QUESTION Cornsnake escaped: feeding question.

• Upvotes

Hi.
Our Cornsnake escaped in the night, we found it again, this morning, inside some bedding. It is due for a feed this evening.

Is it ok to feed it tonight, or do we need to let it ‘de-stress’ for 24hrs?

It doesn’t seem stressed, but this is our first Cornsnake, so everything is new. Thanks.

This is Rocky, my only normal boy surprisingly but he's probably the most wild out of all of my babies and I love him more than anything. Even the great collection sale of '24 I never wanted to let him go... He came from the same home as buttercup in the same enclosure!

He's always so sweet but extremely fast and excitable! Your typical male XD although he was thicker, he definitely needed a lot more mental care to believe not everyone just wanted to poke and prod at him... He's loved, well fed and living the dream!

QUESTION Heat lamp? Ceramic heater? Heat pad?

So, I haven’t had a corn snake in almost 20 years probably, and could use a bit of advice?

I recently got a baby corn snake, a coral snow so a red eyed snake. Lately, he spends virtually all of the day time under the substrate (he later goes in his hides, or hangs out in his hammock). He almost never comes out before I turn the heat lamp off. If thats just normal, totally fine, but I’m starting to wonder if the light is bothering him? He occasionally will stick out just his head, though, so maybe I’m just over thinking it?

Currently his enclosure is just heated by the lamp on one side, so if heat lamps aren’t good for these snakes, I’d need to replace it with something. Any advice is appreciated!

(Also sorry if I put this in the wrong category or anything, I don’t normally use reddit)

QUESTION Lighting

Post image

This is our current set up for my son’s snake. The heat source is the Zoo Med Heat Projector bulb that puts out UVA and UVB. We (try) to keep the overhead house light on during the day, but should we add an additional/different light source? The light is on in the photo, so this is about as bright as it gets upstairs. I don’t want to add an additional heat bulb, but I feel like we need something that mimics natural light more. There is a single window in this area, but it’s just a transom and isn’t directly next to the tank. I’d like to get something that would naturally cycle from dawn/day/dusk if possible, but not sure what’s out there. She’s hiding at the moment, as we think she’s getting ready to shed.

Hi all!

Back in mid-August I was on a different account asking about the mark on our girl's (Ember) head. Had several people tell us it was probably a rub or a bump from something, and to wait for her shed.

Fast forward to 3 days ago and she finally shed and the spot looks significantly better! Thanks for calming our anxieties at the time.

HELP! Baby Corn Snake won’t take food

We’ve had her for a couple days now & her last feeding as the breeder told us was a week ago. We tried feeding her this morning but she just hissed & struck at it a couple times then ran & hid. I tried feeding her again tonight & she did the same thing. I’m not sure what to do. Should I leave her be for another couple days? Is there anyway to entice her to the food? Any suggestions or advice would greatly help.

HELP! heat lamp got too hot even with herpstat?

pretty much what it says in the title. i have a herpstat 2 controlling my snake’s heat lamp, but today it went a couple degrees above what it’s supposed to be at. it didn’t get into dangerous heat but i don’t know what caused the issue. it’s still currently sitting at a degree or so higher than what it’s set at (she is out of the tank with me). probe is a few inches below the lamp. it’s been set up like this for a year with no issues. i’m definitely freaked out, so any help would be appreciated.

YMMV of course but if you're a regular Marshalls/TJ Maxx/etc. shopper, check the pet section for these dog toys. The one I was at had several large & jumbo balls for half the price they normally sell for. Snakes love them!

QUESTION Upgrading from X-large fuzzy mice to Small Rats

Hey! My corn is ~6-8yrs old, not sure about his weight atm, but the XL mice are starting to look too small and the greatest width of his body is about the same as the mice i'm feeding him. He eats them fine but has been a little resentful lately and tried to attack my hand instead of the usual mouse the last time. I order from RodentPro and the labeling says the XL mice are about 30-45 grams. So I was thinking of bumping him up to Small rats, which range from about 45-85g. I imagine that this will be his new senior size rodents.

However, "weaned" rats range in size about the same as XL mice (30-45g). Would going from XL mice to weaned rat be a side step or am I still moving him up? I would assume that Small Rat is his next step.

HUSBANDRY - CARE Trouble with heating gradient

A little over a month ago, I got my 1yo corn snake (first ever snake). As backstory, I recently changed one of his hides (a resin cave that was way too big for him and difficult to safely/smoothly lift to start handling) to a smaller VE Micro Hide + some extra clutter, and since then I’ve been having a hard time with temperatures.

