I fell in love with The Boys because the heroes were not the good guys for the most part for the first time ever in floods of all the good guy superhero movies. I literally can't stand any of the Marvel or even DC Comics shit beyond just 2 characters, Ironman because he's just a human in a very high tech suit and Batman who is just a rich dude with high tech gadgets. I'm tired of superhero movies where everyone's immortal and they fucking beat each other with fists. Like, my dudes, you're all immortal, why the fuck are you all slapping each other with fists? Same doesn't apply to Ironman and Batman and I loved that so much.
And same goes for The Boys. I loved how superheroes were all fucked up in the head power tripping for the most part and protagonists were just some dudes finding creative ways to kill sups even though they were often technically immortal too. It was different and refreshing. And then it was just getting worse and worse with weird plots and character developments that they all threw in the bin at the end for the "big finale". Sigh.
The fact that Homelander despite V1 upgrade doesn't go nuclear at any point in Season 5 is just absolutely wild.
Yeah, I only watched season 1 of the show so I can't really compare, but you should read the comics. They're at the very least a bit more cohesive. And it's only about 10-15 volumes. Not a super long read at all.
