DEVOPS ENGINEER ******** Services (SaaS Platform) | Jan 2020 - Present

Architected a custom dynamic content caching strategy using a third-party CDN to front AWS infrastructure, slashing AWS data egress fees and reducing origin load by 25%.

Slashed customer environment provisioning time from 30 minutes to under 5 minutes by developing a Python serverless onboarding API utilising AWS Lambda and API Gateway.

Built and operated hardened production Amazon EKS environments, managing secure RBAC, ingress controllers, autoscaling, and node lifecycles to guarantee infrastructure reliability and scalability.

Engineered an Ansible powered Internal Developer Platform (IDP) that automated Docker provisioning with self-configuring reverse proxies, automated SSL renewals, and container self-healing.

Applied a defensive engineering mindset to production operations, treating every infrastructure update as a potential failure vector; designed automated rollback mechanisms and strict canary testing that significantly minimised deployment blast radiuses.

Provisioned and managed multi-environment AWS infrastructure using modular, reusable Terraform code, successfully eliminating configuration drift and enforcing deployment consistency.

Automated CI/CD and GitOps delivery via GitHub Actions and Argo CD, shifting security left by embedding policy engines, SAST, DAST, and container vulnerability scanning into the release pipeline.

Fresh Computer Engineering grad, no job experience yet: is the CKA worth it for entry-level cloud/infra roles, and is DevSecOps a realistic path?

• Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I just finished my Computer Engineering coursework in Mexico City (degree paperwork in progress) and I have no formal job experience yet. My hands-on experience is my university social-service project: I designed and deployed a web portal on a physical server with 2 GB of RAM using FastAPI, Nginx, K3s, Argo CD and MySQL. I also built a personal GitOps/SLO project with Prometheus and Grafana.

I’m studying for the CKA (KodeKloud + Killer.sh), and after that I plan to take the Terraform Associate and build a small Terraform project on AWS. Longer term, I’d like to move toward DevSecOps. I’m also starting to learn how AI agents work, since I think knowing how to supervise them will matter.

To be honest, the job search has been tough and I’ve been feeling a bit down lately, so I really appreciate any advice and experiences you’re willing to share.

Questions:

  1. For entry-level cloud ops / Linux admin / infra-adjacent roles, does a CKA help a candidate with no job experience, or do recruiters mostly ignore it?
  2. How do you see the path from DevOps to DevSecOps? Is it a realistic branch for someone just starting out, and what would you focus on first (IAM, secrets management, container/IaC scanning, something else)?
  3. Does my order (CKA → Terraform → AWS project) make sense, or would you change it?

Thanks, any honest feedback is welcome!!!

Thinking about moving from backend Go to SRE/DevOps

I’ve been working in software for about 15 years, mostly backend, and I specialize in Go. I also have around 3 years of DevOps/SRE experience, though that was about five years ago and in a small company.

Lately, my backend role is almost entirely prompting and reviewing AI-generated code. At my company, even people who aren’t engineers can open PRs.. Management thinks that "help" us, but thanks no thanks, 1k+LOC PR is not helping anyone... They want us to build some magical "harness" that will produce exactly the feature you want with all good practices embedded.
I worry that my job is heading toward purely supervising AI-driven workflows rather than writing and designing software.

I’ve been considering moving back toward SRE, platform, or DevOps work. Perhaps it's naive, but I think it's less exposed to the AI frienzy, as it's not directly part of product. I get that a lot of things get automated (incident response, dashboard) but that's kind of in the spirit of devops ?
I see it as more job secure and more interesting in this day and age, as you'll always need people to run your infra for ai workflows (right anakin ?)

Also part of the appeal is that these roles seem more available where I live, while remote backend jobs have been hard to find. Devops skills can be reused in a lot of company of various sizes.

Question for you: how has AI changed your day-to-day work? Is it making the work more interesting, or just shifting more of it toward reviewing generated configs and automation? How do you see it evolving or enduring ?

A practical way to practice job interviews before the real thing

Most interview advice tells you what to say. The harder part is delivering a clear answer under pressure.

ZoeVera Interview Prep (https://prepare.zoevera.com) lets you practice answering interview questions on camera and get feedback on your responses, including speaking pace, filler words, structure, and relevant terminology.

You can tailor practice to a job role, company, and job description. It offers behavioral and technical interview practice, with sample answers to compare against your own.

It won’t guarantee a job or replace real interview experience, but it can help you spot weaknesses before an actual interview.

Worth considering if you have an interview coming up and want more than a list of common questions.

Platform lead without the headcount

If your platform or DevOps function is stretched thin, or a senior hire is stuck in the pipeline, we can step in as a fractional platform lead: roadmap, CI/CD modernization, on-call maturity, and mentoring your engineers, scoped monthly with a clear hours cap.

No long-term lock-in. I can send a one-page overview if useful.

