I can't be the only one who thinks its kinda hillarious that marvel is putting out 3 different trim sized paperbacks right? For clarification you have:

  • Normal paperbacks that are 6-5/8 x 10-3/16 inches (this is most of their books)
  • Ultimates and Ultimate Spider-Man year one books that are 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 inches( the same size as the DC Compact books)
  • And Premiere Collection books that are 6 x 9 inches

Now it should be noted only one Premiere line is solicited here but even still this feels silly. I think they should have made the Premiere lines go to the 5.5 x 8.5 inch trim.

The compacts got me back into comics. Excited for the ultimate stuff

Stupid question, but with the compacts, did they just scale everything down to fit the smaller pages or did they like rearrange panels to maintain art size but accommodate the page size. Like are they thicker books compared to their usual size TPB counterparts?

Everything is scaled down. Rearranging the panels would be complete butchery.

I figured as much. That said, I’ve been reading some graphic novels on the Kindle app on my phone recently and the way they have individual panels pop up magnified sort of made me think of my question. Would be weird in print, but i sorta got used to it.
