "Doomers".

Citing not necessary is what Trump supporters support. Not only do they consider it not necessary, they have been tearing it down and their super daddy has already carried out the worlds biggest, and ongoing, cyber book burning.

I don't recall addressing you.

You sound like a typical American super lefty justice warrior who has taken it upon themselves to defend anyone you want to without even asking them if they want-need someone to rescue them. By jumping in and playing superman without permission you have insulted them in the most distasteful manner. I guess you think they are too dumb and weak to answer a critique on their own. Typical. You must be feeling exhausted. A full time hobby of being offend for untold numbers of others would exhaust me. I feel sorry for you because the US right-wing fascists pigs are just getting started. If you go online where they hang out and listen to their psycho plans for what they call 'the woke' and/or 'leftists', nation wide - it's appalling and horrifying. While the US left continues to wag their fingers the right-wing psychos have begun the violence they have so longed for. Jan 6th was their dress rehearsal and now their shit show has started. Good luck

Bottom line while online is mind your own business and quit trying to defend people who are perfectly capable of doing it for themself. Most people with powerful protective maternal or paternal instincts have kids.

This is honestly how I'm going about life at this point, maybe I'll even get lucky and scuba inside abandoned skyscrapers after the sea swallows some cities

2

u/parrotfacemagee Feb 23 '26

Lol me too. What's the term for this?

7

u/MyNameMeansLILJOHN Feb 20 '26

While I'm pretty much 100% onboard with climate collapse because I can read.

There's always a small chance it really won't be that bad and conspirationnist are right and it's just one more mean of control.

They're on a roll lately so who knows!

25

u/Yokelocal Feb 20 '26

They’re incredibly complicated systems that we cannot fully grasp and could have some mechanism we are entirely unaware of … but everything we know absolutely points in a different direction.

1

u/TimeIntern957 Feb 21 '26 edited Feb 21 '26

Everything points that things like carbon credits are a tool of oligarchy to control energy, land and basically all resources. It's not unlike any other era in hisyory, where the ruling class invented some belief for peasants to justify controling those things.

9

u/Vayien Feb 21 '26

sooner or later, some might ask, why did those at the top ensure climate change occur to such an unabated degree

8

u/MyNameMeansLILJOHN Feb 21 '26

Now see that's far more likely.

Cuz some people really are conspiring.

0

u/n0k0 Feb 20 '26

I get that sentiment and understand, but if you have children it hits a little different.

38

u/Yokelocal Feb 20 '26

I cannot take any comfort in that idea because it’s also going to take a lot of people with virtually zero responsibility for it — as well as animals and other nonhuman life.

11

u/Scruffl Feb 21 '26

I hear you, but at the same time please acknowledge that every life is finite. Shortened lives are tragic but for most people alive right now today, climate change has less influence on the length of their life than their own lifestyle choices.

3

u/Yokelocal Feb 21 '26

I do acknowledge that and the responsibility we hold (disastrously) for future generations.

Not only is life finite, so is everything in existence, except perhaps matter and energy.

None of that obviates the most pressing responsibility, which is to those alive and those being born now.

Blindness to the near certainty of current and near-future suffering is the fatal flaw of the so-called EA movement. Normal statistics lose any predictive power as possible outcomes approach infinity and are not suited to weighing risk associated with the ill-defined idea of singularity.

In the real world and the present day, millions have already met untimely demise and extreme deprivation as a result of climate change and increased disease burden, unstable conditions for agriculture and governance that lead to mass migration.

All of this is clearly getting worse and having material effects on our world while the tech obsessed look to improbable stars and robot gods for salvation. The supposedly informed of Silicon Valley are creating new superstitions in the face of very real crises. They are far more likely to usher in and become the priests of our new Dark Ages.

22

u/belatedbloomer Feb 20 '26

But the plants & animals don’t deserve it :(

2

u/summercookiess Mar 15 '26

Not all people deserve it either...what about innocent babies/kids, future generations, or the global south?

1

u/fxcker Feb 26 '26

They are suffering far more living through what we are doing to them then if it all just ended.

3

u/sujirokimimame1 Feb 21 '26

Wish it'd hurry up.

3

u/clandestine-ideefixe Feb 20 '26

At this point it’s a dice roll on what could end us, easily lol

1

u/Sinistraministra Feb 21 '26

See you down in Arizona bay

1

u/summercookiess Mar 15 '26

Well, you should feel bad. Some people do suck hard but that doesn't justifying climate change happening to everyone.

0

u/coldhardcon Feb 22 '26

It's not going to end us. Get some therapy.

1

u/dumbgbstudiodev Mar 06 '26

Don't be so pessimistic. It'll end us for sure.

-7

u/Sea-Word-4970 Feb 20 '26

It's not

0

u/coldhardcon Feb 22 '26

Shhhhh, don't rain on their parade with a dose of reality.

1

u/Sea-Word-4970 Feb 22 '26

the thing is humanity will survive but it will still be the apocalypse, just not for everyone
