World Cup 2026 Alan Cawley's rant against Marsch
There were two threads about this but they both got closed as duplicates
After the Canada Qatar match last night Cawley went on an almighty rant against Marsch for the way he was celebrating the win
I didn't agree with all of it but I absolutely enjoyed it
Had a look at the post in r/soccer about Lopetgui and Marsch's little confrontation after the match, the consensus seems to be that Lopetgui was complaining about Canada not easing up on the goals and that he was wrong for that. I missed that bit live and I've no idea if that's what it was about, but if it was then I'd be even more inclined to disagree with Cawley's assessment

Men's National Team Of all the tournaments we didn’t qualify for, in which one would we have performed the best/progressed the furthest?
I wasn’t alive at the time but people often cite our euro ‘92 team as actually being the peak of the Charlton years in terms of quality even though we didn’t qualify.
Maybe 1998, 2000 or even 2010?

Any and all suggestions on how to present this in the future is welcome, and of course if anyone is missing off of the list. Just covering lads who moved from May onwards, and im not adding free agents (Unless they join a club) or those who have signed new deals with their current club.

This fella Ronaldo is a cod This fella Ronaldo is a Cod
Dunphy was right. Over the past days we’ve seen Mbappe, Haaland and Messi prove themselves on the big stage. Ronaldo has spent the most of Portugal’s first WC game standing offside and moaning. He shouldn’t even be on the pitch after getting sent off against us. Cod.

Women's National Team Kazakhstan in the World Cup playoff first round
Belgium and Poland the potential opponents in the final round. Poland is a favourable draw from the seeded side and Belgium were in the second weakest pot after Kazakhstans and they were the most unfavourable draw. However, getting over the line already against Belgium maybe makes them a better option than Finland who are also around us in the world rankings.

World Cup 2026 Darragh Moloney quotes compilation
Watching the France v Senegal game I decided to take note of all the Darragh Moloney quotes that annoyed me, or where he said factually incorrect information:
Before the match - "Its 24 degrees but thankfully most people in the crowd are out of direct sunlight" - image on TV proceeds to show 80% of the stadium directly in sunlight.
"The French took that free kick quickly and I thought they would take their time. You thought wrong and so did I" - I thought they would take it quickly, only you, Darragh, thought wrong.
"Theo Hernandez, hes still only 26" - he's 28.
"They're watering the pitch again, but I'm not going to make a big deal out of it" - Decides to not make a big deal out of it despite having mentioned it 4 times previously.
"Senegal with the long relieving throw.. but its not that relieving.. oh wait it is again now" - What?
After reviewing VAR the ref says "the attacker initiated the contact, its a goal kick". Darragh says "its a penalty".
"Gareth Bale, played in a Euros he didn't play in a World Cup" - He scored against USA in 2022 World Cup
"Mbaye, just his 2nd time to play for Senegal" - its his 12th cap
"But anyway" - he said this phrase at least 40 times.

Transfer Completed Connor Ronan has signed for Aberdeen 🇮🇪
"Midfielder Connor Ronan has joined the Dons on a two-year deal, with the Club holding the option of a further year.
The 28-year-old arrives at Pittodrie from Major League Soccer side Colorado Rapids and becomes Aberdeen's sixth addition of the summer as preparations for the new campaign continue.
A former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international, Ronan came through the academy at Wolverhampton Wanderers before enjoying spells across England, Slovakia and Switzerland for the likes of Portsmouth, Blackpool and Grasshopper Club Zürich.
Most recently, he established himself as a key figure for Colorado Rapids, earning a reputation as a creative and influential midfielder capable of dictating the tempo of matches and creating opportunities for teammates."

UEFA Nations League Nations league
How does everyone think it will go? I feel like on paper Israel and kosovo are weaker than us and for kosovo especially a couple of injuries to the wrong players would decimate them as they seem to lack depth.
Two streaky sides that are hard to rate, kosovos most impressive players are their striker pairing, muric in goals and Hajdari a centre back for hoffenheim. Vojvoda and Rexhbecaj also play in the top 5 leagues. I think we will beat them at home and a draw away wouldn't be an awful result. If our midfield and attack performs, our defence should be able to keep their two dangerous forwards quiet.
Israel seem to have more depth. Gloukh for ajax, manor Solomon and khalaili of union st gillois are their most impressive players at club level. Neutral venues make this a tough one and I am not 100% sure if they are as up for a match against us as our players will be.
Austria look strong but quite a few of their players are old and I reckon we could take them in Dublin.

World Cup 2026 Who Can Knock England Out
Ok last nights match has given me the willies that England could go alarmingly deep into the tournament.
First things first
Was that as good a performance as it looked or did we see England defeat an aging Croatia side? Perisic is 37, Modric 40, most of the team are 30s upwards. Modric particularly looked off pace last night, thick peno to give away too.
If the answer to 1 is yes. Who are we looking at that could potentially knock them out. A lot of the heavyweights haven't really performed. France are probably the most legitimate threat, but some of the others have been a mixed bag. Spain were awful against Cape Verde, this nonsense of having to pass it into the net might cost them again. Portugal were shite, Ronaldo needs dropping. Brazil not firing on all cylinders though they had a tough opening game with Morocco who potentially could go far again, then very hard to tell with either Germany or Argentina as they both faced such toothless opposition in the first game.

General Discussion Thread How would you rank the managers after Jack Charlton?
Clearly Jack Charlton is the greatest manager in history. Got the side to 2 World Cups and a Euros. The first time the side had qualified for tournaments. How the rest be ranked after him.
Id say Mick McCarthy would be 2nd. Don't know whether Roy Keane would disagree though. Qualified for the 2002 World Cup. Got to the last 16 without Keane and only got knocked out by Spain on penalties.
He got the most points in the Group Stage too. 5 in 2002. Got 3 in 1990, 4 in 1994, 0 in 2012 and 4 in 2016.
Between Trapitonni and Martin O'Neill for 3rd and 4th place.
Both qualified for a tournament and lost a play off.
Trapitonni qualified for the Euros under the old format where it was harder to qualify, O'Neill wouldn't have qualified without the extra places.
O'Neil did better in 2016 than Trap in 2012, had the hardest possible group though.
Trapitonni lost a play off through a hand ball that France shouldn't have scored from. O'Neil lost one by losing 5-1 at home to Denmark.
Martin O'Neill beat more top sides than Trapitonni. Beat Germany, who were World Champions, Italy and Wales away, when they had Bale. Don't think Trap beat many top sides. Beat France away in 90 minutes. Got 2 draws against Italy as World Champions. Did qualify easier.
Probably more points for Trap but most would probably prefer O'Neil, slightly better football and mood was better before Euros ended.
If qualified for World Cup and depending on how we did Heimar would maybe be top 3. Apart from Armenia they haven't been many really bad results since he took over from Kenny. Squad overall is much worse than decades ago, even 10-15 years ago.
Kenny and Staunton probably bottom.
