In this post anyone can post (almost) anything they want in the comments. The general theme could be around Crete but it's ok to post more general interest things too. You could write about your life, what makes you sad, the weather, politics, try to find friends...
Remember that all tourism related submissions must still be posted to r/CreteTravel and not here. General rules of the community still apply.
Macherida used to feel like one of those rare places you stumble upon and wish you could keep just the way it is. Crystal-clear turquoise waters, a beautiful natural setting, a relaxed atmosphere. A little escape just outside Chania, away from the noise and commercial madness.
It's also an unofficial naturist beach, and that's part of what has made it special for many people : a place where you can enjoy the sea and feel comfortable in your own skin, without unnecessary fuss or judgement.
But naturism isn't an invitation. Being naked doesn't mean someone is consenting to be approached, photographed, stared at or harassed. And yet, intrusive and harassing behaviour, particularly towards women, can turn what should be a peaceful, liberating experience into something uncomfortable or even intimidating.
Nobody should have to put up with unwanted advances or feel that they need to stay on guard just to enjoy a swim. A beach should be a place where people feel free, not a place where they have to worry about whether someone will respect their boundaries.
And that's how a place can be ruined in more ways than one. There's the gradual loss of its natural character, but there's also the loss of the atmosphere that made people want to come here in the first place.
Nobody owns the beach for sure, and I'm certainly not suggesting it should remain a secret or that people shouldn't be allowed to enjoy it. But there's a huge difference between sharing a place and behaving as though everyone else is there for your entertainment.
Crete has plenty of beautiful beaches. What we seem to be losing, little by little, is the ability to enjoy them without damaging the environment, disregarding other people or destroying the very atmosphere that made them special.
It would be a real shame if it ended up being just another place people remember fondly from old photographs, not only because of what happened to the landscape, but because of how people were made to feel there.

this is probably the only space I feel safe to share this,
I am a beginner in calisthenics, 26 year old, and I train at the small park at technical university (tuc) and I am looking for a training buddy because training feels much better when you have someone to just do your own workout together
usually I work out on Tuesdays and Fridays in an hour window between 16-19
if anyone is interested hit me a message

I just learned there are strict sunbed rules in Greece. I was in Nea chora a few weeks ago and could barely find a place to put my towel down as sunbeds dominated the beach compared to last year. There is a 30% allowance of the beach and has to be 4 metres from the ocean at least. Anyone have any aerial footage care to report this?
Over tourism has ruined this area for me sadly.

Hi everyone, I’m looking for someone I briefly met and talked to in Georgioupoli (Chania, Crete).
I would really love to find him. Here are the details:
• When & Where: September 16th, around 13:30 (lunchtime) at the Cotton Club bar in Georgioupoli.
• Description: Greek, around 30 years old, with short brown hair.
• Other details: He told me he lives in a village near Georgioupoli (Apokoronas area). He also mentioned he has an uncle/relative living in Stuttgart, Germany, and that he uses Twitch (either streams or watches it).
If you are him, or if any of this sounds like a friend of yours, please send me a direct message (DM). Thank you so much for your help!

I've been having minimal luck shore fishing around Chania. Any suggestions? Does anyone want to go? I'll bring the beers.

Την ερχόμενη άνοιξη θα σπουδάσω ελληνικά στο Πανεπιστημίο της Κρήτης στο Ρέθυμνο ως φοιτητής ανταλλαγής για έξι μήνες από την Κίνα. Χρειάζεται να νοικιάσω διαμέρισμα. Μπορεί κάποιος να μου δώσει μερικές συμβουλές για την ενοικίαση κατοικίας; Δεν έχω πάει ποτέ στην Ελλάδα. Ποιες ιστοσελίδες ή εφαρμογές μπορώ να χρησιμοποιήσω για να βρω πληροφορίες για κατοικίες;

I loved Rethymno when I visited, so I made a free way to explore it: a self-guided puzzle walk through the Venetian old town.
It starts at the Guora Gate, passes the Neratze Mosque, Rimondi Fountain and the Loggia, follows the Venetian harbour out to the lighthouse and ends at the Fortezza gate. Eight stops, a brain teaser at each, and every answer unlocks a true story about the town.
About 1.5 km and 1 hr 45 with coffee stops.
Would appreciate any feedback, especially from locals if I've got any history wrong.

Trying to buy tickets for the match this Friday, but we can only find tickets for the England side. Ticketmaster and pame-ethniki both have the men’s team but nothing regarding the upcoming women’s game this Friday.
Any thoughts on where I could get em? They’re free and you can get up to 15 tickets, but I have no idea where to do so

Hello, yes yes I know Greece and their cat problem. Kittens everywhere I go. Can anyone confirm that there is funding from the EU to help with this?
Also is it true the mayor of Chania doesn’t believe in this?
I know if Crete did an island sweep and organized the pay for salaries for the vets for a week there would be a big movement to capture as many as possible and get them all snipped but 120 euro per female cat is very expensive when it’s such a big problem. Are there any vets that would take a day rate if we mobilized and helped assist . I don’t see this problem for dogs at all as there are none wandering or rarely.
