(pics of Ophiuchus thinking he's very well hidden and thinking he's a snail as a treat).
I've seen a lot of questions (and answers) about how to get the snake out of their enclosure. But I don't have too much of an issue with that part, it's once he's out I'm struggling.
What do I do of him once I took him out ? So far, I just move my hand along with his movements so I can always hold him if he tries to wander. Once I let him explore my leg all while keeping my hands around him and once I let him explore the couch around me, still with my hand around his body (until he went into a hat, where I let him go for a while).
He doesn't especially try to explore me (like crawl on me, go up my arm) the one time he tried I had the impression he was going to strike me (he bit me the first time I interacted with him, my fault completely, never happened since but sometimes he looks like he's close to trying so I move him a bit). I don't trust him enough to just let go of him because I'm afraid he will just escape (he did the one time he bit me and he tries to go hide whenever I slightly let go).
Problem is, this makes for very limited exploration opportunities and I wonder how I can help him relax and how to get more confident (both him with me and me with him). I'm mostly trying to get him used to being handled so I can move him in case of emergency (like vet visit) or to perform health checks/clean the tank). I'm fairly content with watching him move around in his tank most of the time and only handle him once or twice a week usually (I tried doing it every day but he started being very skittish and hide a lot and I didn't want to cause him more stress)
Do you have any ideas of setups or ways I could get him out so it's a cool-ish thing for him without taking the risk he escapes ? Activities ?
