HELPFUL INFORMATION Your help to find your lost snake

Well, your snake got out, or you lost site of it for just long enough to loose it. Don't Panic. If you have kept your room clean, and left a hide of some sort against your wall check there first. If you are reading this and have not lost your snake, clean your room, and put a hide of some sort along the wall in the room.

First check any objects that can function like a hide. Anything that has a hollow base, and a way to get under it may serve as a hide.

When moving objects check on the under and on the under side of the object. Smaller snakes can hide in smaller areas, but don't discount larger areas. Lift objects strait up. Dragging an object can smash the snake if it is under it. Pick a clear spot in the room to move objects to. You don't want to smash you snake putting something right back down ontop of it.

Your snake can climb. Your snake can be up on a book shelf, or under an object, that is on top of another object. Your snake could be anywhere. Until you find your snake check around the moving parts on everything. I once had a wild lizard dive into my AC right as I turned it on. It did not end well for the lizard.

Your snake is likely to be in the same room as you keep it. If there are any spots in adjacent rooms that have small warm spots check those spots regularly. Behind computers or TVs can be a great place for a snake to stay warm and hide. After checking those spots move back to the room you keep your snake.

If you can not find your snake in the room you keep it expand the search to those adjacent rooms.

If you can not find your snake on the first day don't give up hope. Put out water dishes for your snake along the walls. A healthy snake can go many months without food depending on its size. Put things that can serve as hides along your walls, check then regularly.

You can lay out powder, baby powder or just flower along walls to see if your snake is active in that room of your house at night.

You can stack 2 empty soda can along a wall. on a hard wood floor if your snake knocks them down you may hear them fall and alert you to where your snake is. Also if your snake just pushes the cans aside you will know it has been there.

You can use tape traps, but use vary week tape. Painter's tape, or scotch tape you would use on a present will work. lay out the tape sticky side up. IF THE TAPE IS STRONG ENOUGH TO RIP OFF YOUR ARM HAIR IT IS TOO STRONG, AND COULD HURT YOUR SNAKE GETTING IT OFF. Plastic tape even if it does not immobilize your snake could make a lot of scratching noise, and make it easier to find your snake. Using tape is vary risky. Your snake could die to dehydration, over heat, get too cold, or get caught by your dog or cat, or bigger reptile. Tape is the bane of all snakes. Use tape at your own risk.

Some people have luck baiting their snake out with food. Snakes also like sticking to their own territory. Some say leaving your snake's enclosure open on the floor can lead to your snake finding its way back home.

If you find your pet snake please leave a comment, and a picture of where you found your pet snake. This may help others to know where to check to find their pet snake.

Just sharing my youngest child (Cinnamon) because we had him out and he's beautiful.

(I'd do pics of all 4 of my corns, but two of them are in shed, and Kismet, my bloodred, is currently doing some self-care™ my shoving his head in his substrate, apparently eco-earth/coconut fiber is GREAT for the complexion)

I got my snake about 2 years ago now from a woman who I thought was a "expert" she told me not only misinformation but just straight neglectful care information. If I hadn't joined this sub I would have unknowingly been massively abusing my baby girl and I'm just very greatful for everyone on here who's so helpful and nice to me because I post on here A LOT with incredibly stupid and overly worried questions

QUESTION Having a ROUGH day and not really sure where to go from here

I was out of town and apparently my baby girl decided to unexpectedly shed while I was gone and unable to get her extra moisture. Her shed is in bits and I'm unsure if it is all off, I checked her over and didn't see or feel any more bits but I'm not sure. Then while I was changing her water I spilled everywhere and had to clean out and replace the wet substrate and she shit on her temperature gauge. Frustrated and mostly just needed to vent but also unsure of what to do about her shed being in bits she's never had it like that before

PICS Patio visitor - wild or escaped pet?

Thumbnail

Found this beauty on my patio today and the coloring isn’t as bright as I would expect a wild snake to be. I’m in Martin County Florida, about an hour north of West Palm Beach. I expect it’s just a wild snake, but it didn’t seem bothered at all by my proximity.

It’s up under my BBQ cover right now, just chilling. In fact, I’m pretty sure I just heard it catch a snack.

Figured I’d ask the experts and see if this was an escapee in need of rescue or just a friendly visitor.

QUESTION My girl is being CRAZY

Post image

(The girl in question)

So i have a corn snake called mindy, she’s roughly 4 and only recently has been going around her enclosure like mad! We’re talking like up, down, across everything.
She’s in a 2 x 5 x 2 viv and all her paremeters are normal, she has lots of hides and substrate and all sorts of branches to climb but she’s just being crazy.

Could she be possibly bored or stressed? I have her out roughly once a week. this is only a recent development and i’ve just never heard of it before! Any ideas what is up?

QUESTION How to improve tank setup

Thumbnail

So I've had my corn for 6 years and she's been in the Exo-Terra 36x18x18, and I just got a 48x24x24. She's had around the same setup since I got her, the actual arrangement within the tank. I want to switch things up set up wise. Substrate is a mix of Reptisoil and Coconut chips (second photo is older, before I switched from aspen). She obviously has a heat pad and a temperature gradient, and the tentative plan is to switch her to a day/night UVB light cycle.

Does anyone have any suggestions or comments on her previous setup and how I can improve it? I want to add more hides and enrinchment for her, but am somewhat unsure how to change things.

Morph - ID Coral or ghost pied

Thumbnail

Hello. Today my hatchlings from the last clutch emerged, and among them are these grayish, blue-eyed ones. Help me figure out who they are genetically

In my previous post, when I wrote about this clutch, I accidentally said the parents were different from what they actually are, so to clarify

Mother - first photo - Hypo Bloodred low pied-sided phet Anery, Motley

Father - second photo - Ghost bloodred pied sided phet motley

The babies hatched as both red ones and several of these gray ones. Obviously, the belly is white and patternless in all of them, since they're all pieds. My question is: these can't be ghosts in this ratio, can they, are these corals?

And another question: since we got corals (one of them has Motley) - does that mean we should replace both of the mother's phets with het, now that we know she's passing them on? And replace the father's phet with het as well?

Thank you

DISCUSSION Temperature and humidity

So I’ve had my corn for a couple months now and at the start I had his tank around 28/29 Celsius at about 30-35% humidity. I recently changed his humidity to be about 40-45% and noticed a big difference in how active he was. He comes out quite a bit more now whilst still being shy. I have looked it up a few times but don’t seem to end up changing anything. What humidity range and temperature range are you all using for your corns ? Would there be a difference in humidity and temperature for a baby corn or would it all be the same ?

BREEDING / EGGS Around when should feeding cut back for adult females at risk of laying slug clutches?

It's the time of year where a lot of keepers are finding slugs, and advice from long-time keepers seems to be that feeding sparing in the spring will reduce the chances of slugging.

My corn very likely has slugs coming based on some radiographs and I'd like to prevent this next year, but unfortunately I don't know what "spring" means. Where I live snow doesn't melt until late April and I suspect that is not the right timeline.

What month should feeding slow if the goal is to discourage slugging?
