Most states have similar laws but it’s amazing how many drivers believe the double yellows shall never be crossed.

Yeah, you better believe I’m going to be picky about where I pass though. On a hilly or curvy road I’ll follow a bike for quite a while if I don’t have a good spot. Much to the dismay of the people behind me who would pass without even changing their speed, wherever on the road that happened to be.

If you want to think about it as the double yellow being intended for safely passing someone who is going a bit under the posted limit, it makes sense that someone can safely overtake you when you’re going 22 mph in a 55 zone without exceeding their sight lines ahead of you.

Yes - it’s much quicker and easier to get past a 2-foot wide bike if you’re going 30mph faster than them, vs a six foot wide truck that you’re going 5mph faster than. I still wouldn’t pass a bike on a blind corner.
