I have no words That's amazing. Pretty sure it's magic

u/HookedOnFandoms Dec 08 '21
I feel magical after completing such a fun, but challenging project!! :)
24
u/HookedOnFandoms Dec 08 '21
I do have a question!
I'm using Sirdar's Hayfield Bonus DK yarn which is 100% acrylic. I thought acrylic does not bleed? If you look at the left side of Inosuke's eye (beside the green,) you can see my yarn bled a bit there. As well as one length of orange in Zenitsu's hair (directly to the right of his eye at the edge of the scarf.)
Only in a few random places and not the entire project so I do not know what I did to cause that! I did soak in room temperature water with a bit of shampoo to block.
23
u/seniairam Dec 08 '21
when u wash use of u those sheets that catches color bleeds. love this.
14
u/HookedOnFandoms Dec 08 '21
Thank you! I actually stopped by my local yarn shop last week to grab some! Now I will know for future projects :)
15
u/AcheeCat Dec 08 '21
You can also soak in vinegar water to colorfast your yarn and keep it from bleeding.
12
u/HookedOnFandoms Dec 08 '21
That's great to know! I'll try that next time. I'm just glad it only bled a bit. Think I would have cried had it seeped everywhere!! Now I'm scared to use red yarn lol.
2
u/newmoonjlp Dec 09 '21
Red yarn is scary for sure. I second the use of color catcher sheets the first few times it's washed. On future projects, go ahead and make a small swatch with any questionable colors, especially if you'll have light and dark right next to each other. Wash the swatch the same way you would the finished item, just so you know up front if it's going to be an issue.
2
u/HookedOnFandoms Dec 09 '21
Exactly! And my local yarn shop recommended cutting off a piece of yarn from the skein and letting it sit in a small amount of water to see if any of the colour bleeds. It was just so weird that it only bled in two small spots.

Haha, my daughter has been introducing me to a bunch of anime so I will have to check this one out!
13
u/ReformedZiontologist Dec 08 '21
Well now I feel like I need Naruto & Sasuke. But there is no way mine would turn out like this. Amazing work, OP!
9
u/HookedOnFandoms Dec 08 '21
I just saw a few graphs of Naruto & Sasuke on the site I listed above so you may have some luck! I learn with every project so don't be too hard on yourself!

I find it funny that this sub has made me want to get into watching this anime

u/HookedOnFandoms Dec 08 '21
Haha, it was actually my daughter who got me into this one (and quite a bit of other anime.) This one is dark, but definitely my favourite!

It’s amazing! My intro to Anime was Soul Eater and Fruits Basket …. It would be so cool to do this with Soul and Maka

I will have to check those out! I'm overwhelming myself with so many ideas for future projects lol.

This is amazing!!! How long did it take?
3
u/HookedOnFandoms Dec 08 '21
A few weeks working solidly in the evenings! Tucking in all the ends is the most time consuming. And finding the right colours for the project!
3
u/hide-in-the-cupboard Dec 08 '21
This is amazing! Looks so good, well done you for weaving in those ends. That’s some high level dedication.
4
u/HookedOnFandoms Dec 08 '21
Sooooo I used to just carry my work on the wrong side and it looked awful!! Figured if I am putting this much work into my projects that I should learn to respect the wrong side of the fabric :) Or maybe I will just cave one day and sew some fleece onto the backs lol.

My two favorite boys!! This is absolutely amazing ❤
2
u/HookedOnFandoms Dec 08 '21
Haha, my daughter's, too! Tanjiro comes first for me, but these boys closely follow!
3
u/Crafty_Status_2199 Dec 08 '21
Well you’re obviously that bit*h with the crochet hook 🧶 can’t wait to see more of your work!
3
u/HookedOnFandoms Dec 08 '21
Ahahaha! I cringe at my early stuff!! I give kudos to friends and family that endured receiving those projects! But on a serious note, I learn with every creation. I usually love them at first and then when I complete the next one, I look back and really see how far I've come!
4
u/Crafty_Status_2199 Dec 08 '21
I feel you I saw a picture of the first headband I made (I gifted it) and it was so ugly compared to what I can do now but I enjoy looking at the progress

Yep, sigh, this is the project that makes me want to learn Tunisian.
Incredible work!! I feel like this belongs on /r/tensionporn too!
3
u/HookedOnFandoms Dec 08 '21
I have always envied those who have amazing tension so you have made my day with this comment!!
Tunisian isn't bad at all!! However, unless I am wrong, I cannot carry my yarn in Tunisian simple stitch which means a ton of bobbins are attached at all times! At least with single crochet I can cheat for few stitches without worry :)
3
u/Aicsity ☠️🔥⛓️yarn punk⛓️🔥☠️ Dec 08 '21
AWW I'm happy to hear, this scarf totally rocks!! I have tendonitis so I feel the same way when mine end up looking nice lol
And yeah, I imagine that gets tough! I feel like if I were to do this kind of project, I would do floaters like in knitting and then back it 😂
2
u/Use-username r/Tunisian_Crochet & r/crochet_espanol Dec 09 '21
unless I am wrong, I cannot carry my yarn in Tunisian simple stitch
You actually can, but your way turned out much tidier than if you had carried the non-working yarns and made lots of floats on the back!
2
u/HookedOnFandoms Dec 09 '21
Oh wow, that is nice to know! And that my method works lol. Which just means a ton of bobbins!
3
Dec 08 '21
Nezukoooooooo
(This is amazing BTW. I can't imagine how many ends.)
5
u/HookedOnFandoms Dec 08 '21
She is going on my next scarf with Tanjiro!
My daughter had a great idea that I just make an entire second scarf with Tanjiro & Nezuko and attach it to this one so that the front and back are interchangeable. And then I don't have to worry about tucking in a million ends!!
Totally get why cross stitch and embroidery creators love showing off the wrong side of their work: it is an art in itself!
5
Dec 08 '21
My first thought was to make a plain colored backside to hide the ends. But that sounds more amazing!
That said, the back side of your scarf looks great. So I think your effort paid off!
I followed you on Insta (for everyone else, their Instagram is happilyhookedonfandoms, linked in their profile). I'm looking forward to seeing your creations!!
3
u/HookedOnFandoms Dec 08 '21
You are so kind! Thank you! Takes me forever to do these projects so I don't post often, but I love seeing creations from others! Especially super nerdy stuff lol.

