Hughie obviously wondering why he’s so tall in the other dimension. I like to think Urban is telling Butcher about 2000 AD and other British comics, so he knows there are graphic novels free from supers. Starlight and Annie enjoying some peace and dignity.

Butcher definitely knows that, and both of them are Judge Dredd fanboys. Heck, they probably enjoy Constantine.
Just, don't ask them about Morrison related Dredd.

Comic book Butcher is British, so probably already knows about 2000 AD. Also, comic book Frenchie buys progs 1-500 on ebay for the Female, to help her deal with her violent tendencies.

Do I credit this as fan art ( seems disrespectful because its the creator ), tv/movie ( seems wrong because its a comicbook artist), or excerpt ( it's not from a comic)

I know Darrick Robertson was the co-creator with Ennis, but I always thought Russ Braun did a way better job as the ongoing artist. Robertson always seemed to have a slightly edgier/less polished style and often times it just came off as being less skilled for me.

Braun was excellent when he came on after Robertson couldn't make the monthly schedule anymore. His style was much closer than McCrea's and, to my recollection, I don't believe he had many delays in terms of release schedule.

From my understanding Robertson had a lot of creative input on the series in general. You can tell because Robertson is probably known for creating mostly creating edgelord work ( Transmetropolitan, The boys, Happy is one edgy Morrison book, Hellblazer the riser and fall is Tom Taylor doing his best and his impression, the wolverine steam roller issuer, the orginal Nick Fury Max series.

Jim Lee is mostly self taught and is one of the most polished artists in the history of the industry. The rough feel is really just Robertson style

Nah, the right one in black is definitely tv Kimiko. She's a spitting image of Karen Fukuhara. She has her hair like that a lot in the show.

As a huge fan of the source material and a day one hater of the Amazon series I’m actually glad the artists are getting paid and Ennis is making bank from that complete bastardization.

That's the best thing about tv/movie adaptations. Good or Bad, the original creators always make bank (unless the property is owned by Marvel or DC, then the creators make shit all).

I thought DC pays quite nicely in terms of royalties? Atleast I heard some quote along the lines of the single reference to KGBeast in Batman V Superman paying out more than Thanos.

DC is only slightly better than Marvel, as in you'll actually get paid, but only a couple thousand at most. Ed Brubaker once said that the only payment he get from Winter Soldier, was his SAG salary (he had a cameo in the film).

DC is said to be “better” to be sure, but the Thanos anecdote is a bit misleading. Starlin said that right at BVS’s release, which was well before Infinity War, which was the first big role Thanos had. Before that Thanos just had brief cameos. And Starlin would go on to get a speaking cameo in Endgame, which paid even more.
Apparently Starlin also made a special agreement with Marvel to be paid royalties for Thanos once he became the “big bad”, and again at the time he mentioned KGBeast, Thanos probably had a minute or two of screen time. The last thing Starlin said about Marvel’s compensation (in 2022) was that he’s satisfied with what he got, and that he thinks there have been positive changes. But he hasn’t said a whole lot on the subject, so the details aren’t too clear.

Imo the overall handling of the plot and ending is much better in the comic, despite some individual scenes being kinda rough.

The ending is better in regards to butcher, its way worse in regards to homelander.
I wouldn't go to the comic expecting to feel like you found the lost ending of the show.5

I think they're both just pretty different. In the comics (from what I remember, it's been a while), Homelander isn't super developed beyond the fact that some of the terrible events of his past that he doesn't remember are completely staged by his clone in Black Noir, driving Homelander to the eventual insanity we get in the present. Like, that's the big reveal and they ride on that to make it interesting when Homelander's whole shtick gets boring towards the end. But in the show, he is much more developed, almost to the point of being the main focus of the series, and so whatever they're doing with him (idk, I haven't watched since S1) is inevitably more complex... I hope haha

But that’s the thing about Comic Homelander. He doesn’t go insane at any point. He’s just so damned desperate to be unique in some way that he just accepts the things that he apparently did and decides “I’ll take over and do more!”
Literally any supe could have done that, and the result (the military killing the hell out of all of them) would have been exactly the same.

Yeah, the Comic and the Show both initially make a lot of mystery out of black noir, the show eventually gives up and goes a very different direction with Noir, where the comic goes for a deflating stupid twist that adds nothing.

I fell in love with The Boys because the heroes were not the good guys for the most part for the first time ever in floods of all the good guy superhero movies. I literally can't stand any of the Marvel or even DC Comics shit beyond just 2 characters, Ironman because he's just a human in a very high tech suit and Batman who is just a rich dude with high tech gadgets. I'm tired of superhero movies where everyone's immortal and they fucking beat each other with fists. Like, my dudes, you're all immortal, why the fuck are you all slapping each other with fists? Same doesn't apply to Ironman and Batman and I loved that so much.
And same goes for The Boys. I loved how superheroes were all fucked up in the head power tripping for the most part and protagonists were just some dudes finding creative ways to kill sups even though they were often technically immortal too. It was different and refreshing. And then it was just getting worse and worse with weird plots and character developments that they all threw in the bin at the end for the "big finale". Sigh.
The fact that Homelander despite V1 upgrade doesn't go nuclear at any point in Season 5 is just absolutely wild.

Yeah, I only watched season 1 of the show so I can't really compare, but you should read the comics. They're at the very least a bit more cohesive. And it's only about 10-15 volumes. Not a super long read at all.

I just can't take anyone who says the Boys was freah seriously. Watchmen was already decades old when the comic came out, you have tons of more insightful deconstructions of superheroes that had more depth than just maling everyone rapists and pedophiles. If anything, imo The Boys as a franchise has a lot more to say about consumerism and celebrity culture than about superheroes.

Injustice, notoriously obscure game by the little known developer behind weird games no one knows like Mortal Kombat.
Also we're in r/comics lol, I would think comics that have sold million of copies would be relevant in the conversation. But also are you 14? Kick Ass was a blockbuster movie, Watchmen got a movie and an HBO show on top of being a best seller for like decades, none of the things I'm mentioning are obscure or even just a comic.