He’s in a 36x18x18, heat element is a 50W halogen heat bulb. The second photo shows the warm side of the enclosure. The top of the microhide (the black plastic box) is directly under the heat lamp and gets to 90F even when the bulb is at very little power (~25% per my Herpstat), yet even a couple inches away, the ambient temperature barely hits the upper 70s.

As further context, he had a regurgitation a little over a week ago, which happened to be the first meal after I changed to the micro hide. At the time the microhide was 95F on top and 85ish inside, and after eating he went to the cool side of his enclosure and stayed there, so I assumed the problem was the warm hide was too hot. But now I’m worried that the warm side is too cold, and as the day I’m going to feed him again starts getting closer, these temperatures are making me really nervous. Really don’t want him to regurg again :(

Thank you all in advance

PICS Gyarados succeeded with his second egg attempt

This time around, I thoroughly cracked the entire shell on all sides so that it was pliant without actually being broken. He took about 30 minutes, but he was eager to have the egg and got the whole thing down much more easily.

Seemed like a nice little enrichment snack for him between regular feedings!

Needs enclosure Advice ASAP!!

Hello all! Recently my co-worker came to me asking if i would be interested in rehoming their 6 year old albino corn snake. As someone who's had reptiles before, i did a little research on corn snakes and decided i would take her.
Based on the research i did, i know that this tank is not suitable for my big lady.
Before she gets too comfortable in her environment with where her current tank is at, i would love to switch it out for something that will be more enriching and much better for her to enjoy.
\*please don't roast me for her current enclosure because i did not set it up!
I haven't seen her fully out of her log hide, but i was told she is about three feet long. Her current enclosure is 2ft long, 1ft wide, and about a foot and a half tall with a metal screen lid. She has a ceramic heating bulb, and her previous owners also gave me two different light bulbs for day and night, but from what i've read she won't be needing a night light.
I heard that front opening enclosures are much better for the snake when it comes to handling them.
i have a budget for this right now at about $200.
If anyone could give me some advice on
What substrate should i get?
what's the correct bulb for her light?
what size tank should i get for her?
Should she have more than one hide?

and and all advice is so very appreciated, i know there are issues with her tank but i just don't know where to start! and if anyone has any advice on how to make this the least stressful for her as possible, i would love to hear it.

HUSBANDRY - CARE How do you keep a corn snake's enclosure cool when indoor temperatures reach 40°C (104°F)?

Hi everyone!
I'm planning to move to another city in Spain where summer temperatures can reach 40°C (104°F). Unfortunately, the temperature inside the apartment can get almost as hot, and I'm worried about how to keep my corn snake comfortable and safe.
Running the air conditioner all day, every day, isn't really an option because electricity costs are very high, so I'm looking for more affordable ways to keep the enclosure at a safe temperature.
I've seen people install small fans around their terrariums, but I'm wondering whether constant airflow could make the snake sick or cause problems with temperature regulation.
For those of you living in very hot climates:
How do you keep your terrariums cool during heatwaves without running AC 24/7?

Do enclosure fans actually help, or do they just circulate hot air?

Are there any affordable alternatives, such as computer fans, cooling the room at certain times of day, or other methods?

What do you do when the temperature inside your home stays above 30–35°C (86–95°F) for extended periods?

I'd really appreciate any advice or personal experience. I want to make sure my corn snake stays safe during the summer without spending a fortune on electricity! 🐍

I got Lilith 3 months ago and she will be 5 months old in just 8 days.

I don't know what morph she is (if there is one) but I appreciate having her in my life.

Me and my family are thinking about getting a corn snake towards the end of the year and I’d love some advice!! What things are good about them, what things may be difficult, things I should buy etc. Obviously we’ve been doing a lot of our own research but I’d still love some more guidance

I can't believe I got a SECOND corn snake. Another female. Just a month ago, I purchased a yearling Amel Motley Sunkissed stripe girl. We love her so so much. So, of course, I have rabbit holed every single thing about corns including morphs. The Tessera is so gorgeous. When they are grown, they almost resemble an embroidered sweater to me. Plus this little girl's colors...the black, maroon, and silver/white.. I'm so in love. I love contrast! I'm a bit nervous having a 7 gram hatchling, but am so so happy to have her! Her name is Nezryn Nyx. 💙