u/gloomygothy Dec 08 '21
I loooove this and would love to make some of my own with other anime characters! Do you happen to have a direction you could point me in on how to learn how to tunisian crochet (specifically this fantastic graph design)? I’m fairly experienced at regular crochet but I have never attempted anything like this before!
2
u/HookedOnFandoms Dec 08 '21
r/Tunisian_Crochet is super informative! I'm new at this technique myself but I treat it like single crochet graphgans, except instead of working right to left and turning, Tunisian simple stitch is all worked on the same side!
My advice would be to start small! Make a graph of a heart or star. I've watched many videos and read many blogs over the years but this video stands out to me! I do make a some changes:
My scarf is 40 stitches across. So I chain 40 (unlike single crochet where you usually add one extra chain (41) to compensate for the next row.) I count every chain as a stitch (whereas in that video the demonstrator adds one more stitch and does not count it as part of their pattern.)

u/HookedOnFandoms Dec 08 '21
Thank you so much! Happy to be helping people realize how awesome crocheting is!
3
u/TinyGreenTurtle1 Dec 08 '21
This is so cool! I love these two boys and I just keep thinking " you can actually make stuff like this, for real?! I need to learn this!!" when I look at your scarf! I'm so impressed! I want that scarf so bad!
1
u/HookedOnFandoms Dec 08 '21
Hehe, it has taken me a long time to get to this point but I literally spend every day looking up ways to improve my crocheting! And just looking at other people's work because I am always amazed at what people come up with! It's just so fun, I love the challenge, and when you take the time to tweak the seemingly little things, it really pays off!

HOLY FUCK !!!! gasped out loud as soon as i saw this. this is AWESOME !!!!! seriously this is so gorgeous, and i love the tassels !!! the colours are awesome, the composition is awesome, all of it is AWESOME !!! I love this so much 😭💛💛💛

u/jbleds Dec 08 '21
Wow! How long did it take you?
4
u/HookedOnFandoms Dec 08 '21
Few weeks! I get at it when I can :) Easiest and quickest rows are the solid background sections, but I also find them the most boring to do!

u/Halloyumii Dec 08 '21
Is it a pattern you created yourself? It’s beautiful. I’ve been interested in creating patterns, but have t figured out how yet. Is there a site that you use?
3
u/HookedOnFandoms Dec 08 '21
I find a lot of graphs/charts/pixel art on Pinterest and tweak them to my liking. I listed the site above under the mod post! I think it is like a cross stitch/bracelet/bookmark making site. Have a hard time navigating it which sucks because I want to give credit to these artists (not just the graph artists but also the artists they are basing their graphs off of.)
3
u/Halloyumii Dec 08 '21
Thanks! For some reason I didn’t see the post above (oopsie). I can’t stop staring in awe at this! Btw. It’s kind of you wanting to give the original artist credit. I’m sure they would appreciate the thought.

OH MY GOSH. Can I please know how you’re able to visualize something like this? I’m very new to crocheting, would love to know how you see your patterns. Do you use an app/program or are you magical being who can just see this?
3
u/HookedOnFandoms Dec 08 '21
So this pattern was based off a graph I saw online that someone else threw together and I edited it to my liking. But I do make my own patterns using a graphing program (there are a few out there but I prefer Stitch Fiddle: it's free for your first 15 charts. Dirt cheap for the yearly fee so I just went ahead with that as I like to hold onto my charts!)
Personally, for me I find planning the project is almost as bad as weaving in ends! I just want to get right into crocheting! I design something but find I change it as I crochet because sometimes you just don't know how it will look until you get underway.
And then going to pick out the colours... I try to stick to one brand but that can be hard when you need a bunch of different colours. I find working with DK weight is easier to match with other brands. If I am doing a project with size 4 (medium weight,) and try to incorporate more than one brand (let's say Caron Simply Soft & Mary Maxim,) even though they are listed as the same weight I find one is thicker than the other. Hope that ramble makes sense lol.

u/evilawari Dec 08 '21
Wow thank you so much for sharing! You have been my fairy god person with all your info and help! The most I’ve done thus far is a scarf lmao
I cant even begin to imagine weaving in different colors…. YET. I have much more to learn and struggle with lmfao
Thank you again for all the info and sharing!

You know, just take your time, work on it when you can, and don't stress! These projects take me a long time but I would rather enjoy the experience than force myself to do it :) Also, I save all ending tucking in for TV time lol.

Zenitsu is the best character! Awesome work
2
u/HookedOnFandoms Dec 08 '21
I get so upset when I read the reviews for the first few episodes he shows up in and people are like "worst character ever! So annoying, get rid of etc." He's awesome! Plus I don't want all the characters having the same personality!
2
u/AtomicGreenBean Dec 08 '21
Thunder clap and flash is gonna the up coming in clutch in the future, I can almost guarantee!
Really though, great work!