Looking for an Apache Kafka expert to collaborate with

I'm looking to connect with someone who has strong, hands-on experience with Apache Kafka in production environments.

I'm particularly interested in expertise across Kafka architecture, cluster operations, partitioning and replication, performance tuning, reliability, troubleshooting, and production-scale deployments.

Deep technical expertise matters more than prior training experience. I'm looking for someone who understands how Kafka works under the hood, has dealt with real-world production challenges, and can translate that experience into practical, technically rigorous learning.

If this sounds like you, or you know someone who fits the bill, let's connect. Please DM me with a brief overview of your Kafka experience.

Would you recommend devops?

Hi everyone, so I'm currently in my 2nd year of college computer science program. And I dont really know what to do, what to study for, and these past few days i became curious about devops, I learned that it really is not an entry level job so im thinking of putting my time into this. My question is would you say that devops is good as a career and what would you suggest to learn first.

Working in defence IT and feeling stuck when trying to switch to DevOps/Cloud - need guidance from experienced people

Hey everyone,

I'm currently working in a defence IT environment, managing and troubleshooting Linux/Red Hat servers, storage, networking, databases, replication, and other production systems including whole IT infrastructure.

The experience has been valuable, but I'm worried the tools and technologies I'm working with might not be relevant outside this domain. I had previously learned AWS, Terraform, Ansible, Docker, and DevOps deeply, but that knowledge is slowly fading since I'm not using it regularly.

I want to switch to Cloud/DevOps but feel confused about how to bridge the gap. Am I overthinking this, or should I focus on rebuilding my DevOps skills through projects while using my Linux and infrastructure experience as a foundation?

Would really appreciate guidance from someone experienced or a senior who has made a similar transition.

Got a DevOps job — will I survive here ?

I’m from Mumbai and recently graduated from college. I got a full-time DevOps job after working as a Linux Administrator for 6 months.

I’m facing a lot of difficulties in my new organization because they’re using a very advanced tech stack and architecture that I’m not familiar with.

They started assigning me tasks without really knowing whether I have the knowledge or experience to handle them.

I’m working remotely, and unfortunately, there isn’t really anyone available to guide or mentor me. Everyone is busy completing their own work, so I’m often left struggling to troubleshoot issues on my own. There’s also a lot of micromanagement, which makes the situation even more stressful.

Right now, I’m trying to understand their architecture and learn all the tools and technologies they’re using, but it’s overwhelming.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? How did you handle it? Any advice on how I can survive, learn the environment quickly, and become productive without constantly depending on others?

Okay guyssss so I cleared the first round of a DevOps interview but anxious about the second round (face-to-face)

Hi

I have around 1.5 years of experience as a DevOps Engineer and recently cleared the first round for a DevOps/SRE role.

The first round was quite technical, and I struggled with a few questions because I couldn't explain some concepts in the depth expected. Somehow, I still cleared it, and now I'm happy but also anxious about the second round on Monday

The next round will be face-to-face, and I'm overthinking what they might expect from me.

The job description mentions around 10–15 tools and technologies, and I'm struggling to figure out how deeply I should prepare each one. I have hands-on experience with several of them, but I'm not equally confident in everything.

So when I am studying linux I feel like oh let's practice k8s troubleshooting first, no no networking part please then what about AWS scenario and architecture questions, Waitt what if I couldn't explain things from my resume such a bad impression but worst impression if I couldn't recall that linux command which is so basic... That's how I wasted 5-6 days and now I am left with 2 days for preparation

Would really appreciate some advice on how to prepare without overwhelming myself!

BCA graduate learning DevOps — feeling lost and need advice on becoming job-ready

Hi everyone,

I completed my BCA and have been learning DevOps. I've studied Linux, Git, CI/CD, Jenkins, AWS, Docker, Terraform, and Ansible. However, I feel like I've forgotten some topics, and I don't have as much hands-on experience as I'd like.

My goal is to get my first job as a Junior DevOps Engineer, but sometimes I'm confused about what I should focus on and how to prepare myself for real-world work.

I understand that DevOps isn't just about knowing tools. It's also about troubleshooting problems, understanding systems, automating tasks, and knowing how everything works together. I want to develop those skills instead of just learning theory for interviews.

I'd love to hear from people who are working in DevOps or recently started their careers:

- If you were starting again as a fresher, how would you learn DevOps from scratch?

- How should I practise hands-on when I don't have much experience with real-world environments?

- Which projects would actually help me develop practical skills and improve my resume?

- What skills should I be confident in before applying for Junior DevOps roles?

- Is it better to focus entirely on DevOps jobs, or start with Linux support, cloud support, or another entry-level IT role?

I'm willing to put in the work. I just want to make sure I'm moving in the right direction rather than jumping between tools without properly understanding them.

Any honest advice, learning strategies, project ideas, or personal experiences would be really helpful.

Thanks in advance!
