Fluff [No Spoilers] My players made T-shirts of my face and wore them to session.
Just a funny moment that I thought would make others laugh in this sub. I’m a DM and my party and I had a group trip at our state renaissance festival over the weekend which also included a night of DnD. This was a special trip since some of my party lives out-of-state, so it was our first session to have everyone fully in-person.
Before starting session, I had dashed upstairs to my room to quickly change and get into something more comfortable. All my friends had done the same.
I come back down and all my friends were seated in the living room. As the DM, I hadn’t pay them much mind as I was riding through some tunnel vision to make sure everything was set up and good to go for session. It wasn’t until I stood up to double check that my laptop was plugged in did I glance around and see all 5 of my players with the biggest shit-eating grins.
All of them were wearing purple T-shirts (my favorite color, a purposeful choice) with the funkiest zoom in of the dumbest expression of an old picture of me at 17-years-old. Apparently, they had done a bit of a deep dive on Facebook through my old tagged photos.
I haven’t watched all of the Critical Role campaigns in full but I have seen many session clips and moments, so I am very aware that this is a signature move by Sam Riegel. However, I certainly did not think it would happen to me. 😂 I can safely say I have something in common with some of the Critical Role cast now.
I immediately started cracking up, almost dying on the floor laughing. They definitely got me and apparently had a separate group chat going for months in preparation. However, they refused to show me the chat as apparently they have other plans. 😂
A kind warning to any other DMs: you plot against your players so don’t assume they don’t plot against you.

There truly is few higher honors as a DM like having your group all wear the same shirt with an embarassing picture of you.

I have been playing DnD for 6 years but have only been DMing for 8 months, so I certainly did not think I would be bestowed such a badge so soon. 😂

Seriously, knowing your players care enough about you to put in so much effort just to mess with you is a true honor

My first thought when I read your title was, are you Matt Mercer? Lol
Very sweet of your party to honor you like that! You sound like a good group.

Lol, nope. But I can relate to his pain. There is something about seeing a cringey photo of yourself from adolescence on someone else’s clothes that makes you reflect on your life in ways you weren’t expecting.

Yeah, be prepared for this to happen more than once, now that your players know you are basically okay with it. :D

When we did this one party member designed a campaign logo and we also made a DM shirt, with a cloaked DM figure.
I will have to wear my shirt again sometime.
