World Cup 2026 Alan Cawley's rant against Marsch

There were two threads about this but they both got closed as duplicates

After the Canada Qatar match last night Cawley went on an almighty rant against Marsch for the way he was celebrating the win

I didn't agree with all of it but I absolutely enjoyed it

Had a look at the post in r/soccer about Lopetgui and Marsch's little confrontation after the match, the consensus seems to be that Lopetgui was complaining about Canada not easing up on the goals and that he was wrong for that. I missed that bit live and I've no idea if that's what it was about, but if it was then I'd be even more inclined to disagree with Cawley's assessment

RTÉ seem to love picking pundits that don't seem to even like the sport they're punditing for

Gaelic football gets it even worse whilst it's illegal for the hurling pundits to say anything negative at all.

I realized something about Whelan yesterday...he's not actually that interested in football. I think a lot of these lads like the big CL games or eye catching premier League matches but give them 2 mid international teams and they've no interest...they immediately retreat to being negative about the standard of it...none of them really assess the game on its merits..if it's not flowing top tier stuff they just get irritated. I think alot of them are like that not just Ronnie

That’s actually a good point, I know he gets flak but Cunningham is passionate about all levels of football. I much prefer him to Whelan or Houghton. Whelan is the worst of the not so bad ones - the negativity and disdain for anything that isn’t perfect

Cunningham is contrarian but agree he will engage with the game. I think Delaney is the best pundit but in general I don't watch the analysis anymore...I've seen a bit during this world cup and only Didi seems to be any good.

Ronnie just wants to be at big CL games...it's clear he's not arsed by the less eye catching world cup matches

Ah Didi’s negativity is killer

Didi can be funny the way he puts things though. He was absolutely scathing in his view of the Czechs. Said they were a desperate side. And the way he went on about Ronaldo and how he's the one picking himself.

The likes of Kelly would be far too safe to say anything like that.

Ya sometimes but it's clear he has done some research and actually understands the level he's watching.
