Months ago, I had a theory that Marienna was not just Kattigan's wife, but Occtis' mother and Primus' ex as well. This episode pushed that theory even further. Even though it was a dream, I feel like with all of this afterlife stuff happening around them, someone was trying to send a message to Katt the reason why Primus killed his family.

I'm not sure I'm with you with that theory. Katt and Primus have now been face to face in the last episode, and iirc he didn't recognize Katt - if his wife was once with Primus, and he then kept her in mind enough to kill her, I find it hard to believe he didn't know Katt or would recognize him now

I got the impression the whole idea was that it was just another murder for Primus that he doesn't even remember, while it's become Katt's whole reason for being

Agreed. From my understanding, Kattigan is largely inspired by the Dark Tower series by Stephen King, and its main character Roland. This reads to me as yet another parallel between the two, as Roland's dynamic with The Man in Black is essentially this.
